speed run, good or bad thing?

since the release of FF14 ARR, one of the most important trouble we did face (exept RMT and lag) are this... a few times the dungeon was tweeks for stop this... and still people do it.

first it was with Amdapor Keep in 13 minutes
after it was cm and praetorium in less of 20-25 minutes
now is Wanderer Palace in 12-15 minute

at the start it was because nothing was to gain from the monster, now, simply for gain time and do more in less time.

more annoying is the fact some class are not wanted like in the V1, because you lack good aoe for do the new speedrun from Wanderer Palace.
i was told early: "if you are not blm don't do Wanderer Palace"

i know i can make group or use DF. but i feel concerned by this sort of behavior more and more frequent that lead into the modification of the game.

Good thing. Speed runs are what makes grinding these same dungeons over and over again tolerable.

To each their own...I'd rather just play. If it just so happens to be a sr w/e if it's a group that does 1 pull at a time w/e. I don't care either way.

Good for experience players who need to farm tomestones fast, but very bad for new players.
Personally, I prefer speed run but I don't mind do it in normal way.

Good for: People who have done it 15 years worth of it.
Bad for: People who are new.
Doing it the long way constantly will make most of the people grinding go insane.

It's completely dependent on the party.

If they feel they are able, yes it's worth the effort.

I like speed runs, and I also don't mind killing everything if that's what people want to do. I'm not in such a big rush to get my gear to inconvenience people who'd rather do the whole dungeon.

I just go with the flow and heal.

Good for those forming their own groups outside of Duty Finder. If one cannot get in to some else's speed run, there is nothing stopping said person from forming their own group. Bad for those imposing "speed run" using the DF.

Seriously when you've gotta constantly run TWO dungeons for stuff it gets boring real fast.

The speed run is a good way to get over a bad mechanic created by SE: farming the same dungeons over and over again for gear that should only be able to be obtained through high end content.

I would have eliminated mythology, spread out philosophy to achievements/dungeons/certain fates/certain leves/gathering/crafting. I would have reduced the amount gained in dungeons and spread it out over the list above. This would have given people various ways to gather these tokens and would have reduced the necessity to do speed runs. At the end of the day, people want a balance of enjoyable content, with the right time to complete the content, and a reward that is commensurate with the challenge.

By eliminating mythology, you can then only obtain ilvl90 gear through coils. Coils loot is a reward for the pve player that can complete the hardest content in the game. If you are fully decked out in ilvl70 gear, you begin attempting coils and start getting ilvl90 gear there, or you can wait until tower comes out and get ilvl80 gear.

Right now, the system is broken.

I don't do speed runs, but I don't necessarily think they are bad for others to do. I do like that I don't feel "forced" to do them when queuing in the duty finder now though.

Speed runs can be good if it's content you've cleared once and want to repeat for the sake of rewards. It's not something anyone has the right to force on others, which is where it is a bad thing. Too many people want to make it a bad thing, though, which is non-conducive to a good community.

Let me play my game how I want

as long as its not breaking any rules and i'm killing the mobs as the game intended it then i'll SR all day everyday

If you're queuing via the Dungeon Finder, don't expect a speed-run. There's a good chance that at least one of the people you're matched with will be a first-timer. If you really want to speed-run that badly, then form your own group and knock yourself out. The only problem with speed-running is when people join a random DF group and then start b**ching because the rest of the team is either undergeared or wants to stop and smell the roses.

Personally, I like to kill everything that's directly between me and the boss. On an average WP or AK run I can earn ~3k gil just from the mobs.

I do prefer speed runs but I don't expect them in DF since often times there's at least 1 or 2 new players. Usually I'll go with a pre-made group if I want to rush through.

my question is more about the impact on the game balance.
let's be honest, speed run will always exist, but the develloper will try to reduce it.

we mustn't forget that the balance time/reward is a serious matter for them.

in this case we get WP in 12 minutes where people gather all the monster of a part of the dungeon and blast them with blm/brd. what they will think or do for reduce this? that the question we must ask.

Neither good, nor bad.

The only good or bad that comes of them is due to players and how they go about it.

Speed run = a method of gameplay.
Forced speed running = Being a douche about it.

I like speedruns, i dont like the people you get when shouting specifically for speedruns <.<

Good when done with the right people. Bad when done with very impressionable minds. And by "right people" I'm talking about the neutral crowd. Those that are fine with and without speed running. Those that understand they should form their own groups to speed run and will not hold it against a PUG to do things normally. Unfortunately for us, the bad people are the ones who are the most frequently found peers on these forums. Some of them don't even realize they fall into that category, which makes it all the more comedic and mock-able.

Neither, both have their place in the playerbase and neither are right or wrong. Find like-minded people for whichever type of run you want and run it.

I don't see a problem with people choosing to run a dungeon differently from the way I do. It doesn't affect me, and they're paying just as much to play this game as I am.

WP isn't really bugged like CM and AK was, meaning in WP you pull a ton of mobs and kill them all (for the most part). Killing stuff really fast isn't the same as skipping 75% of the instance. If you can speed through it on skill and not exploits its a really good thing.

For me it's great, not because it's fast but rather because I get to clear it on a timer. It's crazy fun to me to try and best my old times... Not so much fun just drifting through it the slow way.

No one is forcing you to speed run, they will always exist, even if you don't like it. You just don't have to be a part of them if you don't want to. Now in 1.0 when Speed running was mandatory for gear....That's where the issues came up that led to 1 tank, 1 whm, and 6 blm parties, because BLM was the most powerful AOE Dps, and everything was AOE. Until you hit AV and then all those BLM's switched to MNK for the final boss because monks were kings of that fight. This did happen, and it was required to do so if you wanted darklight gear, because to get it you needed to beat the dungeon under a certain amount of time.

Making speed runs mandatory is a horrible game design choice and should NEVER be done again. However that will not prevent people from doing them, which is perfectly fine because you don't have to play that way.
