DoT Effects & Current System (Summoner in Particular)- Feedback Appreciated

Experienced summoner here, currently working on turn 5 coil. Almost full ilvl 90 gear. Posting as a formal request to change the way DoT's work in this game and get some feedback from the player base.

I would much rather (at my own discretion) refresh my dots than have to deal with not being able to refresh over more powerful dots in fights and actually having to let it run out.

Scenario :

You have loaded Miasma 1, 2, Bio 1 , 2, with a potion active (or virus on boss etc or another CD) , you then go to refresh (and attempt to time the dot to refresh) with 1-2seconds remaining left on the existing dot . Ie. replacing refreshing bio 2 with bio 2.

Your refresh lands with 1 second remaining on the old bio 2- in this situation IMO, it SHOULD refresh. Instead because the game is made to hold hands of the casual dot inflicter by putting in a safety net that they cant refresh a less powerful version of a DoT spell. It DOES NOT refresh. Leading to a waste of significant mana which is PRECIOUS for summoners in particular and a WASTE of your cast time. This is a major issue with a primarily dot oriented damaging class.

Has this issue been identified? What does the public think, does the safety net put in place to not allow refresh of less-powerful dots lead to a better result than being able to refresh as you see fit regardless of power of dots? Let me know.

For this raider- the net dosnt even close to make up for the pain not being able to refresh my dots delivers over time to me mentally RL.

I wouldn't mind the safety net being lifted with 3 or less seconds left. That''d be pretty handy!

So you are mad that a system was put in place to make it harder for bads to screw up... yet complain that you screw up on a regular basis, but due to making it harder to screw up, it's causing your screw ups to punish you more, yet claim to be experienced? Just trying to get the story straight... you are complaining about making lifeeeasy for bads, but basically wanting to make life easier for yourself because you are bad. Do people think about what they post anymore?

I would not have posted this.. except for the fact that you went on a rant about catering to casual bads. The suggestion itself is not horrible.

I agree with you 100%. Im currently on Coil turn 4 and I burn a significant amount of mana even with contagion/bane.

Why not just shift your recast to one second later? I mean, the odds are pretty good that letting the dot drop for a fraction of a second is not going to be a dps loss.

I think more of what he's saying is that the time that each of the DoT's last doesn't really seem to roll too well with the recasting of said DoT's. They could have done it a little better, especially for a job that uses as many as summoner's do.

It works fine. I have no problem with it.

OP just needs to learn to play and adjust to this games DoT mechanics. It works this way to gurantee full duration gets the damage bonus, since the last tick can come anywhere from 2.9~ to .0~1s left on the timer. Time your casts better, OP.

Yea this isn't a catchall for "bads" as you say, it is a timing issue that you have to take into account.

What IS dumb is that while overwrite checks are checked as the spell ends, the debuff isn't applied until like .3-.5 seconds later.

That is really stupid.

You can shift it anyway you like occasionally you're going to have either server based instance lag , or if you're fighting multiple mobs and about to enter a certain mechanic phase of a fight you want to refresh early on another target (ie so you can burn unload when a demo drops in turn 4 for instance ) yet still have dots rolling finishing off a soldier . Im simply saying it would be easier to be able to refresh them as I see fit .

This is another reason why it's not always a consistent refresh ( such as if I were to always cast with a second remaining ) I find it glitches sometimes and still dosnt refresh . I agree with allowing a refresh of a less powerful dot with 2-5 seconds remaining would make it much less glitchy

Er well just sub 5 seconds in general
