So, am I to understand that there is no add on content we can purchase, i.e. inventory slots, retainers etc. With all the items and odds and ends in this game, I could easily use another hundred slots or so, and I'm willing to pay for it.

If I could see your inventory and retainers I am sure I would vendor/sell/discard half the stuff you are pack ratting and nothing of value would be lost.
It's a problem if you're a crafter.
There's just too much shit and I have no space...all the time lmao.
They need individuals slots at least for the crafter/gather classes.
Please do not mention payment for this, that'll be so bad...
You don´t have enough space with 8 bags and 16 retainers?
Convert gear > Trade gear for GC credit > Space.
I see this pack rat mentality pop up in every single online game I've ever played.
I understand, I really do. I have two crafts at 50, another above 30, and all of my gathering classes are > 15. I have an entire retainer who has seven pages full of cooking ingredients. But that's my choice, and my problem - there's no reason they should start throwing more storage at me simply because I don't want to get rid of my cul mats.
Inventory management has always been a part of RPGs. Learn to do it, instead of asking the game to do it for you.
'it's always been like that' was a pretty damn fine reason to keep feudalism, too.
oh wait.
Even as a crafter you shouldn't run into any inventory issues unless you're trying to level them all at once for some reason, and keep all of the materials you've ever used. The vast majority of stuff will only be used a couple of times while leveling up, and then never again.
I went through my retainers and sold all but 10 items on each. it was all things I thought I needed or would need but it was just things that'd cost very little to buy back or very little time to gather. now I have more space than I need
Well...because crafting here, you need to do more than 1 craft/gather to do crap.
For instance.
For LW: I need LW items GS sells, I need to farm, and I need to be a ARM for some stuff. If I never did GSM, I would need GSM stuff too.
I think there was one for lumber...which makes me think I need to be a BTN not sure.
GSM: I need to be a MIN then a LW for somethings and I think farm some stuff. I originally was a GSM and got took around the world.
Crap adds up. I rather do my own stuff than buy from Market too, which leads to lots of random ores and crap.
-Sigh- lol. It's still fun because I get to tinker with all the gathering and crafting.
I like to keep certain things although I do not need them at the moment. I am a collector (ok, sometimes also crap lol) and I like to be able to help others when they ask for certain items. I know it is my "problem" but I would also like to see more inventory space. Not only for items but also for weapons and armoury. If you have a few active chars, their equipment plus the items you keep for future use suck up a lot of the inventory space. This Game is meant to be played for a longer time and FF once had a very nice inventory tradition: to give you ENDLESS space so you do not need to worry about collecting.
So + 1 for more space, especially having future expansions in mind. The more classes they add, the worse the space problem will become.
Also remember you can toss some stuff into the Armoire. Right now I think it can only hold AF gear and 1.0 event gear, but hopefully that will be expanded soon to include the 2.0 event gear.

@OP: there is a talk back in 1.0 8an very very old thread) about hire addictional retainer via montly payment but have not been confirm neither update anymore info about that.
Also there is an info from Yoshi (back in 1.0 ofc) there ll be place to store primals weapon in player housing....have not hear any more info about that either.
Long reply make short, lets wait for the housing & private housing before asking for more inventory slots, they might have something in their mind.
The best solution I have to counter this problem atm are:
1. only keep green item that have unique look that you want
2. optimize your material. That mean do not keep raw material, only keep the craft product like Ingot and etc and for craft class like ALC and CUL and mostly CUL, only gather what you need and dont keep any of those material in inventory because with 5-6 items/recipe they take a lot of space, you can always gather material when you need so dont keep them
3. this option only avaiable for some ppl and if possible I do recommend crafter to make their owm FC and use the FC warehouse as an alt WH
or ask your leader to give you FC WH access
so far I dont have the inventory space issue even w/o FC WH so I dont think it is the issue atm
But id like to have a synthesis material bankt too, im really spoiled as a gw2 player :(

it goes something like this and is really nice, if you have more than 1 stack you have to put it somewhere else tho xO so it still needs more than enough mnagement.
In Ff there arent even sort/filter options. It's really tiring to switch between bags and sort stuff.
I mean I know where i have my stuff. It's on 2 Characters and 4 retainers + FC bank. and that is really really tiring...
"oh the leather stuff is on the other character, so because i need 1 leather XY i need to switch character" or something ._.

750 total inventory slots, and people still complain.....175 from 2 retainers, 100 inventory, and 300 armory chest...
Heh. I'm leveling all DoH/DoL and yeah sometimes it gets crowded, but just sell stuff you've overleveled and hope you'll pay as much as you sold it for that ONE time you're gonna need a piece of it next. I think the most intensive use of space comes from culinarian and fisher. But it's not like this stuff is hard to get anyway, at least for me it isn't. Just keep what's important, throw the rest away :)
Some modern MMOs have removed the space limitations for craftings items. For a crafting oriented MMO like FFXIV, it should be the case.
after coming from other mmo's I was floored by all the inventory space that you actually get in this game from the start.
You maxing out every inventory slot/armoire/armoury chest/retainers made me think of this:

I have all 8 DoH to 50 and 2 of the 3 (working on fishing atm) DoL to 50 and I am utilizing them all daily. I really don't have ANY issues. You just need to organize your things and acknowledge that inventory, like MP and Gil, is a resource that must be managed and prioritized.
Im leveling all of them at once. I need more space. I would pay for more retainers or more bag slots tabs.
Learn to be strategic and balance resources. This game is kiddy enough without you asking it to be more easy-mode.
WHY would anyone not want more inventory space? Inventory is a joke in this game. There is more to collect in this game for crafting than any game I've play to date. Vanguard makes the inventory slots in this game look very small and there is less to collect there.
Please just add more or the options to get more. For those who don't want it then don't use it. Managing your bags is a nightmare too since you can't even auto-arrange or just have it all moved to the first bags and leave the last bags full.
More space is a need due to the gathering/crafting/multiclassing etc...And no I don't want to harvest every time I need to craft...
If you are a crafter with multiple or all crafts leveled you have to actually organize your inventory, not just stuff everything in there.
Weaver: Keep only your threads on hand. Anything that turns into thread, do it and keep a stack of each type of thread around. Don't keep cloth (except felt) since you can use your threads to make the exact amount of cloth you need for a recipe.
Goldsmith: Ores into ingots, keep a stack of each. Lower level gemstones don't really need to be kept on hand, but keep the higher level ones.
Armorer/Blacksmith: Ores into ingots, keep the ingots. Plates, rivets, rings, etc. can be made on an as needed basis.
Carpenter: Logs into lumber. Keep higher level branches around, but no need to stockpile the lower level ones.
Leatherworker: Skins into leather, same as above.
Alchemy and cooking are a bit harder to control. For these, just keep on hand the mats you use for your most frequent recipes. There's lots of things that you could keep on hand, but don't really need to.
You shouldn't have too much of an inventory issue. You just have to stop every once in a while and consolidate any drops or gathered things into what you're actually stacking and storing.
Its quite the pain actually but thats the tradeoff of being able to level everything in just one character.
Ive leveled BRD to 40, giving WAR a go, and at the same time trying to level woodworking/botany. Gives me a headache just keeping things organized. I dont want to throw away the old WAR gear because ill be using it on PLD eventually. Same goes for everything ive collected so far with BRD which ill be using for MNK. Not to mention any possible future classes. Luckily weapons/tools can be discarded as they are upgraded (unless you want for possible vanity slots later).
Then there is mats ... I hope whoever thought it was a good idea to throw in a lower level mat on some higher level recipes (from other DoH/DoL no less!) needs to burn in the firey depths of hell for all eternity.
.... again, not much they can do ... they already give us plenty of space IMO. Itll never be enough.
Yeah, I've been trying to just hold onto ores, logs, and other raw materials. I love the fact that I can just whip up whatever I need to make an item, but still end up running low on space from time to time.
I've always hated inventory (junk) management.
I'm leveling all crafts and gather together. With all at about 30 now, I've managed ok and tend to have things I need on hand. I recently though sold alot of fish I had on retainers, and now I have lots of room to work with.
There's more fish in the sea. If you can easily get it again, whatever it is, then you can get rid of it when you don't need it.
