[dev1058] Proposed new point allotment system

with the new patch being discussed i'm like to ask a question to the developers if thats possible.

my concern is that now that points for attributes are going to be gained by rank, wont this basically give those who have hit rank 50 in all proffessions a much higher bonus than say those who have decided to specialise in a specific area of combat?

as an example say we have one character who has decided to master everything, and as such has put all the points he has gained from his pysical levels into equal area's, that person is now a jack of all trades, good at everything but specialising in nothing

while a second character has spent all 50 ranks and levels playing as a thaumaturge, put there points in nothing but those that the thaumaturge would require, thus that person has specialised, become a mater Thaumaturge but reletivly ineffective in other area's

now with the proposed changes you gain points per rank you gain, so now the first player has mastered everything and gained 18 times the amount of points to allocate than the person who had specialised, meaning that the person who has 50 in every class is now much better in every area than the specialist, including the area the other player specialised in

could someone with knowlage please comment on this and hopefulyl put my fears to rest, I enjoy playing a specialised character but honnestly whats the point if I have to get rank 50 in everything else to even compete with other players?

I believe that each class has its own points and that it doesnt carry over to the next class. You would have to add points again for your new class.

didn't he say that the physical level bit is going away? I believe each class will be allocated stats as it ranks up so I think your worries are not founded, so breathe easy brother/sister.

So does this mean that will get to reapply points? Or are the people already at the 50 mark in multiple things going to lose out on points? There is so much more I feel needs to be clarified.

Each class/job will have its own pool of stat points, and will gain them separately as they rank up. your rank 50 job may have 300 points available, but if you switch to a r10 job, you will only have 50 points available, stuff like that. so in all... your lower rank jobs are going to be as weak as if your physical level was the same as the rank.

If that's how it is, then this is easily one of the best things to come out of this patch. Allotting points between a DoM and DoW class is nearly impossible right now if you main one or the other. I'm definitely excited for this patch (or patches)!

Yes he said you will lose some points but its because the points will be much more effective. So After the patch is applied you will have to reallocate points for each class.

They specifically said that the amount of points you will gain will be lower per rank now, exactly for this very reason.

I'd also imagine that this change will come with a complete reset of everybody's attribute points too, giving everyone the correct amount based on their ranks and allowing redistribution. I don't see any need to panic... The post is also kind of moot because they've said that attributes will now have greater impact anyway, soooooo yeah.

It means less clicking when you are assigning points. but then again more clicking because you have to do it for each class/job.

I believe its pretty much this. Also, even though he quoted the poll, i don't believe physical levels are going to be removed. IMO, just like was said, we will receive a small amount of points for some "personal tweak" to each class.

My guess is that physival level will offer elemental point allotment and a base automatic allotment growth for attributes. With this done, the player uses his point allotmentts to fine-tuning the class.

Afterall its a nonsense we having people distributing all their points in 3 attributes and leaving the rest raw. I believe that they gave players a chance of fully customizing the character and, since it didn't happen as expected, they now will add automatically the minimum balancing and give players just enough points to fit the class to players' will (like allowing a lalafat player build his character in a way it can be just as good as a Roe in every class if he feels like it).
