I find it hilarious...

...when people criticize me for being "undergeared" for Titan HM, then they end up dying before me when they can't avoid the AoEs before we even reach the heart phase. On every attempt I've taken, I've never been the first one to die. Then the geared people who die to AoEs blame lag before owning up to their mistakes.

But what happens when they do make it to the heart and after...*mind blown*

i'd be worried if you were hit by AoEs.i mean, you're their tank, plumes and slides shouldn't hit you at all ^^

I did Titan recently as BLM with Garuda Staff, AF1 body and the rest Demagogue and I didn't die once throughout the entire fight (had 3.1k HP because I forgot to eat). Titan is more about skill then it is about gear (as people proved with beating Titan in bikinis)

It's totally about gear once the tumult damage really starts ramping up after breaking the heart. If you don't have the gear to do the damage, you're taking way too long to kill him and the tumult damage becomes waaaaay too much for healers to heal...and if you don't have the gear to survive the tumult damage...well, you get the point. It's cumulative damage, which means every round he uses the ability, he stomps for an additional hit. So, if he stomps 4 times one round, he stomps 5 times the next round, and 6 the round after that. Each stomp is another big stack of damage.

Titan is a healthy blend of both. But don't assume that since you got carried through Titan HM with only 3.1k hp's, it was about YOUR skill. No, my friend, it was about the healers being able to keep you alive through all the tumults.

Edit: And I'm honestly not trying to sound mean here, but really being truthful. At 3.1k hp's, you're way more of a liability to a Titan HM than an asset. It would be a lot easier on the healer with you dead, and to be even more frank, Titan doesn't require the whole party being alive to kill him at the end. I've beaten him with everyone alive, and with only 1 person alive, and with various numbers alive in between.

In the end, you could be the best dodger in the game, but if you don't have to gear to kill it faster than he kills you (with Tumult), you're kinda screwed.

Indeed. While you do need to be able to dodge, there is also quite a bit of unavoidable damage with Tumult. And as Nanga said, it ramps up in phase 5, which is why I shake my head at people who NEED a LB for the heart. If you really need it to down heart, you're going to run into issues in phase 5 due to this.

So yes, gear IS important, more than people like to think. I'm not going to say you need Full DL and a Garuda Weapon(Doesn't hurt of course) But you do want to be decently geared. On the plus side, with more HP, if you DO get hit by a stray weight, there's more of a chance of surviving it. No one is perfect, but a good player will be wanting to have good gear before going anyways.

If your healers are always on top of things it's conceiveable to beat Titan with something like 2000 HP if you always dodged every dodgeable mechanism. There's also no reason for any random guys to believe you're capable of this, and even if you are, a lack of HPs implies a lack of DPS which makes the fight longer. Even if you can be 100% you'll never screw up, your healers might eventually miss a heal for whatever reason in a prolonged fight and obviously if they mess up at all, you're going to die horribly to Tumult as you lack the HPs to survive it. I mean sure sometimes I see these super awesome guys that can seemingly dodge an AE forever with equally awesome healers, but forever is actually more like 5 minutes. If you ask those guys would they like to continue this sequence for the next 30 minutes, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to do it because there's just a very good chance you'll screw up at some point and make an unrecoverable mistake.

one thing about the gear...I agree that skill is really important in that fight but gear does have a place as well. If all 8 players played the fight perfectly then those who are "undergeared" would be fine. but often there's at least a handful of mistakes made and each mistake = damage = extra heals = heals taken away from the unavoidable damage. Whether it's lag or just a brainfart, mistakes are made. The better a person's gear, the more mistakes can be made without it affecting the group quite as much.
