Not sure about lore for FFXIV but a little fun fact: they were in FFXI as well.
I know they were in XI.. i played XI for years.. I am just wondering if they will become a full beast tribe here in xiv as well
They are not actually a fully built beast tribe. They are much like the Qiqirin and Goblins. They are allies as often as they are enemies, mostly traders or travellers for good or for ill.
If you check out Maelvaan's Gate you will see a specially cross Mamool'ja that's been sitting in line to get his wares past inspection it's been a while, they basically only exist as enemies on Bronze Lake, a place wherein this one particular Mamool'ja is being extra annoying to the hot springs denizens not because of what he is but because he's one very lewd customer, so you gotta kick him out ("You can't stop the bathing dance"~)
Thanks Skies.. seems you got it right...
Their current status is that they may someday summon a primal in Eorzea, but as of right now this isn't the case. After the Calamity, Eorzea was in desperate need of manpower and, tragically, recently short many lives. Many Mamool Ja, renowned for their skill with weapons and powerful frames, left their homeland in the West to supply Eorzea's demand for labor, doing everything from killing fiends to tiling roofs. Five years later, the realm has seen an unnaturally speedy recovery and adventurers have returned to prominence. The Mamool are now desperate to get work, creating less-than-ethical mercenary bands that will sellsword to even the beast tribes.
If they do end up summoning a primal, I wonder who it would be?
They can go one of two ways: classic which means their Primal would be Salamander or they could go referential and reference Gulool Ja Ja the Mamool's big bad from FFXI. Except prob re-flavored as a Legendary King/Leader of theirs.
It is actually in-game... somewhere. I think it may be the description of a FATE - probably in Eastern La Noscea.
I believe at the moment the only fully developed beastman tribes are Amalj'aa, Kobold, Ixal, Sylph and Sahagin. I don't think we're going to see Shiva until an expansion develops a new beastman tribe (which may already be in the game in undeveloped form: Gigas seems a possibility) for her and creates a new region to put their homeland in.
Yeah, I think Shiva will be a Gigas primal.
FATE: 9 to 5
I think The Cold Throne in the Gigas-centric Copperbell Mines was a little bit of foreshadowing.
So are the Amalj'aa related to the Mamool Ja in any way? Names sound too similar to be a coincidence. :)
My money's on Salamander.
All i took from what you guys saying about the lore Read below lol.
So we took there jobs so they look for jobs from the other beast tribe. Now we kill them because we get payed too with company seals. Then later maybe in patch they may get strong enough to summon a primal so they can be protected from us. Which then we have to go and kill more of them and stop there primal? and all that could have been avoided if we give them something to do lol.
They should be a F.A.T.E called "They Took Our Jobs!"
