As it is, the cast bar (and thus the name of the spell being cast) is obscured by the focus target's name. Is there a way to have the name disappear when casting, like it does in your own party? It's so hard to see what's being cast as it is.

Not sure, but if u set focus box to max size it should help, also move it ofc if it colide whit main target "box"
Pretty sure this is one of the things they said they'd be changing in 2.1.
You're confused. 2.1 hasn't happened yet. There was a hotfix last month that moved the debuffs you cast on a mob to the left hand side of the target bar. They have said that in the 2.1 patch (which, again, hasn't happened yet) they will have fixed the castbar in the focus target window so you can actually read it 100% of the time. Demon Wall's Repel is generally readable currently; Anantaboga's Imminent Catastrophe is not.
What about a Focus cast modifier?
For example, if I set a key (let's say Shift) and use an ability while holding Shift, the ability will be cast against the Focus target instead of my actual target.
Focus is good, but without a Focus cast modifier it has very little use.
Until they add your idea if they do (which would be good), you can still use /ac "Fire"<focus> to attack your Focus Target.
I use it a lot as White Mage to have Main Tank selected et cast various DoT's and Virus on Titan for example.
Thanks god you are finally fixing this.
It's been only 3 months+

A macro of
/macroircon "Ability"
/action "Ability" <f>
will use the ability on your focus target.
This, of course, requires another hotbar set up with all these macros on it or you can use a redundant macro of
/macroircon "Ability"
/action "Ability" <t>
/action "Ability" <f>
or
/macroircon "Ability"
/action "Ability" <f>
/action "Ability" <t>
depending on if you want the macro to prioritize your target or your focus target. It will try to do the first line, if it can't, for example invalid target, it will execute the 2nd line, which if you execute the 1st line it won't do because cooldowns. You might want to filter errors in whatever chat log you primarily use though.
I still see the focus target bar over the cast bar. how do i fix it?
Ya this didn't seem very fixed, still pretty difficult to see the casting bar.
it definitely hasnt been fixed. at least on ps3.
It was fixed at one point. One of the hotfixes seems to have (unintentionally) reverted it.
