Coil Turn #4 Stone Skin mechanic.

Hey guys/gals. Been on turn 4 bumping my head on a wall, however we have made major improvements and can get to phase 5 consistently now.

What im wondering is this. Just cause I still dont know which way to lean on this issue.

After 1st bugs are AOE'd down, MT takes K,S and OT takes K,S

The Left Soldier is killed by the SMN, and the right Knight by dps, then the Soldier and then the knight respectively.

Stoneskin seems like its taking forever to break for the DPS and or mages etc.

Whats going wrong with this? because we always have a 85% health Soldier left when dread pops, even though we can kill both before next phase starts.

Would just like to do it more efficiently. Any ideas on the Stone Skin? And exactly how long it taking to break it?

BLM and SMN are the ones to kill Soldiers, BRD can help break the stoneskin but the tank can do it by himself just fine - it doesn't absorb magic damage anyway, so the blm and SMN should be burning it down ASAP.

Ya thats how we do it, was just wondering why its taking quite a bit to break it as I have seen other groups almost pop it instantly.

I may be completely wrong on this, as I haven't experienced Turn 4, but I believe that the Monk skill "One Ilm Punch" is capable of instantly breaking Stoneskin. Could that be a factor?

One Ilm Punch does not take it off. The stoneskin simply has to absorb 3000 physical dmg before it pops. The way we do it is leave our BLM on the soldier while the physical dps burns the knight. Once first knight is down 1 brd helps me quickly pop and finish the first solider then moves to the other side. We usually have all 4 of them down just as the first dreadnaught is being sat in the middle so the dps can just turn and jump on him immediately

for the phase 2 adds (2 knights 2 soldiers) we have 2 BRD 1 BLM 1 SMN and we always bring them down evenly - first knight and soldier (on the dreadnought tank) go down pretty fast, then the 2 others are brought down just before or right as the dreadnought drops.

Haha..you're funny. One Ilm Punch actually having a use. Don't be silly. Why would they give mobs buffs that can actually be removed? That might make monk useful for something other than damage and mantra.

It's useful for removing the Dull buff in AK. Of course the Dull is usually dead before it goes off anyway =P

And I use it every chance I get on them! Which, unfortunately, isn't very often.

Is this proven? and a Fact? I am trying to figure out if it is indeed damage, or how many attacks hit the stoneskin before it breaks. I swift cast my Ifrit bet to break one while i solo the soldiers..
our make up is 2 brds, 1 drg 1 smn. dont have the luxery of two casters nor need it. If it is indeed 3000 hp, then i can pop rouse and spur to break it even faster.. otherwise id save the buffs for when it does pop.

Summoner DoT's are physical dps.

So the way i play SMN in t4 wave 2 is:

1. Put garuda on obey.
2. Put bio2, miasma, bio on the soldier near the knight that physical dps are attacking.
3. Use bane. You take 1.2k dmg, but deal damage equal to more than 2 festers, because it is not absorbed by knight's stoneskin.
4. Put bio2, miasma, bio, thunder on the other soldier.
5. Cast contagion and then bane. Another 1.2k dmg for smn, but it makes gigatons of dmg more than a fester.
6. Keep killing soldiers according to the normal order. This way physical dps will have time to help with soldiers.

Can't confirm the actual number, but it is only physical damage that will break stone skin, and breaking stone skin breaks the soldier. I'd say 3000 is pretty close.

Hmmm maybe your group DPS is not there yet to be able to kill the final soldier before phase 3 starts?
My group uses 2 BRD, 1 DRG and 1 SMN as well, during our first few tries we never manage to kill the last soldier before phase 3 start, it will always have around 60-70% hp left, so what we did was while the Dreadnaught is feeding all DPS will focus on the last soldier that will leave the soldier with very little HP by the time the DPS needs to change target to the Dreadnaught, the OT will kill the soldier himself or our DOT will kill it.

Our DPS have increase quite a bit now and our SMN uses the same method mention by IzumiRaito so we are now able to swiftly down phase 2 before phase 3 starts.

Like many have said, it's physical damage that breaks it, so bard or meelee n other physical the higher they are the faster it breaks.

Op what is your party set up?

My group runs:

• Paladin
• Warrior
• White Mage
• Scholar
• Dragoon
• Bard
• Black Mage
• Black Mage

We have black mages on main-tanks Soldier and physical dps on main tank knight. When those are burned we switch to off tanks. This gives our main tank time to get buffed with stone skin, hp, etc. before he picks up the first dread (the strongest dread).

Breaking the stone skin is not required.

we are all 3-4 pieces of AF2/allagan along with rest Darklight, most have relic +1. I tried Warrior and paladin, both almost full i90. Healers say they didnt notice much difference

So we struggled. we couldnt down that 1st dreadnought before next phase and then a spider always dropped on it and we were screwed. I'm not sure why we struggled. We down phase 1 with time. We always had a 1 knight left with about 5-10% health on it when dreadnought drops. I feel like we just missing one juicy tidbit of info that will make a big difference.

Anyone got tips? I can't believe its gear, ive seen groups with less be successful. Maybe its squeezing that 1-2 seconds of dps in, because literally that's what we are short. I'm thinking i'll take warrior and turn defiance off half way through phase 2 for dps boost

We had a similar problem. Advice the DD´s not to use their CD´s on the Spiders and they should not save em for the jugg. We use the cd´s for the clockworks (about when the first one goes down.) That will ensure they all go down before the jugg dropps and you have everybody on the feeded jugg. With 10% left on the clockwork it shouldnt be nessecary though since he should go down while the jugg is getting feeded. Your offtank may want to turn of the tankstance till the jugg is at 30%. The Scholar may pull out seline till your dd´s are comfortable with their rotations. The Scholar might debuff the jugg with everything he got drop a bubble and fairys cd´s and go dps. And last but not least (realy this Comes first at all) bufffood is a really good boost in dps.

Food + Pots is what we had to use till the gear was there. As a BLM who is ACC capped I use Buttons in a Blanket and Mega Potion of Int for the fight. It could be somebody isn't doing their optimal rotations. It doesn't hurt to ask your DD what they are doing. We are currently stuck on Wave 6 we downed the rook/old dreadnaught last night for the first time but then the OT died :(.

The knight with 5-10% hp left when dreadnaught drop is fine, in the few seconds it takes for the dreadnaught to feed on the spider, you would have kill that knight. Also make sure your DPS only start DPS-ing the dreadnaught after it feeds, if not they are just wasting their CD.

How much HP does the dreadnaught have when the spider drop on it? If it's just a little bit this is what we did in the beginning, our MT will pull that dreadnaught towards the middle, the spider drop at the same place the dreadnaught spawn, so by pulling it to the middle you buy your team some extra DPS time. Also save all CD for dreadnaught, then all out burn, make sure 1 of your bard is using Foe for that phase.

The problem is not gear, your DPS needs to squeeze out as much DPS as they can during that phase.
