A bot i've kept track of after reporting it.

So, the other week, well, beginning of last week, i reported a bot, like i usually do, when i see one..

Well, basically, this is an underground moving bot, utilising teleportation software and this is the character profile link:

(Yes, i will name and shame, when it comes to bots, not like they will read it anyway)

So, what the fun thing about this is, is that when i reported the bot, early last week, think it was monday or tuesday, the bot was about level 15.

And going by the area i sighted it then, and actually last night, i'd assume it goes only and solely for shards.

Now, the fun thing here is that once outleveled shards etc give about 24xp per item up to a total of 26 i think bonuses included.

Yesterday, the bot was at level 49...

Now let's see, a quick calculation of things.. gives:

Total experience to lv 49 roughly 7.750.00 xp

Subtract the initial level experience, roughly 150k ending up on about 7.600.000 xp

So, by dividing down a little here, we take 7.300.000 xp, (to account for some small bonuses etc) and divide it by 24, xp per whack

We come by a neat number of somewhere above 300.000 shards collected, in less than a week.

That is.. well.. ALOT in my eyes, and i'd guess extremely lucruative for i'm guessing "GOLDCEO" or another site

But what bugs me, is how it has been able to be active basically 1-50..



SE given up on botters ?

kudos for exposing these cheats. wow an entire FC filled w bots... a shame they dont have it to where if your gear falls to zero you cant mine. could really mess up their auto-pilot all day mining extravaganza

Well, just look on the lodestone, for FC's called precisely the same, and you'll see alot more :p
Should be atleast one on each server i'd say, as it really doesn't look like SE is going after the properly organized groups..

So I searched for free companies named "asdas" on the lodestone, 7 came up, all created on the same day too on 7 different servers. Between bots and RMT ruining our startup economy, and all the network issues that still persist I really don't see myself playing into next year unless SE steps up their moderation and tech support game.

I agree, but where would Square have their priorities, satisfying the bot crowd and getting rid of those or satisfying the gamer add crowd and working 24/7 on new content. oh the humanity

Part of the approach SE do is to monitor the RMT trails. They are playing the long game. They want to wipe out the whole chain in one go, which is what they have done before on this game and previously on FFXI. Wipe out those bots today and those companies create new ones immediately. Watch where the gil goes and track all the accounts it flows through for one month and SE can wipe out the bots, the gil banks and those people that buy the gil as well. All in one go. Take out the gil buyers and the gil sellers will leave because with no customers its a waste of time. In the meantime we all have to put up with the annoyance of it.

This one bot on Excalibur has been reported several times by several people I know, it used to stand for weeks on end doing the same repetitive routine, repeatedly botting Karakul in Coerthas, never once moving in all that time. It is still in game.

The same bot on balmung has been farming apkallus in the same spot for the last three weeks. Reporting him every day hasn't helped.

agreed, the botting continues because there is a market for it. The secret is to get rid of the buyers, you'd think the risk of getting you account hacked would be a deterrence, but apparently, people are still buying.

People can be greedy, impatient, and stupid. Anyone who buys gold at this stage in ARR's life is certainly all of these things to some degree.

I see literally 0 reason to buy Gil right now. With relics and DL gear being so easy to obtain, and Gil being so easy to make (I'm sitting on 700k, and I've handed out about 500k of mats to FC members) and I've barely been trying to earn.

I just don't understand it.

I will have to say that the bots are ridiculous, but I have run into many people on Ragnarok that are actually farming all of the stuff they repeatedly do over and over again. I had Today off so I spent pretty much Friday-today leveling my archer/bard 18-43 (still going as we speak just taking a breather) pretty much all weekend. I received many tells and trade requests as if they are "checking" on me. After shouting asking people to stop that I just want to level and to leave me alone, 3 other people in the area sent me tells saying the same issues was happening to them. Being accused as bots, or gil spammers etc. I can understand asking a legit question, or see a teleporter, but if I'm grinding fates, and killing trash mobs in Aleport or anywhere else after a fate doesn't make me a bot. I don't have the ability to sit still and wait for another fate to pop so I kill little mobs. Sure 207 exp doesn't sound so enticing, but after being online all weekend after taking 3 weeks off the game I wanted to get back into it hard, only to have myself and 3 others accused as botting (we even partied up after the tells! I don't think bots do that...)

tl;dr
Bots do suck, but you cant just report someone because you "think" they are a bot. Unless you see teleportation, or them gil-spamming tells to you, please think twice before harassing some of us. Some times we want to mine quietly and alone or do other things alone with out a hassle of a party, we don't need the harassing tells :P

While I understand that, it just feels like reporting them is doing nothing. 162 people on my BL and they are still active. The tells in cities seem to be getting worse too IMO. Just saying that I've been "victim" to being accused and it doesn't feel very good :( I've even had a stranger stand up for me in Coetheras because I was farming the HQ sheep wool for like 4 hours and people started shouting I was a bot until a guy defended me. it's not like I didn't respond to their threats, I asked nicely for them to stop and leave me alone. It goes deeper then a lot of people have dealt with.

This was the main reason I stopped playing, too many bots and nothing at all being done about it. They've won.

I totally understand and appreciate the concept, except... Well, the quote of the famous British economist John Maynard Keynes comes to mine: 'In the long run, we are all dead.'

The long game makes sense to wipe them all out. But the issue still remains that in the mean time an expectation for low prices at market is solidifying in players minds. The challenge then becomes how do we make things right after that?

I like that SE does player bans/reprimands and outright bans of he gil sellers. It makes me feel like the problem is being seriously handled. I am just surprised of the hyrda like mentality of these people, you cut one head off and two more grow back. It's a hard problem to solve and it really effects the game.

What I have always been confused about is SE knows the websites tied to the rmt. It shouldn't be hard to get the websites shut down since many are tied to phishing and identity theft.

If your website is hosted in a country where some laws don't apply SE can't do anything. But we as players can start DoS attacks on those sites bringing them down ;) Anyways even if SE thinks in long terms Botters did already bring lots of items into the market which wouldn't have been there. And they can't ban people who buy shards on the AH. There needs to he short term reactions. Botters would have a hard time if they would get banned within the first 10 levels of gathering. I only report people where botting is too obvious like mining in the underground. And these botters could be banned instantly. Sure botters doing less obvious things need an long term investigation.

Frankly, if RMTs just botted shards all day long I would almost embrace them. Shards are the bane of most crafters' existence and the bots will at least decrease the price and increase the availability. Farming shards in the quantities they're needed is too soulsucking for regular players. If SE really wants to stop botting they'll stop designing things this way. I'd rather not need to resort to buying shards from RMT on the markets, but I'm sure as hell not going to go out and gather thousands of them myself.

(If anyone thinks I'm exaggerating the issue, 1 stack of La Noscean Toast takes a total of 1427 shards to make.)

This post is pretty lolworthy. The people working on new content aren't the people who ban bots. Two totally different teams.
