AF/AF0 = Quest Rewards (iLvL 50)
AF1 = Allagan Tomestone of Mythology Purchased (iLvL 90)
AF2 = New set revealed recently in a live letter (iLvL ??)
also, there is no plus system for Artifact Armor yet, so really try to avoid saying "AF+1" or "AF+2"

We needed a thread for this?
Ever thought it could be a PvP set?
Nobody is going to call the tome set AF1, that's probably more confusing than the non-standard system we're dealing with now. May as well just stick with the +1 in that case. I used to call it AF2, myself. Personally I prefer "myth gear" or "relic armor". And if we're being honest, it probably makes the most sense now to actually keep it AF, AF+1, AF2.
I really wish Square-Enix would have a community rep post a response breaking down exactly what they call the sets and end this inane nonsense. Incidentally I just stuck with the FFXI progress and called it relic armor.
I've been calling it AF+1, Mythos AF, Myth AF, AF2 .... I guess I look silly. One thing I know, though, is I don't care if I do >:3 Hell, I'ma call it Bubblegum Armour next!
I call it by it's name. You people make the silliest things such a huge issue. While we're freaking out, the grass looks horrible.
honestly, i've been calling it AF2 this whole time (the myth gear). Unless they say otherwise...i'll probably keep calling it AF2 and that next set of artifact gear AF3. It just makes sense that way to me.
Well, considering we don't have AF2 yet (latest Live Letter pics of the next dragoon armor clearly had AF2 on it) calling anything we have now AF2 would be... silly. I call them AF and AF+1 with the non-AF gear being Relic or Mythic. But I'm an old XI player so that's a given that I'd call it what I do.
Call mythology gear AF 1.5
Isn't the JSE you buy Myth stones "relic" gear? Atleast it shares it's names with relic gear from FFXI.
Call it the Hero set, since that is what SE calls it according to the jewelry.
Maybe silly, but how do we not know AF2 as shown in the video isn't ilv80 gear drops from CT? And that the current myth gear is relic and above it?
The little AF2 written next to the name? http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/b...20131022_8.jpg
When the current i90 AF sets were data mined from the Benchmark right before Phase 4 (for those of us that remember) they were all listed as AF+1. Exact same name as AF but with a +1 next to it, Gallant Surcoat +1, etc.
So yeah. AF+1.
You guys can call it whatever you want, but AF1.5 is probably the most ridiculous. I'm guessing the AF1.5 people have never played FFXI, because that set of armor simply does not exist.
In FFXI we have AF, which you can then upgrade to AF+1 (thus AF+1 makes perfect sense in 14).
Then there is relic armor, which people often call AF2. Relic armor can also be upgraded to relic+1 or AF2+1, and relic+2 or AF2+2.
Then there is empyrean armor, which people often call AF3. This can be upgraded to +1 and +2 as well.
Thus, calling it AF+1 or even relic makes sense at this point. For the 'most' part, relic used the same model as AF, and just different coloring, which is exactly how the mythology gear looks. Basically, AF1.5 (lol) does not exist. Quit using it.
And before people say that this game isn't FFXI, well, in many things it is, and one of those things is naming. There are countless abilities, names, etc that they've reused from FFXI. Considering that they are calling the new gear AF2, it's pretty clear they are sticking to the same gear naming as well.
Was there a need to make another thread on this topic?

This thread right here wants a word with you...
I'm laughing at how someone on these forums called me a noob or someone who has never played FFXI because I called the currency armor AF +1.
just call it the easy way 1 2 3 4 5....
AF1 - from job quests
AF2 - from myth tomes shop
AF3 - the new set
They will just update the current AF2 models (yes, the Mythology set), because no one likes them.
I always thought of the Myth set as AF2 but as Yoshi had "AF2" on the sketches of the new armour I'm going to now assume the Myth set is AF+1 (It makes sense as the Myth set is the same design of the standard Artifact gear just with upgraded stats, like the Relic weapons and +1 Relic weapons)
I call it Relic armor, and no amount of "agree with me or you look dumb" threads will ever change that. that is what i am used to from FFXI and that is the name i am sticking to.
It is just he said. You are misunderstanding >_>
What we will get is updated design of our current AF2 for those we saw in the live letter. I can guess they hadn't time to polish and/or design the AF2 in time so went with some neon like colour and a part with different colour due the tight time they had. Now since game was released and they could work more relaxed and adding more stuff to patch 2.1 they took the opportunity to put the design they really wanted from start.
Or they're going to continue with the myth system where(like other mmos) when a new higher tier raid comes out they make a new higher tier of badge/point gear you can buy along with it. The af2 they showed will(99% sure) follow that formula and will be for myth or a new tomestone, they are not remodeling the current myth gear, they are adding an entirely new set to go along with the higher tier of coil in 2.2.
They already confirmed af2 to be for 2.2 though, which is after Crystal Tower starts with it's first wing. 2.2 will be a new set in Coil, which they've already shown new allagan to go along with it. Af2 will either be new myth/currency items or it will be token drops, which if it were token drops they would have started with tokens for the first tier also(which they didn't).
It's extremely common in bigger name mmos to have tiers of content with patches and when a higher tier comes out so too does a higher tier of currency gear that can be bought off a vendor. If anyone is hoping for this to wind up being anything like 11 or 1.0 then that thought can be gotten rid of when it's clear as day how they want gear progression to be in this even with the minimal amount of content currently in. Nothing gets people subbed the longest like a currency grind that is on a weekly timer, people want that better gear and companies know a weekly timer will keep people logging in week after week if for nothing more than to cap for the week. With the current endgame how it is if there wasn't a cap then what reason would there be to login past having all the myth gear on your character? No reason to do coil when the loot is the same ilvl, no reason to do dungeons when you already have the best gear, no reason to login when you've literally beaten the game and have the best of the best items.
