Sunken Temple of Qarn: The Adjudicator and Summoners

I've been having a lot of trouble with The Adjudicator as my Summoner -- I'm able to do the first two bosses without a hitch now, but I just cannot get the final one down...

This mainly has to do with the black-box Mythril Verges that charge Verge Pulse when they pop up. As a DPS, I'm generally expected and assigned to taking out all of the verges when they pop up, including the Verge Pulse ones. However, as a Summoner, I just don't seem to have the burst DPS necessary to take them out dependably. By the time I get my rotation set up (Bio 2, Miasma, Bio), the Verge is nearly charged. If I'm lucky, I can get a Fester off in time, and if I'm luckier that will barely take it out (not to mention the fact that I only have so many Aetherflows). Is there a better way to do this? Any advice would be appreciated.

I haven't done it as SMN, but you might opt to use an attacker pet (Ifrit) to ensure it stays close to you/close to the target, bio, spam Energy Drain and Ruin. You won't have a use for Bane on the boss and can move to Fester as time/stacks permit.

You could also pawn that role off to the other DPS in the group if they have higher single target burst damage.

Miasma -> Bio -> Ruin Spam

Make sure your pet is attacking it, too.

Just ignore them and burn the boss down.

My first reaction was as a healer in that wow talk about making it suck to heal. However as I think about it if everyone stayed around for medica would it be that bad? I suspect the success would rely more on gear/hit point totals of the party such that the tank could handle the incoming damage plus the spikes from the pulses. Some of the tanks I've done it with would work out well, others it was a fight to keep them up even without the pulses.

Well I'm must saying that because that how I did Qarn when levelling up. Tbh, I always thought we had to dodge the "square" aoe or else we got trapped and killed inside haha :p

MP will also be an issue if you have to do a lot of Medicas, since the boss uses Creeping Darkness as well (although that can be stunned).

Does the pet trigger the barrier? Do I need to have him go in before me, or do I need to have him go in at the same time...?

I can't get the verges down solo fast enough before the pulse goes off either, and my pet takes too long to get to me after I pull it too :(.

I think caster DPS just is a little bad on the verges. A BLM might just get the verges down in time cause of their direct damage, but their cast times are really long the swiftcast has a cooldown.

I think melee dps and bards are best for these, there are just some classes that are better at things than others. Nothing to worry about, just download the FFXIV APP and make sure you are pulling your weight in dungeons :).

It's all about getting them down as quick as possible, so I'd try Ifrit, Sic and just spam Ruin. I'm not sure I'd waste time with DoTs in the boxes.

Also if you're paying attention you'll notice the boxes pop in a pattern. After a couple deaths I realized the pattern and was able to anticipate boxes before they popped so I was already in position.

Yeah. To be honest SMN is not the best DPS for the verges, but actually make a fantastic tank for the final boss. I did a run as PLD (me), SMN, DRG, WHM. Had Titan tank the Adjudicator in the corner while I handled the Sun Jurors (shield lob then DPS'd them on the block so they would despawn. After the third one, would join the boss and dps it in Sword Oath mode. When it came to the boxes I would handle the single on (since DRG is more dps than me) while when the doubles spawned we would each handle one. Give titan about 10-15seconds of ahead time to gain hate and it's hard to take it from him (though I had Provoke + Shield Oath on the ready just in case). Just command him to sit against the wall so the AoE doesn't target anyone but the wall and between an occasional heal from the WHM, Sustain was more than plenty.

I am not saying SMN cannot kill the verges, the only problem comes is that SMN dps takes a bit of a ramp up to hit, whereas the verges are charging from the moment they drop so by the time you can get there and start dotting/ruin spam it just isn't enough time. Could very well use Fester (gained at 35) after a Miasma/Bio/Bio2 for some spike damage. But I think letting Titan tank the boss is by far a better use of SMN attributes and letting the tank dps the verges down (if PLD can do it I have no doubt WAR is the same, if not better for this.)
