I've been seeing this said since Sept 30, 2010.
And it has. I don't see your point.
How many major patches has there been so far?
I don't understand people sometimes. If dissatisfied since 2010, why the heck to you still subject yourself to something as unenjoyable to prompt you to make a thread with such a topic. I mean. . . . I'm into a little masochism myself, don't get me wrong but, this sounds like a whooole different kind of a scenario (and we shall not get into that here).
Subjective - What got better in one area, another took a few years worth of backpeddling.
If we're to be honestly serious about this? Every patch since 1.19 was framework for 2.0 - Now we're finally getting an actual patch for 2.0...in december at some point.
FFXIV "ARR" has zero major patches, so yes it will only get better.
In fact FFXIV "ARR" is a lot better than 1.23 (1.0)
1) Better Servers ( increased playability)
2) Has a lot more content than 1.23 (1.0)
3) Redesigned maps
4) Classes lore is awesome
5) Chocobo fighting by yourside!
6) 5 times the dungeons that 1.0 had and more
Soon in 2.1
7) PvP
8) Housing
9) New Dungeon and 2 Hard mode of old dungeons ( with new map layout)
10) Crystal Tower
And other stuff we don't know about yet I'm sure.
Yes it has improved immensely.
Edit: Now that they don't have to focus on building 2 games at once, they can focus all their man power on 2.0. By 2 years, there should be at least 1 expansion, 8 Major Patches. We should have by then:
1) Ishgard ( Jeuno of FFXIV)
2) Ala Mhigo
3) Frontlines
4) Coliseum
5) Full Length of Crystal Tower
6) Full Length of Coil
7) Multiple Tiers of Relic weapon
8) Continuation and ending of FFXIV ARR Main storyline
9) Expansion Storyline
10) Sky or Sea from the Expansion ( we don't know which one yet)
11) Level cap rise ( Probably 70-75)
12) Myth cap will probably be gone by then
13) New content within those 8 patches ( perhaps something simular to Limbus/BCNM/Dynamis etc etc)<--- Guessing on this one
And probably other things we just don't know about yet
When you look ahead 2 years from now even if the subs drop to 300k ( Yoshi-P initial prediction). When 2 years come and go, people will slowly make their way back to a potentially awesome game.
I knew people liked to hate this game, but I didn't know people were willing to throwaway their credibility if they want to imply ARR hasn't improved upon 1.0 vanilla. Opinions are subjective yes, but there is a fine line between having your own opinion and being ignorant.. and being a troll.
From my / a raiders point of view:
Connection etc. still sucks
really? glad i didnt play 1.0 thenQuote:
2) Has a lot more content than 1.23 (1.0)
unimportantQuote:

myth cap, yet only one will prevail. the fastest one will be run till cap and then back
to doing nothing but logging in for coil raid. *Yawn*
good for casuals. totally unintresting for raiders by then most of the coil raidersQuote:
10) Crystal Tower
are fully lvl 90 geared from drops and myth.
useful to upgrade twinks eventually
there is just nothing to keep you going. at least for me there isnt.
i do my raids, wipe my ass on Twintania and go offline till the next raid evening.
Entropic, It basically sounds like this game is not made for you at all. just sayin' if you think nothing in this game nor what I mentioned is " Unimportant.
Also, not everyone has the mentality of doing nothing but endgame. The game is really fun personally, I feel Guildhests need to be slightly more rewarding, but I just finished 2 lvl 30 GH's. and they were fun :).
In the end it boils down to the individual person. Are you having fun or not?
Note on the above post: Trolling = "I disagree with what you wrote." No one here trolled - If anything the statement of people are "ignorant" because they don't share your same opinion or agree that ARR is absolute perfection (basically how it comes across when someone says ARR is vastly superior) is more so than people saying "no."
Let's be honest, ARR is well designed compared to the 2010 XIV released in September 2010, aka version 1.0, but vastly superior to version 1.23? It's more like it's a lot more streamlined by being designed with every system found in modern MMORPGs, so superior may not be the right word for it, it's more like it's a heck of a lot more playable. The whole "it'll get better" is pretty much what people were saying all through 1.0's beta phase and..almost every other MMO that came out the past 5 years.
Let's wait and see, ignorance is bliss but the reality of the situation is if ARR is a superior product, everyone would be playing it and have no legitimate complaints (lack of content is one of them, even Yoshi admits it) not just 1.5 million supposed active accounts.
That's the thing, a game could descend upon the heavens, be objectively considered as the best game of all time, and there would still be people complaining, it's just how people are, and I agree that they can feel that way, but their opinion definitely loses value.
Your criteria for ARR being a "superior product" is unreasonable and doesn't even apply to your statement, there's definitely more people playing ARR than 1.23, so with that you have an objective fact that ARR is better, but you don't have to agree with it. << That's a fairer example of gauging whether or not ARR is a superior product.
On this topic, as someone who played 1.0 on release, I enjoyed ARR a whole lot more than 1.0 and when you try to say no one would have a legit complaint if the game was good? Really... I have not read any complaints about my first 50 was a horrible experience etc. that at least is an improvement. Now I personally can wait for some tweaks to a game I am enjoying. The core that stays in the game will be the good patient players we want around anyway.
The game is great. The frequent lag spikes I'm still experiencing are game breaking though.
What I don't understand the expectations of those who complain about lack of content. Ok if your issue is you don't think class a is powerful enough that is something they can tweak, something doesn't give you enough gil or experience they can tweak it but if your complaint is not enough dungeons or quests well they can't just tweak it and they have already given you a time table so if its not good enough guess its too bad for you because no amount of complaining is going to create content they already are working on.
One thing you have to take into account with the forums and people complaining is that, truly, only about 5% of the people that play the game, if that, read and post on the forums. So you really can't take anything they say in regards to the entire playing community, the only thing you can honestly say with no reservations is that a lot of people are enjoying the game happily, otherwise the servers would be empty.
This is an example, people, of someone who has zero positive influence about the game. I mean, everything he/she listed you didn't give him/her a decent argument comeback you just gave him "No, it sucks. No. It sucks."
Constructive criticism, it just doesn't exits anymore.
however...
i agree with the battleground:o
@Pseudopsia omg the sig just killed me with cuteness XD
dudes please look at the thread tags when you see something like this
If you're not happy after three years, why are you still playing?
Did you play at 1.0 launch? Because I have a really hard time believing that anybody here would actually consider 1.00 of this game to be anywhere near as good as what we have now, much less "better." I know that nostalgia goggles are quite a thing, but do you remember the 2+ second menu delay involved in every single UI command? How it would take 5+ minutes to sell off your vendor trash? How finding anything on the market wards involved manually walking from retainer to retainer, targeting them, opening the system menu, selecting "Check", browsing their inventory, closing the menu, then repeating dozens of times? How it was pretty much impossible to reliably compare prices on anything? How there was literally nothing to do but levequests?
I can totally respect an opinion wherein someone doesn't like the style of the game today, but glossing over the huge number fundamental problems that the original game had is pretty crazy.
<<FF14 1.0>>
Game will be different at release! It's just beta
it's just 1.0, FFXI sucked at 1.0 too
<<FF14 A realm reborn>>
It's just alpha, wait for beta
It's just p1 beta, wait for p2
it's just p2 beta, wait for p3
It's just p3 beta, wait for p4
It's just p4 beta, wait for release
It's just early access, wait for release
The game just released, give it a month
It's only 1 month into the game, give it 2 months
It's only 2 months into the game, wait for 2.1
When will it end?
OP didn't specify either way. They just said they've been "waiting for it to get better" since the launch date of the original game. ARR wasn't even an thought then.
When you finally get the sense to step away from the game when you realize it's not for you.
All these people who still pay for this game but dislike it... LOL. Such mock-worthy peers we have.
If you were around for 1.0 you would know that they were maintaining 2 games. 1.0 and 2.0. In which 1.0 is being totally thrown away, for 2.0 when the time came (which it came).
1.0 had a terrible launch, and since they were maintaining 1.0 ( for the players that stuck through it) and Building FFXIV ARR (2.0), they really didn't have much time nor resources to deliver awesome content. The game went f2p for 1 year before turning on the subs at 1.20.
Just like any MMO when it's release (and yes 2.0 is a new release re-release whatever), the game needs time to grow and that's the factual truth. You don't like the game currently now? Unsub and wait 2 years ( or even 2-3 patches) when the game has enough content to provide to you.
You know what I say to what you said? Wait 2 years into FFXIV ARR life-cycle. Then you will see a huge difference in this game.
Edit: Also, if you are saying when will it get better from 1.0 till now ( 3 years) you should really think and say to yourself. Do I really like this game or not? Because in 3 years time and you still don't know AND your paying a sub for it.... (insert something here :/).

I don't know of many people who complained in FFXI at (NA...assuming RoZ) launch. The only "hate" back then was there was "too much" to do. I miss the time where it took months to hit level cap. I remember the first 100 crafters on the server, THAT took some actual dedication.
