[Dev1075]Note to the Developers: Musketeers should not be limited to pistols.

The definition of a Musket includes long rifles.

A friend of mine, who is a bit of a firearms aficionado, made this distinction, and has expressed an interest in becoming a Musketeer.

However, she would be extremely disappointed - nay, she would be angry - if the Musketeer class focused only on pistols.

So, I implore the Developers to consider implementing a Long Rifle subjob for Musketeer that functions as a marksman class with abilities similar to "Called Shots" in other MMOs: in other words, guaranteed headshots, as well as other appropriate abilities that are fitting for a long range marksman.

Actually, if you consider the design of the pistol and rifles, and their applications; pistoleers have more speed but less power, and muskets have more power, but less speed.

So it would be dependent on the player's playstyle: Does the player want to be a fast, rapid-hitting musketeer (like a Pugilist), or does the player want to be a hard hitting, precise marksman (like a Marauder).

I ask of the Developers to take this into consideration with utmost urgency.

My friend will bite my head off if musketeer is restricted to only pistols. I wanna live, please.

Pistols primary, rifles secondary?

EDIT: Or just do it like Glads and give them 2 primaries.

Not to be a downer, but the icon for the Muskateer's Guild makes it fairly obvious that it's a pistol-based class. The devs aren't doing to redesign a class because one person wants it done a different way.

But the devs said they are redesigning all the classes from the ground up so who knows.

Muskateer hasn't even been released. Kind of hard to redesign something that never got out the door. Who knows when we will even see Muskateer.

2 primary weapons would be cool, after all didn't Musketeers in some countries also use rapiers and small swords along with muskets/rifles?

Well, the OP and their friend seem to want something like this, and while we know what the real life musketeers were like, I'd prefer to keep the guys with fancy hats and rapiers associated with this. Consider it the fair compromise. >.>

And yes, musketeers should have muskets. They really are worthy of two different main type weapons to encourage different styles of play. I can definitely see the whole thing with pistols being quick weapons while muskets are slower but stronger work, as well. Just needs to be balanced so that one does not overcome the other.

They will have 1H & 2H like mage jobs.

Don't worry about it. ^^

we don't even have gunner weapon class in the game

I doubt that Musketeer job will be include in the first job system realease

No one could've said it any better.

It's certainly possible, after all, if you go to the coral tower, you will notice that there are long rifles in racks on the walls, even though the npcs are equipped with pistols. It seems to me that the class was meant to have access to both types of weapons.

Most classes have 3-4 different types of 'subweapons' within their equips. Gladiators use swords, daggers, longswords, etc.

Therefore.

Musketeer: Pistols, Rifles and Gunblades.

Calling it now.

Somehow I feel like gunblades and gunlances (Yes, there are Gunlances) are restricted to the Empire at this time.

Anyway, we won't know until we can get some visual/verbal confirmation from the devs on this matter.

Again, I do NOT want to get chewed out. @_@

If Muskateer gets Gunblades, that'll be the only class I ever play again a la FFXIV.

They could always go with crossbows

If you go to the Musketeer's Guild or even the Thundersticks shop in Limsa you can clearly see Rifles all over the place. Clearly if they weren't going to be a possible weapon they wouldn't have put them up all over.

I'm going to be extremely pissed if Gunblades and Gunlances are NPC only. It's like a giant "Hey we know you want this so F U!" SE knows their audience and they know they love gun hybrid weapons. It would just be too mean.

You redesign it before you release it....lol. Also it heavily depends on the lore and whatever else they add if they'll have more than a pistol or not.

The sister ray was Midgar use only and vincent couldn't use even a mini version of it. I was extremely pissed.

You gotta give NPCs some uniqueness lol.

It's 2 Great Axes, so it's fitting.

Lancer's guild is a polearm.

Whatever it is, as a marauder, I am sad that I can't equip a sidearm pistol like the marauder in the opening Limsa cutscene.

Hopefully when musketeers are finally implemented, there will be a way for me to do that.

Let's also not forget that Limsa's Chief Admiral uses Rifles.

I started the game in limosa thinking I could become musketeer but this class is still not available!?

musketeer = rapier + rifle , almost in history.

I totally agree, especially since the guild has rifles in it. :)

Pretty sure in the data it showed that there are single handed and two handed guns for them. Possibly being able to dual wield pistols.

No, she uses 2 pistols. You can even see her using Death Penalty (One of her two pistols) in the side quest.

Musketeers primary weapon is going to be an M2 Carl Gustav and their mount an MI 24 Hind, take that you Garlean bastards! +124 points marksman headshot!. HOOO RAH!

Either way, the names in the game are often less accurate than they may seem. For example, did you know that a Dragoon is pretty much a musketeer? They were a special cavalry based Musketeer, deriving their name from a gun called the Dragoon. They don't command dragons and I'd be hard pressed to find one carrying a lance.

But that doesn't matter. And neither does a Musketeer carrying a pistol. In fact, when people think Musketeer, they think 3 guys that are really good at sword fighting. lulz.

I don't think it would make much sense to limit Musketeers to just pistols(even though that's what I'd be using with 'em primarily), especially if we've already seen plenty of long rifles all over crates and shops in Limsa Lominsa(it'd be nice if there were more people around there to party with me :( ).

Now I don't know how they'd incorporate other types of guns into gameplay as opposed to cosmetic. After all, GLD can use daggers, but it doesn't get dagger-specific abilities(maybe they're going to create a "rogue" class in the future and take away dagger from GLD).

I think a good way to handle this in the future with jobs is to potentially let Musketeer unlock Corsair on its own, but after leveling Musketeer and Archer to a certain rank, maybe unlock Ranger or maybe a new type of long-distance job(nobody says they can't add new jobs to the series like FFXI did). By doing that, maybe you could gain exclusive abilities that take advantage of a higher caliber, more precise rifle.
