lots of other games do it so why not make it so a player you can not use shout or yell until after level 10 or even 15 and cant send tells until after you have passed the main 3 dungeons or unless person is on friends list.

Secondly, the biggest thing on our server which is obvious RMT activity, since beta the same level 1 npc sits at mail moogles in main cities normally and if targeted won't get in activity disconnected. Track their mail and ban them accounts. Members of our FC have watched the same npc 24/7 sit at various city mail moogles since official release. Trace their mail!!

I know this is utter madness. But there's another thing other games to, well, ok, 2 things:

1) Have GM's hanging around in street clothes to catch the /tell spam! (yeah street clothes means, not "I am GM somebody" and not some level 85 superdude that can't even be found by a player search)

2) RIGHT-CLICK -> REPORT SPAM - this would ostensibly copy the block of offending text associated with the name in the chat box AND add it to a bottomless blacklist that we wouldn't even be able to see (yeah it won't fill up! And we can't even delete them, Never EVER hear from them again unless a SE investigation proves it to be a mouse error, or some such other extraneous crap like an annoying troll, then SE can remove them from that bottomless blacklist!)

i coulda swore during beta that i couldnt shout till lvl 20, i musta remembered something wrong, wtf was it

I could support locking player's out of tell until they clear their lvl 10 story quest, but shouts not so much. New players need a way to request help/advice, and shout is generally the easiest way to do it.

An early level lockout on Tells however would at least constrict RMT advertisers to individual zones, instead of being about to freely spout their garbage across the entire server with one bot.

Can't shout tell yell till main story 10,
Can't shout till 1 real life day has passed.

But level 1 to 10 main story basically walks you thew step by step.

A lot of them are't low level characters. They're characters on stolen accounts. And a lot of those stolen accounts were stupid enough to buy the services from the RMTs in the first place. It's a vicious circle that MMOs can only solve by going after the RMT site owners.

Or, they could just look for odd behaviour.

Someone has sent out a shout 150 times in the last 60 seconds. Even if they aren't RMT they deserve to have a temp removal of their shout privileges.

Someone has sent out a tell to 200 different people in the last 60 seconds. They can no longer /tell for some amount of time.

Filter how many shouts and yells a person can send. Bot or legit, no one should be allowed to spam other people's log.

Delay in how fast you can shout, yell, and tell. Also restrict the ability to trade until level 10 -15. Makes it harder for them to sell their gil if they have to work to transfer it.
