I know its a long way off, but I wanted to get this request out there so enough people have a chance to read it. How will I know which class to level in preparation for the job I want to play in the future? Most classic FF jobs I can guess at. However will ninja be gladiator or pugilist? How about thief? Some jobs are ambiguous as to which category they will fall under.

If you solidify this information before you program the changes, I am requesting you post it to give current players a goal to level that class.

Chances are someone else will already have the requisite class leveled and post that information when they find out.

You don't even know WHICH jobs they are going to release yet, so why speculate?

There will most likely be some sort of intro quest for it or a lodestone post.

Why are we even assuming certain jobs will only be made available to certain classes. They state "...playing as a particular job will render you unable to equip certain actions of other classes..." which to me implies that all jobs will be available to all classes, and that as such each job will simply offer an additional set of spells/abilities. It makes sense - we're currently able to equip "Cure" on any class, so what would stop any class having access to all jobs?

Actually, to me that part you quoted indicates that there will be a class-lock. Read it again. "Playing as a particular job will render you unable to equip certain actions of other classes" Sounds like you can still equip some (but not all) abilities of classes other than the job's own one. Could be something lost in translation, but the wording in no way indicates to me that you'd be able to use any job on any class.

If certain classes are required for certain jobs - that information would be good to know for the current player base.

Any news from the devs on this?

This is pretty much beta testing they don't need to tell you what class goes to what job too they release the update. I level up Pug which i was hoping for monk so Pug should become Job=Monk If your GLD it should become PLD if your level up conj it should become blm or whm if you level up MRD it should become DRK or Warrior you but that just my guess.

Best bet is level for now and wait when it's release.

They don't need to tell us anything, but as I said, it would be very helpful to the current player base.

They're not very likely to tell us until we get them though. Not only is it not really SE's way of handling things, but the fact that XIV doesn't have a public test server sets it apart from many other MMO's in a very large way.

By not being able to test them until they go live, we don't really have any justifiable reason to know the details on what we're getting until it hits live. Well, other then the fact that we really, really, really want to know :). Still, until we can actively work with whatever they give us, telling us very much would just give everyone more to complain that they don't like... when we really wouldn't even know how it worked.
