Would like to see Two handed swords/ great swords and enchantments ?

It would be cool in the future of this game to see the return of the Two-handed swords and maybe some huge bladed swords i.e. Cloud's Buster sword . Swords like that would be awesome. Also implementing some form of enchantment on weapons to deal like fire, ice, lightning, etc damage and such would be cool to see while also altering the appearance of the blade, for example covering the blade in flames for the fire, blue crystallike aura for ice, and gold lightning bolts for lightning, etc.

Even tho its used in several other RPGs, I think with the outstanding graphics FFXIV has, it would look really awesome.

Also It would be cool to see the return of the samurai katanas and such , just more weapons in general and more unique looking ones. Though I'm confident there will be more in the future, with new expansions and stuff this is just my two cents on what I'd really like to see. :P

Absolutely yes! I'm a lover of big swirds! @_@ If my GLA was able to use great swords i'd trade my shield for a great sword in a hearbeat (Unless they're tremendously ugly...but i doubt this would ever happen)!

enchantments were mentioned in a post by Yoshi. Something about materia and being able to craft it to weapons, making the disciple of the land class more useful (as they collect the stuff you need)

I mentioned this in one of my previous letters. These new concepts are not limited to simply new elements in the synthesis process, but also aim to stimulate the economy as much as possible. Through crafting, we plan to breathe new life into the game’s economy by improving gilflow and the distribution of items, and ultimately improving both the merits of, and motivations for, all classes.
Among the devs, we are tentatively calling this the Materia System, though that name may change. This new system will allow Disciples of the Hand to fuse materia to weapons and armor using special catalyst items gathered by Disciples of the Land.
Disciples of War and Magic can customize and personalize their gear
Disciples of the Hand can answer the materia-fusing needs of others
Disciplies of the Land can gather catalyst items to meet the realm’s demands

I’ll be posting more details on the Materia System at a later date.

If two-handed weapon options are added for Gladiators, it would be nice at the same time to add one-handed weapon options for Marauders and Lancers -- essentially one handed axes and spears.

I've always found it curious that shields say "Discipline of War only" and yet the only DoW class that can use shields is Gladiator.

• YES to 2 handed weapons for gladiators
• YES to 1 handed weapons for marauders and lancers

P.S. I recognize that Lancers don't make the best tanks, and so shields wouldn't be all that fantastic an option, but I think there could be some viable off-tank builds.

Yes to the 2 handed swords and 1 handed weapons to marauders and lancers, (as well as duel wielding) but no to ridiculous swords like Cloud's buster sword.

Don't get me wrong, I love over the top ridiculous buster swords, but I feel they don't really fit in THIS game. Our characters are not really meant to be a Cloud type character and so I feel some restraint as to the size of the weapons is needed to keep the game world's current feel.

I'd like to add that the the class skill re-adjustment is the perfect time to introduce (or at least plan for) the eventual introduction of these additional one-handed and two-handed weapons.

Since there are a few balance issues with simply adding the new weapons (e.g. MRD with Steadfast, Sentinel abilities, and Defender II might be a trifle overpowered), the new classes could be organized with the new weapon options in mind !

Looking at an old Famitsu image, it seems like they were planning 2h swords all along.

Thaumaturge and Conjurer both have 1H and 2H weapons; I'm fully in favor of 2H gladiator weapons and 1H marauder/lancer arms.
