Tonberry English Speaking Community?

I'm posting here hoping to get some feedback about the English speaking community on Tonberry. My personal situation is that I'll be moving to Asia fairly soon for work and I'd like to continue playing FFXIV. Therefore, I will highly likely make use of the upcoming server transfers to a JP Group server.

From some brief research it appears that Tonberry has an active and healthy English speaking community but I wanted to hear it straight from you all. Is the English speaking community fairly large and active on Tonberry? While I'm more than happy to play with Japanese players, as a native English speaker I feel I'd enjoy this game more with people who speak my own native language. Thanks in advance all.

Many Australians are here, I think it is about half EN and half JP in Tonberry. We got a Linkshell called North Americans if you are interested to join us.

You will have no problems adjust if you transfer here. At times, it feels like there are more English players than Japanese. Mostly it's from the SEA and the Oceanic regions, but there are also NA players. There are also a number of FCs actively recruiting to choose from both for casuals and raiders. You can also use http://oceania.guildwork.com/ for your reference.

That site is pretty dead imo. You'd have better luck on the official forums.

Actually you'll find quite a lot of ppl here speaking english. Tonberry is kinda mixture of SEA/JP ppl togather ,
Australia,Singapore,China,Vietnam,Thailand and on and on... but usually it's english or *Engrish* base communication
so you don't have to worry anything. Just.... don't push the wrong button when doing duty finder or you'll end up with
JP group very soon lolz.

But I heard that when server trans. service starts..... the HUGE WAVE is coming.... that's just a rumor though :p

Awesome, this is all great news. I can actually speak a fair amount of Japanese so playing with them wouldn't be a problem. However, It'd just be much more comfortable and enjoyable being able to play with English speakers (which looks like I'll be able to do on Tonberry). I'm looking forward to the server change quite a bit. My current server is too crowded and once I make my move to Asia I wouldn't be able to do any end-game content because of the time difference. To sum it up, Oct 15th couldn't come sooner haha

Serving transfers are going to happen very soon, and I hope I'll be able to transfer to Tonberry without issue. :D

I will be transferring two characters to Tonberry shortly. I had thought about the other so-called ''unofficial'' Australian server Behemoth, but with constant non-stop 90000 errors i am likely to abandon it. I just created a character on Tonberry to test the waters - mostly looking for problems if there are any.

Well, so far, ive been on this server and hour and have not met anyone who speaks english, will respond to my request to join a FC or... well said ANYTHING english or not.

I'm not sure what you're after, but we have one of those massive guilds who love having lots people called Mirai that you might like.

So far, after an hour and a half ive contacted a few FC's. So there are a few that speak english.

However, the server has some issues with lag spikes. Not as bad as the 90000 full disconnect on Behemoth, but enough to cause trouble avoiding aoe. I am hoping it goes away soon though.

I finally join one only to find that despite FC being an english one, half of them speak some form of asian. Sigh.

Damned to repeat this endless loop. Either stay on my current server and just eat the latency and lag spikes forever, or transfer to a server where only a small portion even speak my language.

That seems strange, I've seen and met a lot of english speakers. Admittedly that english might not be so great, but I'm not expecting great works of literature from the game. If larger Company's are your preference, Mirai is most likely one of the largest. There is Synapse, Eikon, 7th Heaven, Avalanche, Chocobo Knights, Forged, Nightfall, too many to name really.

But if you want one that is only english, probably better to specify Australian/NZ Free Company. I don't know which of the above are Australian, but I'm sure a few are.

I have nothing against non-english speakers in general. It is just the fact that ive been in multilingual guilds in the past and it quite simply splits the guild into separate cliques that only talk to each other and do social activities together. Rarely ever mixing the english and bi-lingual groups together. I dont want to be part of a fractured FC as ive seen what that does to a guild.

One thing ive found that is quite ironic, is some of the non-english groups have names of english only things. Arthur's Knights was a guild i came across once. Almost nobody spoke english. Totally misleading haha!

It's nice to see my little thread is getting some more responses. I've been checking back in here in there to get more info about this server. So far it really is my front-runner for server tansfers. I'll probably make a lvl 1 character later this weekend to test the waters first-hand, but so far I like what I see. At least those of you who have responded here seem quite friendly and obviously speak English pretty well which is exactly what I was hoping to find ;)

This is what ive been doing. I have a carbon copy of this character going on Tonberry simply to see how things go in anticipation of next Tuesdays transfers. Sadly i will only be transferring this WHM to Tonberry as my only other character on Behemoth will require the full paid transfer at the end of the month. Can only transfer from one server to one server and not from two or more servers to one. Sucks but i can wait.

There are lots of FCs on Tonberry that only speak English, I can name 4 Australian guilds that I play with regularly, and then there are just as many that speak English + another language, such as the Singaporean, Malayan and Thai guilds, which are some of the best guilds on the server currently.

If you want big guilds that speak English there is MIRAI, Ascension, Eikon, Vex, etc. If you want small guilds that speak English there is Flare, Core, Excalibur, Zero, Skyhawks, etc. Lots of English speakers.

So I made an ARC and played for a couple of hours on Tonberry to get a feel for the server earlier. My conclusion: I'll be moving my main char there next week. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of spam in shouts in town, I didn't get a single RMT spammer sending me a tell. There was also a fairly healthy amount of English in chat just as people have mentioned here. Latency was pretty good and will only get better once I make my irl move to Asia. This server has won me over, so I'll be seeing you all in game next week sometime.

PS. If anyone is interested in a full Darklight, Relic+1 Bard I'll be looking for a FC once I make my move ;)

RMT /tell spam is around, but it doesn't happen all the time. Welcome to Tonberry, you can check the progression thread on these forums as well as individual FC's threads. Good luck and welcome to Asia :)

I'm thinking of moving to Tonberry, too. I'm only around level 30 right now, and doing fine with the duty finder, but having access to lots of English-speaking FCs sounds like it'll benefit me later.

I was also thinking of moving to Tonberry. I need variety! I want to be able to talk to people from Japan and SEA.

Hi guys. I have recently moved to Singapore from the US and have started playing ffxiv last weekend on a NA server. While it is nice to play leveling up and whatnot, my 2 main concerns about playing on NA server are:
1) Ping issues during endgame (pvp and pve). Getting ~250-300ms, will want to check how it much it would go down playing JP server.
2) Not enough people to play end game with besides duty finder.

I do only speak english so that is a huge concern of mine moving to a JP server. What do you guys think? Is it worth the move?

OP here. As of writing this message I have finished my server transfer to Tonberry! Looking forward to meeting you all in game. I'll be scoping out a decent endgame FC over the next few days too ;)

You'll be fine. Lots of English speakers here in Tonberry. Just look for an English-speaking FC (tons of them all around), and you should be gold.

Hi there, i have just completed my transfer request and arrived recently in Tonberry.
I was thinking of founding a new 'English-Speaking' FC to be started here, addressed to players who recently migrated from another server and also new-players that seek helps and English community here

I'm thinking of an FC with a strong friendship and kinship inside, no difference on any newbies, veterans, casual, or hardcore players
Targetted to help each other players with DF, Dungeon raids, etc.

And while I am learning Japanese, it will be useful in the future, but I don't want to be left in a guild that has just lost half its pop in the past 5 days and end up stuck on a server where I feel completely alone. So I am hoping that I can join a FC if and when I cross over. Anyways, I have maybe a day to decide. Any thoughts?

It really depends on your requirement - whether you prefer a casual or hardcore guild. But look through the threads in this sub-forum, and you should be able to find lots of choices. There's SEA-based FC's (GMT +8), and Aussie-based FC's (GMT+11), so it's a matter of which one fits your time zone as well :)

Well, it depends. I am in North America, but on the west coast. I actually ping between 80-90ms for NA servers and 120-130ms for JP servers, so I honestly can consider the personal benefits of staying on an international server. As far as time zones are concerned, right now I am 5-6 hours from Aussie-based FC's, but come the shift back to Standard time (here in NA), it jumps to a 3-4 time difference, which is very very workable either way. I am a moreso casual player, but would like to hit endgame eventually. Eitherway, I made the switch, as there was literally was a mass exodus of English speakers off of Ultima (which was really sad cause we actually had about 10% of the population by my numbers...) And I do appreciate the advice about the timezones.

We're based in GMT +8, although we have a few in GMT +11 like myself as well, and we're all about helping out each other, and having fun. As for end game, we have a few Coil parties going on, and we have nightly Titan HM sessions as well. We also have a Teamspeak server that we use for organizing raids. For end game, you shouldn't have a problem finding a party, as Bards are in high demand for Coil, so unless something drastic happens, there's always gonna be room available for Bards (not just within the FC, but in general).
