Aimed attacks (Flaming Arrow, Sacred Soil, Shadowflare) and controller

I've noticed that controller players have more issues placing these than mouse/keyboard players and I had an idea.

Yes kb/mice are superior to controller, but controllers are supposed to be a viable way to play this game.

Can you offer the option so a macro can be written so that it centers the attack on the target? Allowing the target to be a player target or enemy target would be nice, but whatever.

It's not that bad, placement is fine for me. It threw me for a loop at first with Flaming Arrow because instead of a mouse it's a little white dot in the middle of the screen. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working because it's always centered in the middle of the screen and thus throws the target way off in the distance. Once you figure that out there's no effort involved, save for the sort-of-slow camera speed.

I play on PS3 and have absolutely no problems whatsoever aiming/firing my Flaming Arrow move. I bust it out with perfect accuracy in the perfect timing halfway between my GCD respawn just like any other instant skill. Please refrain from categorizing "all controller" players into one or two instances you may have been been subjected to. Thanks!

Btw: I have about 5 rl friends in my FC who use the PS3 controller on PC because many aspects of it are superior to PC. I.E. General movement, switching between hotbar skills.

I had trouble at first with these controller aimed attacks, but eventually you get used to the awkwardness of it. I don'T think controllers are as gimped as people think.

I haven'T had any complaints other than times I was invited to a dungeon after spending too much gil drowning my sorrows at Buscaron's Druthers...

Perhaps a command to "center" onto the mob would greatly benefit the inebriated.

I'm not saying controllers are supergimp but they are inferior. A good keyboard player is just better than a good controller player because the keyboard can use the mouse.

It seems to me the people that toss the the ability half a square away are usually using a controller. I have no experience with it myself, besides CM (vehicles) since I haven't leveled a job with such an attack. I can commiserate a little. You're playing scholar and healing the tank for all you've got, you've got about 75% of a GCD to get it placed properly and get back on the tank.

I prefer playing Xbox controler on PC.

some people are just bad players.

i have no issues using it, might be slightly longer to place it but I never miss and i hardly ever use those skills

I just don't agree with this statement is all. A good player is a good player regardless of the hardware he/she uses to perform the task. Repetition and remedial adaptability will allow anyone with any sort of 'skill' to learn and progress past the initial barriers imposed.

Now to say that, when dealing with the AoE aimed attacks, it may be a little harder to get used to on controller is perfectly valid. Sure, it's probably easier on a PC where you can just click the ground immediately. It is also very easy to become accustomed to what you need to do on a controller to do it effectively.

Example: When I run AK, on the first lunatic mobs I always start the exact same way. Windbite, Flaming Arrow during cooldown, Venomous Bite. Most (competent) archers will do something similar, at least regarding the two DoT moves. My Flaming Arrow is always down with more than enough time for me to hit Venomous Bite on time, and in perfect positioning. Countless times I have my Arrow move out before a SMN has his Shadow Flare out, when the SMN starts his rotation with a Shadow Flare. I doubt I have played with nothing but PS3 players, and so far I haven't grouped with a DPS as efficient as me. I'm not saying they aren't out there, I'm just saying I play on PS3 and I can hang with top dogs in any situation.

Firstly, Shadowflare is a 3 second cast. So unless the Summoner uses Swift Cast for it, anyone can get Flaming Arrow out before it. Secondly, what the person was likely referring to, is that with any given game, if player skill is perfectly equal(which is typically impossible and just makes the argument more annoying), or better yet NO skill involved so as to remove the random human element, one control method will be superior to another. How much depends on the game type and such. The gap would be larger on something like a FPS.

You can play the game with your feet if you wanted and be "good" at it, but that doesn't mean that you won't be better with your hands.

Somebody can be good with either a keyboard OR a controller, sure, but IMO they have a higher potential by using keyboard/mouse.

Better hardware makes a better user. It just...does. A sharpshooter today wouldn't be nearly as accurate with 75 year old rifle.

It's much like skill vs gear. Gear still makes a skilled player better. Controllers are great for some things, but keyboards win with the variety of controls mmos require.

False.

A good player is a good player. Period. It doesn't matter what they use to play the game. Someone well practiced with a controller will completely suck if given a keyboard and mouse. Just like someone who is used to keyboard and mouse will fumble with a controller. Don't call it inferior because YOU are unable to play with it due to lack of practice. It's all in what you're used to and what you prefer. Neither one is better than the other. It depends completely on the player and nothing more.

Still, at the moment, keyboards offer better aiming, better interaction with the many boxes on the screen, more realistic combo options than the crossbars offer.
