PS3/PC lag difference help

I saw the massive amount of other posts concerning this topic but I didn't notice this issue in discussion and I seriously don't understand it.

So after hours of Titan HM with lag that just makes it impossible making me rage I decided to listen to a few FC mates and go buy the PS3 version and get in on that.

F**king magical space wizards must have blessed the PS3 because on the same exact connection coming out of the same wall jack. There is no AOE lag on the PS3. It is night and day. I can dance on the redlines on the PS3 and know I'm fine, but on the PC I'm 5 bodylengths out and sweating as to if it will decide to hit me or not.

Now before you go HAM on my hardware I'll just say I run 90 FPS at the slowest of times.

Can someone explain this to me? Give me an answer besides a conspiracy theory about boosting PS4 sales, anything?

The game is a piss poor console game ported to PC. Has that ever really worked out? Optimization flies out of the window as soon as you introduce consoles. I bet a lot of the problems people are facing are related to this.

Except it was made for PC first and the PS3 development followed. It has always run poorly, but it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be back in 1.0. It still needs a ton of optimization work though.

PS3 Limitations. This will haunt this game for its life cycle

yeah... same thing that happened in FFXI, SE constantly saying they can't do something, or add something because of PS2 limitations.

They should have dropped the ps3 support the moment they decided to redevelop the game and make the game into ARR instead of staying with 1.0.

They could have spent that wasted time on further optimization for the PC version.

Are both connected to internet the same way?

Yes they are Zohno. I seriously used the same exact internet cable. I wanted to test it so I unplugged the ethernet from the computer and plugged it into the Ps3.

I'm not a networking guru or anything even close so I'm just so confused/pissed by this. My shiny newly upgraded PC is useless for an MMO because of some artificial lag BS. But a cheap old PS3 runs it fine... I feel like smashing my face into my desk.

It's a pc game ported to console. You have it backwards.

On topic though I suppose it is possible you have a inadequate network card. Perhaps it's having some issues and needs replaced or needs a driver update? It's also possible that your ISP sees the traffic coming from your PC differently than it does from the ps3, and that the PC traffic is being routed poorly. It is a known issue that many ISPs have labeled FFXIV ARR as p2p traffic and are routing it accordingly. It is entirely possible the ps3 version is identified correctly as a ps3 and isn't routed the same way. I was using battleping to test this on my home system and for a week or so I'm pretty sure I was getting less lag than my roommate who wasn't using it.

You could also call your ISP to confirm if this is the case, and if it is you may be able to inform them that they are routing this incorrectly.

Did you test if your character runs slower on PC compared to other players? Some people reported such issue in the past.

The games performance on PC is directly related to the PCs specs. If your PC is less powerful than a PS3, you'll notice that the PS3 will peform better and vice versa.

The problem with the PS3 is that it hits a performance cap. So many players in an area and you're going to lag, period. So many effects, you're lagging. The PC you can always toss a new video card and some more ram in to relieve the issue.

That said, the AOE lag is another thing entirely. I wasn't aware that PS3 didn't suffer from it, but that's universal on the PC. Spec does not play into it.

It was you and the seven other people who are responsible for winning. The fact that you won on a PS3 after attempting many times on the PC version does mean the PS3 hardware has any type of advantage over the PC version or vice versa. You won because you and the seven with you performed. You should be congratulating yourself, not trying to rationalize that the PC version is somehow gimped.

I am completely and totally baffled by that statement.
Trying to understand the massive difference in AOE lag on the PC versus the PS3 is rationalizing?

If I can be out of an AOE on the PC for over half of the cast bar and still get hit but I can get out of the same AOE on the PS3 with a hairs breadth left on the cast bar and not even sweat it...... yeah that is a huge difference and I want to know why it exists.
