Max Perception for Unspoiled Nodes

How much do you need to reach the 15% soft cap?

You can't. I have 382 Perception, and there's very, very little for me to add to that until I'm completely maxed on Perception; I have a base 5% on Unspoiled Node items.

It's a pretty big rip-off if you ask me. It'll take a long, long time for those few percentage points to pay off the hundreds of thousands of gil I spent to go from 1% to 5%.

So that only reaffirms my claims in another thread that perception materia is trash.

ugh, just capping GP (+27...) and gathering alone is gonna suck.

So it's not worth it to invest in materia + food to try and get a better HQ rate?

Simple Answer: No.

1% is enough to unlock HQ on node swings. If you really want that extra 3-4% then by all means you can invest hundreds of thousands of gil on Perception materia and food. But it really isn't worth it. At lvl 50 MIN/BTN you should aim for 600GP and 340 Gathering total (you get 321 Perception from full HQ set). Any more GP and Perception than this provides very little benefit for the amount of gil that it costs.

Perception will probably become more useful in an expansion when they add higher nodes, but yeah, wouldn't worry about it now.

for unspoiled nodes, make sure you have 600 GP, 100% gathering and eat some food to suplement the HQ after you pop the 30% boost. That's as good as its guna get for ya

so you can push your gathering up to 100% with out buffs? whats the gathering number that gets you there? thats unfortunate that all that perception doesn't help all that much

90% is the natural cap.

for unspoiled nodes, 90% for non clusters and 95% for clusters i believe is the gathering cap

There is zero point in melding beyond 340 Gathering total (which will hit the 90% gathering cap on unspoiled nodes, and 95% cap on clusters), 600GP total (since 650GP can't be reached practically and only offers minimal benefit to do so anyway), and for Perception, once you've passed the basic 320 value, just throw whatever trash perception material you have into any spare slots and don't worry about over-melding and burning tons of gil. My advice, aim for 335 Perception and stop worrying about it from there. Get 350 perception only if it's easily achievable with the material you have in stock, but don't go burning 1M gil to get it.

90% isn't the cap anymore for gathering - I got 95% on clusters and 93% on everything else at 335 gathering.

No idea if perception/HQ caps changed.

Clusters have always been 95%, though I'll admit that everything else at 50 was at 90%, at least the one-star materials. Can confirm I had 95% base chance with 347 gathering on Spruce Logs, Grade 4 Carbonized Matter and Prickly Pineapples at least.

This does mean that you can get away with 550 GP, using Field Mastery/Sharp Vision I in tandem with Blessed Harvest/King's Yield II for 100% success rate. Hail stuff!
