Maybe it is a dumb question, but still I have to figure it out. Aren't the BLM job's actions a bit useless? Apart from Manawall (nullifies two phys attacks) and maybe Flare (I am closed to get it).
Convert sucks HP to get MP. Why would I do that if I can get all the MP I need with Ethers and then cast Blizzard III?
Freeze I still have to understand what it does so special.
Apocatastasis shields a bit the others, one per time, from elements. And only for a short time I mean.. It is a Black Mage!
And I lose Protect as a cross-class action. Am I looking at them in the wrong way? I never use the 3 above.

Convert is actually a great tool to use while you're during your main burn and are running short on MP. It allows you to maximize your damage output while under cooldowns or to use different rotations effectively. Apocatastasis is a very underutilized tool but is useful in a few endgame scenarios. Manawall is great for when you take aggro or just feel like pulling and negating melee. it will also be extremely useful in pvp, as will the above mentioned skills.
Freeze is a light damage CC. it binds the targets in the circle and is supposed to leave a effect for 15s that when entered binds anyone who enters. Hope that answers you. -

Ahhh!! So you mean that with Freeze the mobs stay inside the circle? I mean, I tried it few times around but I could never really figure out its benefit. I still have doubts about Convert, though. When I tried to use it I ended up dying. But I was solo, probably not the best idea. Still, wouldn't a mega ether be enough?

To be honest they are all useless. I'm a 50 blm... and the only ones I use that u mention is mana wall/shield and convert only when I use flare. I use other abilities from cross class.. eye for a eye, and raging strikes.

I've never had to use freeze, Apocatastasis isn't useful that much to be honest there's nothing that requires them from current strategy's. Convert is useful after using flare. Manawall/shield are good to use when u pull hate or want to avoid the knockback effect of some enemies I.E. titan hm, and the demonwall come to mind...

Convert is amazing period, its about 1k mana, and you can use int potions which boost your damage. Even more when combo'd with raging strikes. I play WHM and BLM in Coil (up to turn 5 btw) and my BLM parses 125k+.Quote:

Granted while Freeze is barely used in any endgame content, its not a useless ability. its all about finding uses for it.

granted i am still not blackmage (only lvl 18 so far) but does using transpose and switch to ice (if using fire) not regen your mana quickly?
Seems silly to sacrifice hp when there is already an ability to gain mana back.
Just asking as once i am done main story with PLD i wish to go as a black mage -

Plus it can add another couple of spells to your fire rotation if used properly, increasing your damage output (since blizzard kind of sucks damage-wise).Quote:

Thunder III>Fire III> Fire spam until 300MP> Blizzard III> Thunder III> Fire III> Fire III (if done right you can cast back to back Fire III and the first Fire III shouldn't cost anything with the MP regen delay)>Fire spam until 300MP>Flare>Convert>Swiftcast>Flare>Transpose>Blizzard III and then repeat. Thats basically what you have to look forward to at 50 as a BLM with out the ability to move and attack like the other classes. Hopefully we will see some more abilities for the BLM in the future!
