Whats allowed for multiboxing if Dev. could please answer/shed light on

I know multiboxing in it's self isn't illegal as long as it doesn't use 3rd party programs. My Wife and I play FFXIV together I play on PS3 she plays on 1 PS3 and 1 PC accounts but sometimes we'd like to do low lvl dungeons together and she likes to multibox and multi-task, basically she has 1 PS3 account and 1 PC account and she'd like to get a 3rd account all on separate SE accounts so her setup is 1 PS3 1 PC, if a Dev/Mod could clarify it'd be, 1 PS3 2 PC's and there's been other's asking the same thing, She has done this on other MMO's FFXI included, most people think of it as "Grey area". she uses the /follow and /ac "Skill/Spell" <tt> macro. She don't want to bust her rear end on her characters just for SE to change ToS so multiboxing isn't allowed.

I think it's a form of cheating that facilitates botting and/or abusing rewards for events and other things (get 4 of one thing while others only get 1, because they don't have 4 chars at once). Including just plain farming.

How is it getting 4 things at once? your still having to gear up each character just as anyone else thats playing solo, and I have yet to see everyone in our parties to get an item per kill, Hell her characters are considered gimped gear wise.

She'll be fine. As long as she isn't using some kind of program to automate her characters without her input, then her multiboxing is safe.

you don't need a dev/mod to tell you, multi boxing is not against the ToS -.-

How about multi-boxing for crafting? Macro your craft and press on #1, press on #2, press on #3, press on #4...make 4x the profit in 1x the time...

That kind of abuse.

In Atlantica Online, people openly abused special instances called individual dungeons (from 1 to 3 players allowed). They need a key and stay open for a set duration, under which they have to be completed to get the bonus reward. Everyone in the instance gets the bonus reward. You go solo, you get 1, you go with 3 total, each gets 1. And those instances didn't level sync you, so you could overgear most of them, by far - and thus solo them. Then bring your 2 multibox, and get triple reward. Thus making the honest solo-boxer get 1/3 of the reward.

How did it affect the solo-boxer? Well, the best rewards were sellable (new mercenaries sometimes), for billions. So it gave a much higher supply, reduced the price faster and also caused inflation vs that player because every multiboxer would make more money/time.

Legal, perhaps. Cheating, definitely.

For dungeons, well there's tomes. She gets 300 philosophy tomes per run, you and I get 100 tomes. How is that fair?

When you do a forum search you'll see a lot of people asking the same thing, and it looks like it was asked in the french and Spanish forums as well, that's the reason for the clarification request, here's the search results, http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/s...rchid=14318668 if it was cut and clear there wouldn't be this many questions about it, it's better to be safe than sorry.

So next you'll tell me someone who plays for 24 hrs straight is cheating because that's an obvious advantage over others who can just play a few hours here and there. Just because someone can do something you cannot does not mean its cheating.

Nah, its not. If you can manage to not sleep and not eat and stay alive. Go for broke.

It's when you play 4 accounts for 6 hours each and accomplish the work of 24 hours, while me who plays 6 hours can't do that. Unless I also cheat.

no...... it is pretty much the same as if someone had 3-4 characters, except they are paying a lot more and playing them at the same time. That is not cheating, in fact they are working just as hard, if not harder to earn all that for all 4 characters being multiboxed.

Multiboxing is not cheating, and it is not against the ToS, although I do find it a bit much and dont care to do it myself. I know a friend at work who has 16 EQII accounts, and multiboxes some of them all the time.


my god are people getting this picking and whinny that they have to call people who play more then one account at the same time cheaters? Really!

Good thing you're not in charge of an MMO then, right?

Multiboxing is part of every MMO ever to come out. As long as you're not using 3rd party software to control characters, or bypass restrictions you're fine. You might need multiple computers to multibox, if the client only allows one instance to run at a time.

So them paying a lot more gives them the right to produce much more / time. Play a lot more. Buy your coil runs using gil. But multiple box is mostly used by people who bot and/or farm to sell to gold sellers. A very small portion is used by people who designed functional simultaneous control using one keyboard (and not 4 and using /follow) and solely for bragging rights. Yet the bots and hackers also copy that technique.

In Dungeon Fighter, I would see 4 guys of the same class and subclass, with very similar names. All enter a dungeon at the same time. I hear they can clear dungeons without even using items (stuff dies by hacks). Then they sell the profit from those runs to gold sellers, and gold sellers sell it to the players. Then the economy has incredibly high prices, pushing regular players to also buy gold. And the circle goes round and round.

You need to get over this 'cheating' thing its not.

Now lets look at better vs. worse players, is a player who is better and can do something faster than you cheating as well? I mean if it takes you 40 minutes to do something that I can do in 20 that's an advantage over you as well is it not? If this is a dungeon I can get 2x the loot you can, if its sellable I can make 2x the money you can so therefore I have to be doing something 'wrong' right? How long does it take to make a stack of thread? Why not cut it in 1/2 or even more if you can?

In your example above with 4x crafting you seem to forget it costs 4x the amount to do this. Maintaining 4 characters simultaneously is a lot more work than a single character (Crafting Gear x4 isn't cheaper than x1). Just because you multibox does not mean free stuff falls from the sky.

There are lots of reasons to multibox from saving time to increased challenge. When the entire game is scripted some players find a lack of challenge just tanking, healing or dpsing. Now Tanking and Healing at the same time takes some extra work, some extra paying attention and adds a challenge where one is missing but somehow this is probably 'cheating' to you as well.

Being able to heal myself is not a crime. Being able to take a stack of ore split it across 4 characters and collapse it faster is not 'cheating', if you prefer to do it the long way there is nothing wrong with that.

normally I'm the crafter so that's a non-issue,
as far as the tomes that would still be 100 per character (that she'd use for them) NOT 300 per character, some people don't realize if your a multiboxer that REALLY plays the game your at a disadvantage since it takes longer to get gear, the ones that's botting don't care about gearing up

This is not cheating. Multiboxing is not against the Terms of Service. If SE did not want a single person to own multiple accounts they simply would have locked each email or credit card to a single account rather than allow users to pay for multiple accounts under one credit card.

So long as the player is not playing the game in an unattended manner then there are no rules being broken. Being able to craft 4 items on 4 accounts is not abusive. Neither would receiving 100 myth tomes per character be unfair.You say it is unfair as if she could get 300 tomes of philosophy and pool them to one character to buy loot. At best she can spend them on two star philo mats and sell them for 50K a piece. Who the hell cares? And at what cost? Super slow AK/WP runs?

In any case, the guy is asking if it's okay for her wife to multibox so that they can 2 man (four box) lower level dungeons, like brayfloxes longstrop, since many of these are very slow to queue in duty finder and hardly anyone runs them. He isn't trying to figure out a way to exploit philo tomes as you imply.

How are they getting 300 tomes, they are getting 100 tomes x3. You cant buy a ring with 4 characters in a single run of AK? You seem to think magically these characters merge when done, they do not, they are still X seperate characters. I cannot get 900 myth in a week with 3 characters and get +1 relic, you cannot trade or move the tomes around.

You're confusing game hacks and botting with manual multiboxing. Just because you saw a group of characters multiboxed and hacking doesn't mean that multiboxing automatically means hacking. It doesn't.

Now your confusing RMT with multiboxing, not all multiboxers are RMT and not all RMT multibox.

Also you seem confused about the impact RMT has on the economy, they don't sell items for ungodly prices, they don't want to wait for items to sell and risk more time where they can be caught and have items removed and characters banned. If anything they drive prices way down making them more affordable for all and killing profit margins for legitimate players.

On the server were playing on now were only like lvl 7-8 so the whole BS of us buying/selling Coil runs is just that BS... geez (even when we do reach that lvl we wouldn't)
so to break it down she can have a total of 3 master accounts I have 1 and she can play on her PS3 and 2 PC's using controllers (Gamepads for the paranoid) for the PC's and PS3 and use macros to keep her characters in a group as long as its not using 3rd party programs to automate movement/actions, it would still be nice for a Dev/Mod to shed some light on this, but we understand that they are busy.

Doesn't seem to be anything against the rules about multiboxing. You can just alt tab between the instances loaded. However there is a strict rule for any 3rd party programs, not a 100% sure how they feel about things like KeyClone being used to send one command to multiple instances. I know Blizzard was fine with it as long as one action was one keypress, but they disabled using multiple actions in a macro. Its different here, so I'm not sure SE will allow that program or those like it. Its always best to get a dev response on programs like KeyClone before using them. I doubt they'll allow it here because of the macro system in FFXIV is a little more complex than most other games.

Don't worry about others saying boxing is illegal or cheating. They are either ignorant or jealous.

I use to multi box ffxi. I did it cause it was huge fun not for an advantage.

Sure, if you are multiboxing by doing each action yourself, without third party program assistance, you are fine.

However, every person i've seen multiboxing in ffxiv has been using third party software, it's blatantly obvious and when asked about it i was directed to pwnboxer, ISBoxer,Hotkeynet, and other multiboxing programs.

I myself wanted to try multiboxing out to get ahead of the game( if you say you arent ahead by multiboxing you are kidding yourself) but haven't liked a mmo i've played THAT much to pay for 3-4 accounts.

Personally, I dont see it as cheating even with third party software as they are paying the cost to be the boss, for THEIR own accounts(RMT sells what they bot, which imo is another story).

My point here is the basis of this question and discussion is fake from the beginning by assuming multiboxers arent using those programs, when we know they are.

Multiboxing programs aren't botting programs. They don't automate anything. They simply link all the clients up to the same input from your keyboard, so that if you press W to move forward, that input goes to all 2 or 3 or however many XIV clients you have open instead of just the one. The player is still manually controlling everything.

I've never heard anyone refer to multi-boxing as cheating before now. "Now I've seen everything," as they say.

I have. All the time in every MMO I've ever played (starting with EQ). And they always state their opinion like it's an irrefutable fact and then sulk or throw a tantrum when people don't automatically agree with them. People like that inspired my sig.

Multi-boxing is cheating now? Heh, kids these days.

This topic comes up every once and a while, and unfortunately, I highly doubt there will ever be any clarification or an official statement. A search of "multiboxing" on the forums date back to 2011.

I don't care to be a broken record track and repeat here what I said before.

Instead, I'll just touch up on the subject matter. I multibox on FFXIV, and I have nothing to hide. It's discriminatory to think that all multiboxers are involved in illegal/prohibited activity. And it's blind speculation to assume what multiboxers do with the game.

I don't represent nor speak for any multiboxer out there, but it's unfair to judge based on assumptions and speculations. I understand that people will have bad experiences that will lead to opinions, but the individual does not represent the whole. Everyone is their own individual, and it should go without saying: everybody's purpose and play-style will differ (multiboxer or not). It's unjustified to just lump people together.

Speaking for myself, I disagree with the sentiment that multiboxers are all doing the same thing. I don't multibox to make gil. I wouldn't pay for gear runs; I just don't see the logic in paying for something that may or may not drop. I personally don't hold any value for gil because I feel the best gear is the non-sellable, plain and simple.

In my experiences, I won't say multiboxing is a magic ticket. It's misleading to say that multiboxing puts you on easy street. It takes a lot of time and effort to find a groove. It is and always will be work. You are required to do more to reap any benefits. You don't just pull it out of the hat. It's absolutely not possible to do things at a 1x pace. No matter what, more characters demand more work and maintenance. You can't avoid the snag. You also have to have the dedication and motivation to even do anything at all. The willpower has to be there or you won't do it.

I can only wish I could always do things at the same time, but it's really not that simple. With the movement mechanics, higher level dungeons are pretty much impossible. I tip my hat to the multiboxer that can do them, but I think it's a bit of exaggeration to think that MOST of them can. Farming tomes is just not possible to an average multiboxer like myself. Even if you could, speed runs are highly unlikely. Dungeon runs are going to be significantly longer compared to a team of actual dedicated individuals. And for Coil, you can't multibox it 'nuff said.

For endgame, I end up doing more individual activities vs. the same time. To tell you the honest truth, I've felt plenty of times that I move at a snail's pace compared to someone just playing one character. The amount of concentration and effort puts me at a disadvantage at times. I've found myself stalling and worn out: the tortoise just edges out in the race (slow and steady). I spread myself thin working on multiple characters, and I'm weeks behind most of my FC because I divert and split my attention.

About all I can do as a multi-boxer is: I can level up at the same time, I could kill things non-instanced faster, I can do leves/quests at the same time, and I could craft at the same time (if I choose to). I'm sure those benefits create emotions of envy and jealousy, but there's no reason to hate. I admittedly envy the people that have time to play or can do speed runs, but that doesn't mean I would hate nor knock them because I couldn't do it myself. But with that said, anybody can take up multiboxing (and legally too). I understand there will always be circumstances (i.e. money, cpus, diligence, etc.), but the option is available. It's not an exclusive advantage when it's open to everyone.

The thing is, they do say NOT to use any 3rd party software that affects the game. What they don't do is define what affects the game. Cloned inputs may or may not be ok with SE. But then again, real multiboxers, the ones that invest heavily into it, use hardware cloning or virtualization. Both of which cannot be detected. You can see what they are doing is in synch, but when you look at their IP and MAC of the clients, they are different (because they are actually different, cept for the IP, but it looks like multiple people in the same household).

The game allows you to open 2 instances of FFXIV on 1 PC anyway so you don't need any programs or software to multi-box

Not only that but you can login to a JP character and a US character on the Same PC on the Same Account at the Same time, (RMT lovin this XD)

So, i wouldnt even worry...
