Let classes choose their OWN cross class skills (level sync woes)

Cross class skills are a great idea, love the way it works , but there is one thing (ok, well one major thing) that just burns my arse about it LOL.

You should be able to choose your OWN classes ability as a chosen cross class skill. Bites my rear that as for instance a White Mage, every class at level 1 can use stone skin but me when I sync down.

Same could probably be said for swiftcast and Black Mages, and any number of other abilities.

So why not let us choose our own classes "cross skills" so that we have the same access to skills as the other classes. Just seems silly that every class can use these abilities except the one that actually GOT them.

Now there are a few more improvements I could suggest, but just wanted to speak specifically about this particular one in this post.

I'm confused. Nobody can use Stoneskin below the intended level if you sync (that includes any cross class abilities you have equipped), which is the problem you're having. Yes, any class can use it at lv.1, but they're not synched either.

Level-sync only reduce the number of the unlocked cross-skill slots, not what you can put in.
You can as example use Stoneskin in the level 15 dungeon if you put the skill in cross-skill slot #1.

Exactly , if you were to be able to use your own cross class skills, a white mage could slot Stoneskin in one of his first cross class slots and never lose access to it. Makes no sense, for every other class to be able to slot it and have access to it at early level while a synced white mage doesnt.

This goes for all abilities like that, swiftcast etc

I agree, level syncs should work for both slot number and skill level. Me and a BLM friend of mine were helping some newbies run Copperbell last week and my friend was pissed that I could take advantage of Swiftcast and he couldn't :P

I feel like this is working as intended. When you level sync on a particular class, you are no longer that level for that class only. In the case of Conjurer/whm, you don't get Stoneskin because you're no longer at the level to use it. If you have it set as a cross class skill on your Arcanist and level sync, your Arcanist level goes down, not your whm so you will still have access to the skill.

That's the reason why it works the way it does, and yes it would count as "working as intended," but I think the argument here is that does it really seem fair for an outside class to be able to use certain abilities that not even the native class can use? The only way to resolve this would be for level sync to sync ALL unlocked classes and not just the currently active one.

I have no problem with it either way since it all balances out in the end anyway (I may not be able to use my own skills, but at least I am compensated by using others).

Honestly, I really don't understand why level sync removes abilities from your arsenal in the first place. All they need to do is scale down the damage or healing of what said abilities do. It's silly and makes running lower level instances annoying more than anything.

Man if that burns your butt then you guys must be super pissed that a Scholar can use their healing pet in any dungeon... lower level ones the pet literally can do all the healing leaving the scholar to act as a 3rd dps. Eos has infinite mana to boot.

Talk about things to cry over.

Actually, if you had read the jist of what I said, that is more like what I'm wanting, ways to choose your own abilities as cross class skills so you don't lose them when leveling down.

It is because only the current class (in your example the CNJ/WHM) get level-synched, while every other classes on the character not. So, you can't use it because the CNJ don't have the level for it. If you are on another class, your CNJ would have the level and you can use the skill on the other class.

I don't even mind the system as it is (though I do agree that it's a little silly, and yes I do understand .why. it's happening)

what I would like is a way of actually making sure that the 'general player' understands it.

the other day I did a toto rak run on my con and the tank was cursing me out for not using stone skin, ranting how I'm doing a lazy a** job expecting the blm (who was actually a thm but that's beside the point) to cast it. I ignored him, because I figured i'd rather concentrate on cleansing the poison from him (arguing in the middle of a boss fight is kind of silly, usually)

after the fight the thm went all 'noob it's a lvl 34 skill she can't use it yet, it's a cross class skill for me. now quit b*tchn and do your job correctly so you won't need stone skin' (paraphrased I don't remember what he said exactly)
