Monk Improvements

I know this has been posted a million times already but i just wanted to make my own thread

So here is my suggestions to improve monk

1. Deduce Shoulder Tackle recast time to 60 seconds and remove the distance requirement to give us a solid stun move and way of closing the distance to start dps when less than 10 yalms but still an annoying distance away.

2.Increase the duration of greased lightning to 30 seconds and function how it does now, thats all i ask of greased lightning, i want to be able to make it come one group of mobs in a dungeon to the next without starting over from 0.

3. Please change haymaker into a move that instead of requiring a dodged attack, make it so that it can be used at the cost of 1-3 stacks of greased lightning, similar to wrath on warrior. With that said please increase the damage to a potency of 250, it would like to have spike damage on monk every now and again but also gives a value judgement so it is not over powered in my opinion.

2: I wouldn't mind the 12s if only 1 stack fell off every 12s instead of all 3.
3: Interesting idea but then I don't think it would be a cross class ability anymore (not that I know of many people that use it).

Me like.

1. Only agree with range requirement

2. 30sec too long and 2-3 sec increase MAX but not rly needed

3. No need. Actually yes but bit as diffrent. Remove dodge shit make it off global emnity reduction skill ty. Have to stop dpsing all the time due getting overaggro.

1. Reduce to 30s, no stun OR no range requirement.
2. No. You might as well just say "Grease Lightning has been turned into a passive trait that increases monk damage by 21% and attack speed by 15%." GL3 is not passive for a reason. Monks do amazing damage overall even with GL falling off sometimes, the devs should just balance around that (which it seems they've done).
3. I like Neko_Shiroyasha's idea better. Or replace it with a range attack of low potency.

The only major tweak to the monk I' feel we really need is to increase Twin Snakes buff by 2-4 seconds so we can always comfortably use True Strike.

1. I'd like a change to it, as of now it's pretty much lackluster with it's current CD...
2. No, it should stay as it is. It's what makes or breaks a monk.
3. Yes, currently this skill is completly useless in any endgame sitiation I can think of.

But you can do that already when you hit 491 Skill Speed.

1. Allyrion made a good point, regarding shoulder tackle and i agree on the grounds that we already have a stun move and dont need 2, 30 seconds, 0 range and no stun sounds like the most usable and balanced that it could be.
2. my point of the duration increase for GL is that we are the only physical dps that has to bring up its dps capabilities to their average level incarnation at the start of many battles but perhaps 30 seconds is a bit excessive. 18-20 seconds i would compromise would be reasonable amount of time.
3. Haymaker because the reality point of it, a haymaker punch is one you build up to (build GL) and put all your energy into (expending GL) and hit as hard as you can. If they want a meh attack that causes slow call it body punch or sapping punch so it makes sense. I want people to actually see our damage potential, monks get a bad name because not everyone can see the damage we do because its not spike, and a single strong attack that expends all our GL would fix that.

I don't even care about the closer. All I want is an ability that's on a 30/40s CD that gives you 1 stack of GL.

I would actually really welcome a ranged ability like Chi-Blast on a long CD that refreshes our GL stack.

I would love a ranged attack and an enmity reducing ability, personally.

Like many i spam AK for mytho. And i agree that running between mobs no matter how fast you are, will drop GL. Yes i agree GL3 should not be an ability that is full timed as its insanely powerful, however i feel rather than extending the duration of GL past 12 seconds, make it so only 1 stack drops. That way essentially you have 36 seconds before complete loss of GL. That in it self would fix this issue totally, as most will be on either GL1 or GL2 before they reach the next mob, most likely GL2 if a speed run (as should be the case).

This would allow Monks to maintain a good level of dps while still having to work towards it.

Hell id be happy for them to reduce GL to 10 seconds if they could incorporate this.....

Regarding people who want haymaker changed. I suspect haymaker's purpose isn't well suited to monk persay, but we will see it used more often when Pugilist gets another job that isn't Monk. I'm pretty sure it will be some kind of evasion tank that utilizes dodge to it's advantage and having a slow built into their on dodge proc move will help them tremendously in tanking. I think SE knows what they have planned and why Pugilist has their ability as it is right now.

That aside. I DO so very much love the idea of getting Chi Blast as a ranged CD move. But I think it should be a short CD, and consume GL stacks for huge damage. It makes sense right? Just like OP was saying. Build up stacks. And in between stuff you know you're going to drop stacks right? Shoot a ball of energy for damage!

On another note. Make Shoulder tackle give you 1 GL stack. It would refresh stacks, and allow you to retain GL3 with a quick way that is already there. Take away the stun, give stacks. Drop the CD to 45-60 seconds.

2. Tell your tank to pull faster.

3. Use Featherfoot and you will get to use Haymaker on things that use melee AOE or cleaves. I use Haymaker on Garuda, in coil, and even on Titan on occasion. It's also a fantastic skill while soloing.

Not sure if you're just trolling or just stupid. Of course shoulder tackle is useful, but 120 second CD is stupid. It's insanely long for what it's design is. In 1.23. it WAS a 45 second CD. What does that tell you?

You can't keep GL3 up in between pulls, period. You can't even keep Gl3 up in between titan's geocrush. 12 second duration doesn't mean you have 12 seconds to refresh. A typical GCD of a monk with GL3 is 2 seconds. possibly 1.95. This is still roughly 2 seconds per hit and you need to hit stage 1, stage 2, and stage 3 combos. This is 6 seconds. That leaves you 6 seconds to be able to refresh GL3 in the most favorable of conditions. This doesnt' cound if you pop touch of death or any thing else (like haymaker). It doesn't work bro, I tried it and I'm a damn good monk.

Not going to debate haymaker cause I like it and use it a lot.

my personnal wishes would be :

1) Shoulder tackle with 30 sec CD, 1 sec stun (unable to use it at melee range)
2) GL doesn't desappear completly but loose 1 stack if no combo is looped in less than 12 sec
3) I fking hope they ll get rid off the flank/back atack dmg enhancement for pvp(when it will come), in pve it s alright.... but can u imagine having to use full combo rotation with positionning in pvp? do they want monk to ask nicely to their target to not move too much during the fight? xD

"I m a monk so please don't move, don't use skills, and let me sit on ur flank peacefully while i do my combo k?"

Haymaker is fine as it is imo, and no need to add a super lightning ball chi atck with mega dmg using our GL stacks, we are no casters.

I wouldn't mind a lower cooldown but as I said it's a useful skill to save for fights where you need the gap-closing. It's not in a state worth whining about.

Yes you can, if you move the pack towards the next one as you go and tank starts pulling before last mob of the current pack is dead. You can also use Shoulder Tackle to dash into the next trash pull to keep GL3 going (depends on the pull, of course, some are too dangerous to do that).

Yes you can if he jumps when you're moving into your third form (but this is, admittedly, inconsistent).

And if you're not and it falls off, that's what Perfect Balance is for; use it at heart or final phase to get GL3 back up quickly (just like after ifrit and garuda's super moves).

So I guess I don't need to point out that, since we're nit-picking now, GL refreshes when your third-form skill "completes" not when it's started, as long as you started it while GL3 was still active. Like, if your GL3 is at 1 second left when you start using Demolish, GL3 will actually fall off your buff bar as the skill executes, then reappear as GL3 (not GL1) as Demolish completes, so with a 2s GCD it really only takes about 5 seconds to refresh GL3.

Trallal i want emnity reduction skill! Only thing what we rly need. Know the feeling when you can tunnel vision a boss from flank without paying attention to anything and puff you're so over that you've to just run around next 20sec till you can do dps again and after that you get your cooldowns up again pam pam over trallalala lets run around like headless chickens.

T1 sit on boss till im almost over the tank and go run around doing nothing or switch target = wasted dps
T2 wait for wait for it OVER again just run around aimlessly till you can do dps
T4 knights /dreads oh wait for it wait for it after 5sec im too close that i've to stop dps or tank knights myself!

Just want someway now and then able to control my threat. Its great thing you've to worry about threat but it bothers me when you cant do anything except sit and do nothing.

Outside of these changes I would always like the animation of demolish and snap punch changed. Right now demolish looks like some heavy hitting move when you perform it and snap punch looks like some dot.

I was reading on the tank forums after Yoshi P. finished talking about the improvements to Warrior he mentioned some quality of life changes for MNK and DRG. Interested to find out what those may be. I don't think we need a buff, but some minor QoL changes would be nice.

I think the best QoL changes would be to make GL slightly longer (or drop off 1 stack at a time), make haymaker actually useful (maybe could be our filler instead of inefficient ID?, idk), and make TP regen scale with haste.
