Why would I want to switch Grand Companies?

Are there any benefits?

I've heared people say you lose bardings etc, so I'm not sure what the point is.

Yeah i maxed Maelstrom so I'm not sure why I'd want to switch really

I don't mind achievements in this game much so I probably won't switch :/

4 other pets, 2 per Grand Company

You get tired of one color scheme and want another for the armors/weapons, I guess.

Yeah I've maxed Maelstrom. When I start to level my next class I'm switching to immortal flames, this way i'll have a reason to use all those seals i'll be accruing, I'll also have another hunting log to complete with experience and extra seals, and i'll have another barding set and two new pets to get.

Gear.

Back in 1.xx, Grand Company gear wasn't completely worthless, and the gear from different Grand Companies was pretty good depending on your Job. As such, people who wanted to maximize their gear wanted gear from different Grand Companies and requested a method to switch be in 2.0. SE obliged and decided to make Grand Company gear pretty damn worthless at the same time, because trollface.jpg I guess...

Now? Like everyone said, minions and achievements... Hopefully when new ranks are introduced there might be some better gear though...

I'm slowly working my way through each one to collect the barding/pets, even if I can't even use the barding while not with that specific GC.

The weird part is that while you can't equip barding from a GC you're not with, your chocobo will still be wearing it until you take it off.

If that's the case I won't unequip my maelstrom barding while working on buying all the immortal flames barding because it'd be fun running around in the IF uniform with the maelstrom barding.

I think a better title for this thread would be "Why would I want to leave The Maelstrom?"

Maelstrom does indeed have the best looking uniform.

An alternative to your suggestion, "Why would I want to look like a banana?"

I'm doing it for he achievements. And the pets.

You keep your ranks, and you keep your seals. I dunno about barding yet, but I'm assuming that is also frozen.

You can change GCs every 30 days (or something like that), so it's not like it's so hard to go back to your original one if you want. I'm just getting this over with so I can be back in my original GC for PVP.

first you got to reach max rank at your gc, second lieutenant. Then you're told by your gc that youre now allowed to switch. Then go to another gc and talk to the npcs
