This was not a setup. It was just invites to strangers to a FATE party in Coerthas Central Highlands. To our surprise, for every party invites sent out, we gained a Paladin+1.

I imagine many people are leveling tanks as alts for a faster way to get tomes. I know that is what I do. I play BLM as my main, but when I don't have FC or pre-made groups I will hop on PLD to run dungeons without a queue.
Where are the Warriors! Oh wait........
Thats a lot of PLDs though!
EDIT: No offense to Warriors! We love you too!
Now if only they were running dungeons instead of doing FATEs. Oh wait...doing dungeons is pretty much a waste of time when you want to level. My bad.
The reason is you are doing fate, in event sequence
1) People cry there is not enough tanks
2) Every dps hates DF timer, so they started leveling Tank
3) Everyone does fate to level up fast
4) Eveyone is now a Tank
I was trying to unlock dragoon, and i had a 8 tank group in aleport last night...
People leveling tanks up to 50 =/= more tanks pugging 50 content. Not to mention all the 1.0 players who have their 50 tanks hanging up like ornaments. There will always be a shortage of tanks in max level pug content.
Just an observation. As for why most people don't play their tanks with strangers when they get to 50... well, there are plenty of threads for that.
I think people don't play tank, because tanks are the first one to get blamed for others mistakes.
Healer overhealing and pulling hate, that's the tanks fault.
WHM casting regen before the tank pulls and gets hate, that's the tanks fault.
DD doing damage before the tank gets hate, that's the tanks fault.
BRD not using quelling strike and pulling hate, that's the tanks fault.
DDs not hitting the marked mobs, that's the tanks fault too.
...need I go on?
Had that as well levelling PLD a month back, nearly every party was at least 4 paladins, record being 7 as yours. Warriors? Think I saw one once.
All of those plds are warriors who cannot progress through coil because their healers hate them.
It's not just the DPS, I always planned on leveling a Tank, but when I got my Conjurer to 50 and couldn't find groups for lack of tanks I realized I needed to prioritize my tank-class.
Of course since I level it exclusively in dungeons I guess I'm part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
Now the question is: How many of those people will actually play those tanks at level 50, and for how long?
Most of them wont stay for long after they recognice that tanking isn't as easy as dpsing and after getting oneshotted a few times because they dont evade and lacking situational awarness the will go back to dps. Some of them will stay and move to guildgroups after the first pugs and maybe learn something from this expierience.
DF Titan yesterday and told the warrior to tank after it was clear we will never will made it past hearth phase (best try 40% left) and only get hit once by bad placed weights and never get hit by landslide/bombs where dps was failing left and right... even my tries with dps showed that most dps classes are easy going and not even as unforgiving like tanking.
Tanking is fun. I'm leveling a PLD tank alt (I'll have WAR AF2,AF3... on Hiir and PLD AF2,AF3 on my Alt) and I'm having a blast on PLD.
It plays a lot differently from WAR, due to the fact that every boss I'm trying to see just what Debuffs I can put on it, and I'm finding out the limits of flash (and the limits of my patience for Bane-happy DF SMNs). I'm also finding out how wasted Cover is on most PLD. Cover is wonderful.
People don't use it enough.
I am a 24 GLD and I only level in dungeons...but then again my goal's are different it would seem. I want that plundered/cavaliers gear :) and even the doctore's uglyness.
But any who sometime in the future, SE has already stated that doing dungeons will be better exp than Fates :) so hopefully that will encourage people to do dungeons again. Especially at those level's 30-49! lol those are the fastest for me as tank/whm to get into dungeons :)
I remember my northern Thanalan fate party when I was grinding DRG. I would invite anyone who wanted in a fate party. Most of the time we had 4 tanks, lot of them were warriors. At one point we had 5 tanks, however one of them was DC.
I'm on Excalibur Server and I leveled PLD over the last week. Sat And Sun I was out there and almost every person I invited was PLD or WAR no joke. So there should be about 30+ more new tanks from Excalibur.
Poor warriors, nobody loves them. =(
I'm guessing there are also a lot of groups that don't want any tanks in their FATE party. That's probably also a reason why they all get stacked in one party, not because there are a lot of them.
i love tanking but all i hear is basic " ur shit, you can't hold hate, learn ur class bla bla.. i can go one" so its not really a motivation to be a tanker.
Warrior is fun compare to paladin to be honestly.
No you don't.

I was leveling LNC, but when I noticed the lack of tanks, I changed myself ;p so this seems to be the case with many people.
Of the 8 people in our static BCB, we have 2 Main Tanks, Myself and a Paladin buddy. And we have 3 more people in the group with a 50 paladin, and two of those are in full Darklight. Our Drg has a 50 blm in full vanya so he can BLM it up on turn 4. Our Healer is WHM, PLD, or BLM. Basically everyone in the group has 2 or 3 50's.
In short, everyone and their mother is leveling or has leveled a tank for fast dungeon runs. But 9 out of 10 of those don't use the DF. The problem isn't a shortage of tanks, the problem is people avoiding the duty finder like the plague.
I only EVER use the DF if it's 4 AM and I logged in to do a WP and go back to sleep so I make myth cap, which I've done once in 3 weeks.
My BCB Group loves me on Warrior. But I have 4 Pieces of IL 90 and Full DL everywhere else with Relic. I OT on turn 1 and 2 with no problems at all. In fact I generally stay up longer than the PLD and am the last tank to die. Turn 4 wise, I pop vengeance and overpower and I can hold the adds through 2 brd and 2 blm aoe down poors.
Warrior's are fine in BCB imo. The problem is that so many warriors aren't very good and people become biased towards them overall and no one wants to run with them. I actually had a group before my static say no thanks because I was a war when they were looking for tank. I got in a static the next day and pst'd them and their like were on turn 1 wiping, ah cool, I'm a war and we are on turn 4 today... he's like "... but you a war..." 'AND?'.
War is fine, PLD and War works well together in BCB.
The ADS is the only OT Tank check in BCB and I tank that with no problem. Turn 1 is NP as well. Turn 3 is trash, Turn 4 I'm the Add OT and I hold those better than a PLD and a PLD gets the dreadnaught.
The only real problem I've seen with Warrior in BCB so far is the ADS because you need 2 silences, and that's with 0 mistakes, so you need 3 silences to allow for 1 mistake. But we run it with 2 brds and a pld atm so it works out well with me on War.
Cover is great in the right situations; the main problem with it is its range. If you're in an encounter where you have to keep whatever it is you're tanking in one spot, your ability to use Cover is primarily determined by how close your desired target feels like standing to you.
It's not the most optimal way to gain experience points, but it is the best way to gain party experience. I've run every dungeon I possible can on my Gladiator (up to 26) and I think doing dungeons is a lot more educational towards playing your class rather than spamming Shield Lob and Flash all the time in FATEs.
I grouped with a Paladin once in I believe it was Haukke Manor where he ONLY spammed Rage of Halone. Didn't combo into it or anything. Needless to say, his hate generation was pretty poor, nor could he keep threat on multiple mobs very well either.
Yeah it requires some cooperation from the people targeted. I ran cutters Cry on my mule and the WHM kept getting hate on adds for Myrmidon Princess. After the second wipe, I said "run to me when you get hate." He was like "Yeah but the Boss...! ;______;" I said "Just do it okay!" He did it and was like "Oh."
Just because I don't have hate doesn't mean my WHMs have to die. I love this so much about the PLD. ^___^
Only thing I ask for the tanks that level through FATE only, before you join end game dungeons, please practice a little, just a little. I know there are instant good tanks out there, but also seen ppl who can't keep hate rotation going at all (pointing finger at my friend lol).
Also to the DPS, healers that may get together with these fresh new 50 tanks, be nice to them. If they are doing something wrong give them tips, not bash them and make them put away their tank gear away forever.
@Hiir I'm lucky, wife = WHM so when she gets hate I tell her to get right up to me and I can cover :p
I have cover set on macro with <mo> so it's easier to use than actually targetting the player. Kinda helps a bit.
Dungeons are fine for Exp, if people stopped skipping every single trash pack they could on the way to the bosses ...
Maybe after the 2.1 patch, we will get to see a full of team of Warriors instead? Lol.
Hopefully 2.1 will just give freedom to players and let them play whatever Job they want without worrying not so much about viability, but of the public perception of their job's viability.
These days when doing duties I queue as DPS; there's so many healers now the queue for heals is just as long as DPS
Warriors are wonderful, i level one right now - in dungeons.
