This, most FFXI immigrants have been calling it Relic Armor anyway, since its appearance is diff from Artifact armor and it was never HQ. Honestly, calling it Relic was always the most proper term anyway by the fact it was never HQ.

Relic also works. But people were making a stink that it's AF+1 or AF2.

Does anyone have pics of the AF they showed in the stream? I barely missed it.

as much as i like doctormog... AF 1.5 sounds silly to me. In the end i'll go with whatever the community gravitates towards, and I suppose i can see how calling mythology stuff af+1 would bother some people. I'm kind of hoping we just refer to it was myth gear or something, kind of like how in xi there was empyrean AF and etc.

Gear from the AF quests is AF1, Myth Gear is AF+1(They are high lvl, more detailed versions of the AF1 we've received), Upcoming Gear is AF2. Give it a rest!

IF and only IF they bother coming up with HQAF gear(A waste IMO since we will have vanity slots and much less of a need to rehash the old designs), AF+1 would probably be better off as Myth Gear.

Until then, I'm calling it AF+1. Deal with it. :cool:

Nowhere in the whole game a "+1" denotes an HQ item. There's a special HQ symbol, but not a +1.
Yes, there are +1 Relic Weapons, but those aren't high quality version, they're upgraded version, and most likely there'll be a +2, +3, +4 ecc version coming, to not make the relic weapon's appareance obsolete. But if you think it's an HQ version I really think you're mistaken.

The gear you buy with Myth Tomes is called Relic gear.

AF- Gallant, Drachen, Fighter, Temple, Wizard, Choral, Evoker, Healer, Scholar.

Relic- Valor, Wyrm, Warrior, Melee, Sorcerers, Bard, Summoner, Clerics, Argute.

In FFXI we have AF/+1 Relic/+1/+2 Empyrean/+1/+2

I haven't seen an official name for it in game yet. I call is mythology gear cuz that's what you use to buy it...idk lol

I just call it Relic gear since it shares the same set names with it's FFXI counterparts.

I think the problem comes in where people denoted AF2 and Relic as the same thing in FFXI:

AF1 = Artifact
AF2 = Relic
AF3 = Empyrean

Some others also denoted AF1-5 as the pieces of Artifact gear (five in a set in FFXI) themselves as well, adding to the confusion. In later years, SE tried to clear up the confusion by outright calling the sets Artifact, Relic, and Empyrean gear.

So my guess would be:

Artifact
Relic
Artifact v2 (AF2)
... etc

Toon
DPS
and now AF2/1.5+1

The things people get upset over...

On a somewhat different note, I will refuse to call the current "relic weapons" relic. I will call them AF1 weapons, because calling them relic weapons hurts my FFXI soul. In FFXI getting your relic was a process that took people years!! like in this game the FFXI AF1 weapon came at the same lvl you got your initial AF gear. So in this game you get your AF gear along with the now so called "relic weapon" which I will forever call AF1 weapon until they make a true relic worthy of FFXI!!

I plan to keep calling myth gear relic till I hear from SE otherwise.

Not really... I think AF2 is ilvl 80 (makes sense as it comes with Crystal Tower), meaning Rev Toll would be AF2.5.

The gear isn't actually named by the dev team it will have names like Warrior's Burgeonet + 1 or something. So we are free to call the current set AF2 and the next set AF3. I won't be doing any of that .5 crap like from wow, that was confusing to a lot of people.

No, just that they exist and that 2.2 will bring them with The Binding Coil of Bahamut update.

Calling Artifact gear "AF1" is technically incorrect if you want to play the semantic game with me. Because it's just AF=Artifact.

There is no official name for the 2nd set of AF looking gear. Most from FFXI call it Relic(AF2)
In FFXI Relic armor came from Dynamis, where you obtained your relic weapon too. But it was the second set of "Artifact" type gear, so it was shortened from Relic=AF2.

So in my own head I see it as this:

Artifact gear=AF1(short version)
Relic=AF2
New gear coming=AF3

That's just how I'm going to see it, since in XI (my main MMO I came from) Empy gear was AF3 and was the 3rd JSE specific gear set to come out for all the jobs.

The real question is this: is AF2+1 AF3?

Yeah, I honestly feel like the gear will be augmented as we progress. It's appearance will be altered here and there as it's upgraded.

Haha I like you Doctormog but really AF1.5? That is just stupid. There are no 1.5 items at all in FFXIV. Here name a half item for me! You can't because they don't exist. For all intents and purposes that Mythology gear is a +1 version of our quested AF. It is higher item level and same item model. If you don't like AF+1 then the second option would just be calling it myth gear or some variant.

Also +1 denotes HQ what? None of my HQ items have a +1.

I subscribe to the old XI Dynamis/Limbus/Abyssea means of denoting armor tiers. (PLD Perspective)

Gallant Armor was your Artifact (AF) (AFv1)
HQ Gallant Armor was AF+1 (or AFv1+1)
Valor Armor was Relic (AF2 or AFv2)
HQ Valor Armor was Relic +1 (AFv2+1)
+2 Valor Armor was just that. Relic +2 (AFv2+2)
Creed Armor was Empyrean (AF3)
HQ Creed Armor was AF3+1 (AFv3+1)
+2 Creed was AF3+2 (AFv3+2)

Because the items are named similarly in this game, I go with Relic armor for job specific myth gear.

True, there is no official name for the second set of job gear currently ingame. But the recently shown set is officially noted as AF2.

I just call the myth job gear as.. myth gear. Can't get confused that way.

glad someone posted the photos that say AF2. I'll keep calling the myth gear AF+1 since there is no mention ingame of where it really falls. All I know is that its better than AF but not better than AF2.

None of the myth gear has +1 in the name. Why would you call it AF+1?

Because that's what everyone calls it. (At least on the servers I play)
AF+1 or AF Mythology Gear.

It's not about "Is this the right or wrong thing to call it, in terms of official terminology", it's just what people call it.
What Doctor Mog is trying to argue is that everyone is wrong and that they should change the name of it when it's far too late to even suggest such a notion.

Looks like DoctorMog was asking an honest question and not calling anyone wrong/an idiot/whatever.

It is way to early for AF2 (relic). This would be more on the lines of AFv1, in fact instead of useing tomes to get the afv1 they should have used something from 11 to provide better endgame content, than running a dungeon for tome's. The current system while it may seem good isnt that great, but instead could have provided better endgame content for FC groups (more than 4-8 man instances) to run and farm to help with the lack of any real endgame.

I'm curious what's going to happen when they raise the lv cap. we're going to have lv100+ gear, going into lv60/70/75.

The problem is that you need to consider the fact that they didn't have the time.
They had to rebuild a game from the initial experience to the end-game content all in under two years.

They just simply didn't have the time to do it.

They do have time the issue is they didnt wanna take the time they wanted to just rush the product out asap with very little to offer and thats exactly what they did. They took the fastest easiest route they could take and it shows that they took too many short cuts.
