Duty Finder & Soloing

This post is going to be negative. If you're against that, stop reading here.

I am a level 50 black mage and I just sat around for more than 68 minutes waiting for "Haukke Manor". I finally got a full group and right as the screen to "Commence" popped up, the game froze briefly (less than a minute). When it unfroze, I got a message that my participation could not be confirmed and I was withdrawn ... I've now been waiting another 13 minutes.

Why isn't there an option to solo dungeons? What made SE decide that no solo option was the best course of action? What about people who enjoy soloing lower level dungeons just for fun? Is there any solo content in this game anywhere (in terms of dungeons or repeatable things that aren't just grinding dodos out in a field) or is it all forced parties (i.e. duty finder)?

In FFXI, I could solo sky on my own ... but in FFXI I can't solo a level 28 dungeon as a level 50 black mage ...

They did say a long time ago that eventually once older content became more obsolete they would start allowing us to solo/duo older dungeons.

bad idea . MMO should be group game .

I understand the issue but ultimately I think it is a good idea. This way it will take a lvl capped tank a significant deal of their time to carry a lowbie through the story dungeons. He can probably not do it alone even. Making you actually having to play the game to complete it.

I agree. Theres plenty of ff games out there. Would u go to a club full of people dancing together and just dance in the corner by yourself?

It's a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

I know many people like to Solo and maybe a solo dungeon could be beneficial but it's a multiplayer. You kinda have to play with other players. Join an active FC or LS if you don't want to wait for DF.

I am in a FC and LS and have help plenty of times, but there are times where I need to use DF, but that was less the point.

Part of the point was that on occasion, I'm up early in the morning, the others (in my time zone) aren't awake, and I'd like to go blow up some mobs, but not just random fluff bunnies in a field. "Running a dungeon" is more fun than just blowing up bunnies in a field. It was more a comment on the fact that there is -NO- option for solo'ing.

That also extends to NMs. I want to kill a lot of the NMs I've seen around, but they're in FATEs and it will level sync ... and I can pretty much guess that means either 1) they won't be solo'able or 2) they'll be solo'able, but they're as pointless as the field bunnies.

I know it's an MMO and I like doing things in groups. That's how FF has been. Still, there should be some options for some solo content. After all, there were plenty of times in the FF series where a single character had to go out on their own.

and back to OP who said you could solo sky on blm in ffxi... unless you were talking abt solo-ing elementals, solo-ing sky and gods were not possible until much much later. late roz and early cop, you still needed at least a 15-man alliance to clear sky.

OP isn't asking for them to add solo content simply allow us to enter dungeons alone. We'll figure out how to beat it once we are inside. MMO's are about playing with people sure. But for most people that means friends/guildmates not gen.pop folks.

While I fully support the desire to be able to solo dungeons the lack of any such option probably has more to do with multiple instance capacity issues rather than any particular S-E party play ethos.

And too many people think that MMOs = Everyone who plays must have half a dozen people that play with them every second they're logged on. So, what's your point?

I didn't say I was solo'ing sky as black mage in ffxi, but I see the confusion. I solo'ed in ffxi as red mage. Solo'ing sky and gods were quite possible back before cap was raised above 75. I also didn't say I cleared sky (as in kirin), just that I solo'ed there more than the elementals.



Edit: The 1000 character maximum is annoying ...

Anyway, I agree with both sides. It's an mmo, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for a solo dungeon. That said, I too sometimes find myself short on FC buddies since I have an odd schedule and also have a big mix of NA and EU (many of which I don't share a common language with) and would sometimes like to something challenging like a dungeon or primal, without relying on DF. It would be cool if they had solo primal fights especially. Not for the same rewards, hell I wouldn't care if I got anything more than a leve's worth of Xperia and/or gil to cover repairs. It would be a great challenge. Maybe they will bring back Maat but as an optional fight, that could be a fun challenge.

But again I don't think they need to add solo anything just let us enter the dungeon without a full party. I know WP would be beatable with a SMN and WHM. Hell probably with a SMN solo.

Maat was a fun fight (especially as RDM)! Also, solo'ing dungeons or primals. Solo'ing Summons in FFXI -> Solo'ing Primals in FFXIV. They have different difficulties with corresponding rewards, so it doesn't seem like it would be too much of a challenge to add in a "Solo Mode" where the only real point is a fun challenge. I mean, there are Fates that have "unique" mobs to them ... is there any real point to them other than the challenge/fill out content?

What Warrior of Light is going to go "No, I cannot clear this dungeon of bats. My friends aren't here! How will I kill these creatures!" and no Warrior of Light is going to go "Well, I want to help clear this town of rats, but these rats are weaker than I am. Let me strip down and fight with my bare hands!"
