Anyone else praying Samurai or DK are DPS?

We need a sword DPS already. Only reason I even Tank is because I hate the gameplay mechanics of the DPS at this stage in the game of always having to be at the side or the back of an enemy to do any kind of decent damage. Would love Dark Knight to be a sort of Middle ground Thaumaturge/Gladiator Job where you damage increases similar to the way Thaumaturges and BLM boost damage and mp regen(only DK would regen TP and MP at a lower interval.)

Samurai could be mainly a frontal assault DPS where the more damage you take the more damage you can deal. With skills that add sorts of HP regen and mitigate the ammount of damage necessary to increase the damage you do. Samurai should also have a lot of DoT effects since Katanas by their nature cause wounds that bleed profusely their focus could also be crippling debilitation of the enemy such as being able to decrease an enemies resistances to being stunned and paralized by using skills that DoT while nerfing the enemy resistances. Samurai would be exclusively middle or light armor while DK could use Heavy armor but not have the Defence increase that a Paladin would or a Warrior.

I really hope Samurai is a DPS class, or if they're a tank make the Parivir from FFTA as a second Job that does DPS.

DK should be a DPS/Debuffer, and maybe have some HP/MP/TP absorb skills.
SMR should be an off-tank/buffer, with a lot of parry and evade skills, auto-attack self buff and AoE support for diferent roles (DPS-healer-Tank). It would be also great that they have a set of skills depending on what katana they are using.

i really see the samurai a dps, using the skill-chain from FF11 as main system, it can be pretty nice if well done.

for the one that don't know the skill chain of final fantasy 11: you do a skill, someone else do another skill, bonus effect like an explosion of fire.
in the case of the samurai for final fantasy 14: you do a vertical slash, followed by an horizontal slash, giving a bonus cross slash attack.
instead to add combo, they add a technic that can be used for make more complex bonus attack
as your level up you get a trait allowing you to do 2-3-4 skill chain.

for the dk, i see a tank crippling the target, using dark magic for shroud him in darkness and reduce the chance to be hit. he will be able to steal stat from the monster and increase hi own stats.

Samurai better be a dps class, and not a tank. I don't mind how they plan to implement Sam, cause it's obviously not going to be a WS class like it was in XI, considering everyone can use constant WS now lol. I just hope it's interesting.

Every time someone on these forums suggests Sam should be a tank, I kill a kitten.

However I very much want Samurai to be a tank. Their armor and fighting style would make tanking pretty and less barbaric than it is now. That or Dancer or Ninja tanks. One of the three I hope make the cut for the tank role. I want the tank role to be more open than just a bunch of heavy armored hardcore brutes. Katana's are pretty graceful and deadly weapons, it's slashes are powerful and elegant. I feel that visual diversity is what the tank role needs.

Pick one, DK as a DPS, or Samurai DPS, but I wouldn't never say both.

the samurai are by definition a warrior that have only one goal, eleminate the enemy of him daimyo.

the idea of a Dark Knight be a tank feel way better actually, by using dark power they can open way more interesting.

This is FF, and in FF samurai are by definition sellswords with one goal, to release the spirits within their katana.

just give me a ninja and i'll be happy.

I'm praying on beast master, time Mage, sage, gunner, drg with his wyvern, geomamcer, Viking, machinist, hunter/musketeers, and berserker. And of course some Sam and nin.

The fact I'm playing Final Fantasy and couldn't be a DPS with a sword blew my mind. I honestly don't even care what class or job it comes with. I just want a damn sword. I'm actually loving all of the melee DPS, but I want a sword-user more than anything. Hell, even a dual-wielding dagger type deal like Thief.

Gladiator being the only sword user is honestly one of the primary reasons it's the main class I'm levelling. I'm not really huge on tanks at all.

Right now I'm imagining DRK being the DPS Soul Crystal for marauder with THM as their subclass and probably... LNC as their tertiary, just seems to fit the themes of the base class really well, just turn some of their abilities shadowy and give them some nasty job skills and it could work really well.

Ninja is probably going to be a dual sword DPS.

I wonder what craft is going to be needed for Samurai, I keep thinking Armorer but I know once I level that they will switch it up to Leather Craft. =(

Bamboo Armor and Katana: Carpenter makes armor, smith makes weapons. -.^

I can see it now: They add samurai to the game and make it as overpowered and needed as it was in FFXI for 7 years of its life.

My personal opinion would be samurai as a tank and have him play like auron from 10 with all the different "break" moves, and have dark knight be a dps with a scythe. I would be ok with a two handed great sword.

They could add SAM as a class, as dps and at 30 the job unlocked could be NIN that would be something like a support class using the ninja tools to buff party and debuff mobs. The job and class would share katana. Seems plausible.

Only problem is theres 2 melee dps already, 2 caster dps, but only 1 ranged physical dps currently. :< So next will probably be something like musketeer etc.

However, oh please god put in samurai. <3

@leonas: you must count in term of ranged/melee, if you look at it, you have one melee less. and more important we don't have a scout class yet.

As someone whos FF knowledge comes mainly from FF:Tactics. I know most of this will never happen.

There should be classes that fill the exact same role but with different styles. I want to see a Samurai with laminated armor chopping faces off. I also want to see the chopping faces off role filled by sword and board Knight style char. One has a little more DPS while one has a little more defense and can off tank for adds.

Also with the Maelstrom GC why in the name of all that's holy do we not have a pirate class? I know it sounds goofy at first but a Pirate could fill the roll of "dirty tricks" a blunderbuss that blasts salt into eyes, bleed stacks with a cutlass, and drenches foes in moonshine so a BM can ignite. AKA a melee range utility class that enhances the effects of other members of the party. I love it when skills interact between classes E.G. it would be great if a tank could "pimp slap" a boss so a monk could "sucker punch" for even more damage.

Yeah I am waiting here for the DRK specifically.
