Creating a FC for new players - help or ideas?

Hi all,
I'm considering trying to join with any person(s) who would be interested in starting a FC expressly for new players to help them overcome story quests, hunting logs, dungeons, and just as a place where you can come in the game to find friends and people who genuinely care. I've been in so many FCs where people will login and logout without so much as a 'hello' or 'goodbye' - or where there may be 200 people on the roster, but half of those haven't logged in for 20 days.

What I'm hoping to create is a FC where the actual new players to the game have a place where they feel comfortable asking any question, no matter what it is, and where they don't feel drowned out by the huge majority of members all being at lvl 50 and filling the chat with acronyms none of the new players even know.

Does this sound like a feasible idea? I just miss the kind of family-like atmosphere that many, though not all, LS had in FFXI - where people adventured together even if it meant putting their own progress on hold. Anyone that would like to help and/or lead a FC like this with me please let me know. I'm on Leviathan, atm ^_^

I think it's a really good idea, but not just for the sake of new players tho. Don't forget yourself!

Yeah, when you get ppl show them compassion, unlike ELITIST FC's I know of that treat ppl like pure trash or dirt.

Thanks all ^_^v yes, the idea is to be something people don't expect given the way the game seems to be at 50, and to treat each person as a person who actually has feelings behind the character they play. And @Laifon (is that a Regulos reference...) - I actually have a 50 BRD I don't really play much and am leveling up a CNJ to try to make it easier on all those people who can't even complete their starting dungeons since no one runs them anymore. This FC would be the kind of place where just a bunch of people who actually need the same thing or just feel the desire to help those who do, would congregate ^_^v @Jabbywocks - I'd love the help but sadly I just got done paying to transfer to Leviathan from a EU server and multiple $18 is a lil too much for me :(

I wouldn't mind creating a new char on your server. I'm a bit bored atm with my level 50.

That'd be cool Jabbywocks ^^ Just let me know when/if you do and we'll try to find 2 more :) Though, I'm not even sure how to go about finding new players who would be interested in joining a FC like this -- and I hate spamming for members in town. Hmm..

I had a similar idea as well, but mine was for a linkshell rather than a FC. Mostly because I am already with a very helpful and friendly FC.

This system is just intended to help level and network new players on the Leviathan server. The idea has a drawback in that you have to customize the settings more to make the linkshell chat as visible as the fc chat and we might need to set something up for a fc chest later on, but it allows us to better network and connect new players in to desirable guilds (not necessary elite, but those that are a good fit for the player).

Think of it as a school that helps players level and prepares them for end-game (if the player desires it). The end-game prep would teach members common ways experienced players run content and what is required for them to reach content they want to do. After that, they can show off their skills in parties and we can encourage our "alumni" and "instructors" to introduce those members to FCs (most FC groups will have one or two spaces open for their dungeon runs anyway) in the hope they like the atmosphere and can work with the group. Of course, there's nothing stopping them from starting their own FC or joining the original FC leading the linkshell as well.

That sounds like a great idea, Anova ^^ So would there be both a FC and a LS, or just a LS? I'll try to get on again later to chat with you :)

After talking with Deneb, I'm thinking at this time it makes more sense to make a LS first for all the new players to join with eventually making it into a FC if there is interest. This way, all of the higher level folks who join to be the helpers don't need to leave their current endgame/social FC just to help out. Once we grow together as a LS and help each other to level and progress through the story, those who wish to stay and form a FC together will be more than welcome, and those who wish to go their own way and seek an appropriate FC home will be more than free to do so.

Again, the whole point of the LS will be to help new players progress -- it is my goal that no one in the LS should ever need to use the duty finder to run story dungeons, should enough people in the LS be on and of the needed classes.

Any new players or helpful vets who would like to join, please post here and I or Deneb will be sure to invite. I'm probably going to name the LS 'Benevolence'.

It seems a good idea for at least a while, but I'm not sure how sustainable it would be. The FC I'm in used to be very newcomer and low-level friendly but, although still friendly, more and more of the active members have reached end-game, so that's where their interest is moving. It seems to be hard to maintain a newcomer focus for very long in a group whose members are only temporarily at those levels. No newcomer is going to want a bunch of level 50 players around; they have nothing in common to work on together.

This sounds like a great idea! For a couple reasons, one I love to help people and two I could really use the help myself. ATM Dungeons give me anxiety :)

Hi there, as you already know I am with you on this lets talk more.

I know of a few groups like this on several worlds and I think they are great. I am always in favour of such groups.

I think you just need to make sure of a few ground rules going in to set the attitude. My recommendations for what those rules are would fall into something along the lines of:

1. Members must be willing to give polite open answers to questions. (not everyone knows everything, no matter their level)
2. Members should be willing to contribute to the occasional low end dungeons, even when they are past that point. (all players are dependent on each other)
3. Related to the above, but high end dungeons cannot take priority over story mode dungeons where new players are involved. (Story requires completion to continue)
4. Experienced players should be willing to train new players, even if it means many wipes and failed runs. (Eg, Titan, etc, but low ball dungeons too. Some people learn slower. and maybe just need a mentor and practice)

I think the obvious link between all of these is patience. If you make a ground rule that everyone be nice, patient, and help each other out, you should be fine. And if anyone can't abide, they shouldn't stay in the group.

There is nothing wrong with discussing high level dungeons, even using acronyms in such a chat, because if the attitude is set right, new players can be comfortable to ask questions about what is being discussed, including what acronyms mean etc.

I would totally love a Linkshell like this on Malboro.

I'm in a FC but there doesn't seem to be a lot of chatter in game when I'm on. Nice guys though when there has been! My buddy, who recruited me but doesn't play anymore, told me they were heavy on VoIP use and that's not really an option for me.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but it seems like there's a distinct lack of representation for Malboro on the forums. I don't even see much on the world forum. I've considered going to one of the other servers where there are lots of community advertisements on here but I'd kind of feel bad if I left because I have gotten help from them. I don't have real concrete roots on the server though.
