Character name change??? (Is it possible?)

Is it possible to get a character name change currently or are we stuck with the name we have? Im getting the "Fantasia" potion soon so i was whondering dose that change the name or just looks?

The potion just changes looks. :/

The only things the potion changes are your looks race and gender. It does not change your jobs classes or name.

There will be however some sort of loop hole soon that may allow you to name change but it will require transferring server once they open the transfers.

Basically make a character with same name on destination server and the transfer over there it should prompt you with the option of a name change well at least in theory :).

False.

The name you're using now, cannot be used anywhere else, meaning it does not exist on other servers. This is to avoid having people with the same name in dungeons(duty finder is cross server), and to avoid making people change their names when they transfer. I know this for a fact, because I tried to do it back during EA, when i wanted to use the same character on multiple servers.


Basically, once you have a name, you're stuck with it until the character is deleted.

Then whats the point of having this in the transfer notes?

Then why is SE saying that if you transfer to a world you will have to change your name if it already exists on the destination server?

"In the event". meaning "If it happens". Legacy accounts may not apply, so they may have similar names to those on other servers(of course, they can't leave their server)

Also, read the last line "the same name but is associated with an inactive service account". They don't delete inactive accounts right away, but inactive accounts have to be recovered before they can be active again.

Again, I tried to use the same name on multiple servers before, doesn't work, and I highly doubt, anyone would use the same name i have, let alone have all of the same character names i have.

EDIT: forgot to add, there's also the JP severs, which have different data centers, and different name servers.

Uhhh I have a char named Sugar Peanut on 3 different servers....

Because someone on the second server already had your name, duh.

Who would even logically think all these servers share the same name listing anyways .... Derp Logic -_-

It's called a Name server, and yes, it is real. They're used by international companies, as well as with games. Derp logic on your part.

Sorry but never once played a game using multiple servers to choose from that shared the same name listing. SMH
Also, don't know how you can explain all the ppl with the same char name on different servers ( like myself ) then? You CAN have multiple chars with the same name on diff servers, its just a fact. whats going on with u I cannot say. I doubt it has anything to do with membership types, either, tho I cant confirm that.

Then you haven't played very many games. Name servers exist to insure that those with the same name cannot exist, for the reasons of things like cross server play, and server transfers, this does not include different regions. The only time you should EVER be forced to change your name when changing servers, is when moving a character from one data center, to another, I.E. Japan to Europe for example.

And Well in my case then, Square did it's job right.

Kid, ive been beta testing & playing MMO's for over a decade now - and all kinds. I love how derps on forums like to talk to people like they even know anything about them just so they can feel better about themselves when they insult someone anonymously. Sorry, but no, never seen what you are talking about even once. Even played games that have cross server play and group finder like features that span across servers - and have run across ppl sharing names that's why it says their SERVER name next to them. >.>

Still does not change the fact that in THIS game in question ( who cares bout other things im staying on topic here ) you CAN have the same char name across multiple servers at the same time. & the Fantasia potion does not allow you to name change as people have said, but pretty much all other mmo's out there have a service to change your name - altho not all of them really come out with it in the beginning, so I would assume that in the near future it will be an added service. I mean, they are only just now getting around to opening up server xfers :)

I did read it, that why I posted it. Your post (you know... the one I quoted), said that a name could only exist once between all servers.

Way to be totally and completely 100% wrong on something.

And if you read up with him ranting on me - even after I proved it to him by showing him my chars on different servers and explaining things, he is still defending what 'he knows for a fact' xD

You are incorrect. Look up Kaine Highwind on the the Lodestone. There are 30+ of them across different servers.

I did want to point out that Secret World does have cross shard name server, but only because chat is shared across all shards.

I imagine they will probably release it in the future as a paid service. For now though I guess it's best to just not make a completely stupid name. :D

I think hes more talking bout ppl that named themselves something like Pal Paladin or Paladin Gladiator ( im not even making that up lol ) THOSE kind of dumb names :P
However, I wouldn't sweat it too much, every other mmo out there comes out with a name change service at some point after release so ^_^

Well ideally people stop and think for a while when creating their character, rather than quickly type the name of the first Pokémon with Harry Potter character surname they can think of. But yea, I was more referring to those names that seem awfully funny during character creation, but then you realise that you are stuck with a somewhat lame name. But I understand that peoples name preferences change over time and/or they think of that really good name only after they made their characters.

Wouldn't be worried too much, SE would be silly to pass on the money off people eager to change their name.

Free character name change :

1.) Create a character on another server with the same name as your current main character.

2.) Transfer your current main character to the world that your same-name character is in and it'll force you to change your name

3.) Wait 3 days and then transfer back to your old server with your new name

4.) ???

5.) Name change!
