[Dev1072] Abolition of Physical levels.

"Abolish physical levels and experience points and shift character development to class rank "

So from the letter from the producer and the in development thread it seems as if it has already been decided to forgo physical levels altogether? It seems like it, but can we get a confirmation as it is going to happen or if it still being considered?

I know the majority (over half) of people that responded to the poll wouldn't mind leaving physical levels behind. I for one would like to see them gone and just have your normal class levels.

it's not like they will remove everything of it, they just going to move attributes allotment from Physical Level to Class Rank instead and that's awesome! I can change to other class at anytime because attributes are separate for each class

Well now that I looked at it again, there really is no way to see it besides it being confirmed that physical levels will be gone. "Abolish physical levels and experience points and shift character development to class rank" is under Current tasks and will be implemented along with the physical bonus revision. So it seems they will be gone for sure.

yes i like this change for sure,now u can change to different classes faster and also if they remove action points that will be more awesome because i would like to choose whatever skills/spells i have depends on the situation.

I don't think they gonna remove action points, they're going to make them cost more point when you want to use cross-class abilities because they want to make class more uniqueness

Gets my vote. It was only good for getting stat points anyway, which are being re-assigned into the class element. Having two separate levels was just confusing and superfluous. Good change.

Goodbye and good riddance to it.

As long as I have COMPLETE control of my stat points,physical level is not needed.

I'm actually torn over this, on the one hand it'd be cool to totally control it (ditch HP and become the ultimate black mage glass cannon!!!), but it might be better for them to guide people at least a bit.

That, or they could have an option to auto-assign points on level up. Might be a bit too clever for them though.

This. So much.
The beauty is being able to control your stats is to make your own character.
If anything, noobs should be taught what each stat means, so as to make their own decision.

it's not going to bother me much at all if it will be taken out. i really didn't see the point in a ranklvl and a pyshical lvl. and Hito, i think i remember you from beta!! We used to talk in a chat with a few others Murdock and Cruxis i think? i don't remember the rest. unless i'm thinking of someone else, lol

I think having a generalized set of stats as a foundation is a good thing. You're still free to adjust your stats, saying it's dumbed down is silly as eventually everyone will modify their own stats. No reason to make it absolutely necessary for beginners to master right off the bat, especially if combat becomes more challenging.

As Yoshida-san said, and the majority voted for, there will still be "with optional attribute point allotment."

So it's only partial movement of Attribute Points with some customization.

This is a good thing.

The current system is horrible. Being able to Reassign 200+ Points has ruined any meaningful Stat Bonuses on our Weapons and Armor. You can move HUNDREDS of points around right now, do you think the +5 STR Ring is really going to make a difference? (it doesn't)

The current system has marginalized all equipment bonuses, and wastes players' precious time. Does anyone enjoy hitting "Reassign Points" waiting 2 - 3 hours, "Reassign Points" waiting 2 - 3 more hours, "Reassign Points" again, to finally reclaim enough points to shift from a Rank 50 Gladiator to Rank 50 Conjurer?

Or wait, sorry, you want to grind Alchemist for a bit, oops, you need to max your INT for your Main Hand Tool, OK, back to Reassign Points... 1 day later (after Reassigning forever), click "+" button hundreds of times to reassign whatever you need to, etc.

Good riddance.

They are going to have less attribute points that you can assign by ranking up, and increase the attribute points on all exsisting gear, so that R45 chest piece you have will have maybe 15 dex instead of 6.

That about sums up my experience. Grind Archer, re-allocate points, grind Conjurer, re-allocate points, grind Weaver. Get's kind of old.

Give this guy a cookie. IF you think the current point allotment is good, think twice and read this post a couple more times.

I'm 50/50 about this, a lot of crafting work went into the phys level, even though crafting phy exp was /hax. Then again, they never said they would make classes separately have point allocation, they just said they would give us points based upon leveling up our ranks. If the were to give us point allocations based upon every class, which sounds complicated for them, that would be awesome. Switching between jobs wouldn't be so bad, and you would have the stats appropriate for the rank you are when you switch to that class. But then again I'll have to wait and see, they said stats would be more effective, if they really work and I can tell a difference they can give me any system.

glad to see it go. physical level has been about as useful as a hd t.v to a blind person since testing started. With more potent stats we will finally be more then the sum of our equipment when it comes to the underlying math magic. Not to mention the naturally raising stats will make those guild mark buy able stat swaps really useful. Time to get cranking on getting enough marks to get the mage to melee swaps i guess.

Like so many systems in FF14, Physical Level and attributes just didn't seem to work properly, or were designed poorly, or were just way out of balance. Being able to add 50 or more to a trait and seeing minimal difference made no sense, and worse, made the much smaller bonuses on gear and food completely worthless.

When SE was shocked that we preferred something that made more sense, I had this sinking feeling and thought, "oh, god, they really don't have a clue how broken it is." I don't mind at all that it's going away as long as what replaces it seems to work properly.

I am also very excited for Physical Levels/Fatigue to be out the window. =D

That IS everything from physical levels, I always found it useless tbh and I'm glad its being handled this way. I hope they also rename Ranks to Levels but I don't see it happening nor do I care much but I think Level is more appropriate that Rank.

People seem to be forgetting that how many points you have available to allocate are determined by your physical level. Currently, being a high physical rank gives you a bit of a leg up when working on a low-rank class. After this change goes into effect, that won't be the case.

In a way, having other classes at high rank already gives you a leg-up since you can play lower rank classes with better gear. But you'll gain more having a separate attribute pool for each higher rank class than whatever would be lost from not having them in lower rank classes.

The Development Team didn't actually state that each class is going to have separate stats. That could be the case, but there are other alternatives. Below is a link to one of them.

Perhaps initial point allocation will tie into your current class and will magically reassign themselves for a new class. For instance: A pugilist will level to say 20. His stats will focus on STR, DEX, and VIT as he levels. After rank 20 he wants to level a different class so he changes to Conj. His stats stay the same. Point reallocation was never said to be removed. In order to reallocate points to something befitting a conjurer he goes to the conj. guild and requests for point reassignment. The amount of points able to be redistributed may be based upon the new class' rank.

A rank 20 pug will have to slowly change points over time as he ranks up in order to optimize his new class, or just level it as is until he learns the spells he desires from conj.

This method retains the "boost in power" a seasoned character will receive upon changing classes. It also adds in that time sink for point reallocation- primarily, if you wish to optimize your points you have to return to your class guild in order to move those points. This is a more organic timesink than just waiting 3 hours to move some points. If you're hardcore about it, you'll go back after every rank up, if you're casual you can wait until the end of a leveling session to redistribute points.

If our character in question attains rank 20 as a conjurer and matches his current highest rank, he will then continue to gain points focused at whatever job he is currently leveling beyond 20. This does a few things. It would allow players to play with stats as you bounce from job to job, you could essentially keep balanced stats if you level a DoW and a DoM simultaneously and only redistribute a certain amount of your points. You could create your incredibly noobish underpowered character if you please, or you could work with the system to promote optimization.

Honestly, I don't see any other way to implement the abolition of physical levels and point allocation without having a way to still be other classes. If they are charging per-character slot I don't want to have to pay for more just to have a caster and a crafter and a melee character. That is just trying to take our monies and I'm not cool with that. We will be able to reallocate points (somehow, probably similar to the instance stated above) we will be able to maintain a bit of our power when switching to lower rank jobs, and the system will be better than the current implementation. Mark my words.

Edit: I also forsee job level in addition to class rank. So we will still have two things to level up.

Battle Attribute Allotment

When it comes to battle, class rank should, by logic, be more important than physical level. The reality of the situation, however, is that attribute point allotment is dependent upon physical level, something that is causing complications in our endeavor to improve the battle system.

In the recent battle poll (thanks to all who participated), we learned that a considerable number of players would be willing to forgo physical levels, but wanted to retain the ability to customize characters through attribute allotment. Armed with this knowledge, we proceeded to formulate the optimal solution.

The decision: attribute point allotment will no longer accompany gains in physical level, and will instead occur when characters rise in class rank. Although the amount in frequency of points awarded will be lower than previously, players will find that each point will have a more profound effect.


What I want to know from the DEVs with this last update about Point Allocations is they have not confirm if is going to be per class or still going to be a single location. The way SE makes it sounds to be just one location and you get points per lv you get on each class. So if you want max points you have to LV all of the classes for it. Have anyone seen a confirmation from a DEV. about it.

It really only matters when you're below rank 20. Through those levels, you'd be able to make much more SP with a high physical level as opposed to a low one. After that, the advantage doesn't really show as much. Then as has been stated, stat points being separate from classes becomes a major inconvenience at the high ranks.

Besides getting from rank 1 to 20 in the current game is very easy. A full cycle of leves and some behest thrown in will get that done in a day.
