Will we get new classes soon?

This isn't a speculation thread as it is more of a thing I hope the reps here can as the dev team.

In an early interview around the time Yoshida took over XIV Yoshida he stated until he works on the current classes he won't start work on anything new. Now fast forward to today and now we got information on changes are coming in the following months.

So the question is with the current classes/jobs getting fixed soon will we be seeing new classes added sometime this year? Currently the Musketeer Guild and Arcanist Guild are sitting there collection dust and there was a table somewhere about unused classes (Can't remember them off the top of my head except Fencer/Flayer). So it would be nice to hear word of if we'll be able to unlock these classes soon.

Anyway, just something I hope a rep can forward.

I'd think they would come with the new job system implementation. I think there was something about an enforcer using blunt objects?

Yeah that list, however until we get more info on the job system I'm not going to take that with a grain of salt anymore.

I think they need to add these new weapon classes unless they planned to implement just 6-7 jobs at first

so it's possibly no Samurai, Ninja, Musketeer, Bard, Dancer or even Thief (Dagger) in the first day of Job system appearance

We need 2-hand weapons! I want to use a 2-hand sword so badly lol

Edit: I forgot for a sec that Marauder has 2-hand axes but we need moooore :)

I want to see 2 handed wield and dual wield as a trait ability of Katana and Ninjablade class

must be epic and a kind of challenge

This is the main reason I'm staying away from speculation. Since unless they change the system where "Your weapon defines your role" I really don't see how the job system will work without a ton of complaining or some classes not having a branch.

Like I said, this is more of a shoutout for the reps than anything. Since I want ot know if we'll see new classes sometime this year.

After Yoshi-P's tenth letter we can assume all will be done for summer 2011. As for when exactly jobs are going to be introduced I will join your demand even though summer is a very fair 3 months counting time. I can only guess and speculate it will be around patch 1.20, then again, it can truly be even on late september. At least, and this is no speculation, it will sure be before autumn hehe.
As for the first set of jobs introduced, there won't be a bard or arcanist as of yet, since the weapons are to be introduced first, and they didn't mention additions to the armory system. So what will occur will mostly be this: Having an "Elementalist" aka Conjurer, a job based on elements can be introduced as Geomancer or Summoner, being the latter prolly not true since it means not only adding the job but also the summons, but it's still an example. Or having a Marauder as class and therefore an axe user, your current jobs to choose in summer would be Berserker or Viking.
Anyhow, this is again speculation based on how things are at the moment and the information given.
We can now only guess what jobs can be coming with current weapons/classes in our armory, and yes, there are daggers, so Thief is indeed an option, since it's also a classic and basic job ;)

gladiators use daggers but im for whatever as long as it leads to implimentation of summoner some how

I see a bunch of people getting the terminology jumbled up.
xiv classes are over arching skill sets based on a weapon. A job will be a defined skill set with in a host class.

With that being said. We will not be seeing any new classes until they have the battle and job systems sorted, this has been the response given on the issue already. At the earliest i would think sometime around fall.

I can't wait for new weapon classes! Nothing has been posted yet and I really hope the devs will eventually make a post regarding this. I have a feeling they won't be around until after these coming job/dungeon updates, but what I think we need the most at the moment in no particular order is:

-War Scythe class
-GKT and katana class (eventually learning a dual wield trait)
-pistol and rifle class
-single axe class (might have some beastmaster-esque abilities)
-Great sword class
-instrument class (lacking class that focuses on buffs currently imo, though the pistol rifle class could also have buffs)

If those weapon classes are added (which I think they should have been since launch), then I think with the job system that's coming, we could be looking at some amazing combinations!

I think.. at first implement of Job System we should have:

- Knight/Warrior (Sword/Axe)

- Dragooner (Spear)

- Monk (Knuckle)

- Hunter (Bow)

- White Mage (Staff/Rod)

- Black Mager (Staff/Rod)


I don't expect they'll add 10~15 jobs at the first release

How would dragoneer be different from lancer? Or Hunter from Archer? Should be a thief/rogue class IMO, like the original jobs from FF1 and FFXI.
