Repairs - A little too extreme

Ok while I don't mind the repair system as it stands, the items degrade far too fast at the moment, and the NPC that does your repairs if you cannot find a crafter charges 999,999g to repair NM drops.

While I understand it is to increase the feeling of a real world, the repairs have now just become so much of a constant thing, I either have to visit Ul'dah 10 times a day, or just leave the item red/drop it and get another.

Please try to adjust it so that they aren't all made from tissue paper, as all the money I am earning through leves is going straight back into repair costs/item crafting.

honestly, I think since the last set of changes to the repair system the degradation is fine, barely ever have to repair gear, and weapons can take days before needing any form of repair

Just to give you an example, I fully repaired my Brand about 20 mins ago, and have killed 8 monsters with Phantom Dart/TP Moves, and it's at 56% durability. It is a little silly (and yes im above the optimal rank too :( )

Harry Potters Wand took 7 years to break and got stronger with age, Gandalf only ever had one staff, I want my wand to be strong like Ox :(

ive not noticed anything like that at all since the last changes

This is what prompted me to post, has happened alot with my hat and brand (The hat from the wolf NM in Nanawa and just a standard Brand). Could be a bug, could be me doing something horribly wrong, but it's really getting up my chute :(

In my experience, only if my rank can't meet the optimal rank, then the degradation is really fast. If you fullfill the optimal rank, then it is fine to me.

See that's what I thought, but the Brand is Rank 23 (http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/brand?id=5020201) and the Divining Hat is Rank 30 (http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/divining-hat?id=8010130) and I am a level 33 Thaumaturge. I would be very appreciative if someone told me if there is something I am missing there, as it may just be me not knowing enough about the system. :)

(also ignore my stats in my sig, that thing takes days to update)

Ok let me start by stating repairs are fine as is

HOWEVER< the new NM drops are a bit rough, the problem isnt that they are hard to find repairs for
the problem is what they require to get repaired.


Blue coral for instance, cost 10k gil in the wards.....how many people are willing to offer what its worth to have that repair material used
electrum squares are used in almost nothing, so who makes them unless its just to repair the new bow


thats the only real problem, once again, people cant find a repair for those items cuz they dont know the value of the material used to repair and dont offer what its worth

Are you seriously kidding me lol? the only reason they would degrade too fast is if you are wearing something that is way too high lvl for you.

actualy, some of the new NM items degrade rapidly regardless, even ive noticed this(i dont care about repairs cuz im 40+ in every craft but something ive noticed)

and if they are too high for you it is massaively worse

Lots of people have noticed that the new NM items drops specifically degrade faster than other items. Its like they added the new items and then gave them the old degradation values instead of the new ones. It can be annoying. In my LS the main complaint is about nestpicker going to hell so fast. I could see it not being a bug; those items in general are pretty damn good, even compared to some r45+ gear. But at the same time, its an odd inconsistency. I wonder, has anyone actually tried post to "in-game bugs" about it?

I've noticed this too...for some reason DoM weapons are still breaking too fast. Each time i do leves as THM i often need to repair my weapon at least once per run...if i die a few times during them i might even need to repair twice or play with it damaged iat final leves.

But for other classes i believe its pretty good the rate they damage nowaday.

I think the repair system is more cumbersome then it's worth and I wish they would scrap the whole thing. I don't know about other worlds but rewards for repairing items barely cover the repair material or are less then the repair material. Most linkshells have someone in the shell that does repairs for them. The offer from ls mates is normally 1g. I really don't know any benefit at all to the repair system. It's simply not good for the game.

I can definitely understand about the Brand type wands breaking quickly. If you look at the max durability of the various THM weapon types, brands are the lowest. According to YG:

Brand: 87840 (Anathema is a brand)
Scepter: 107360
Staff: 146400

Regardless of potential modifiers to durability usage due to NM weapons being special, brand types are already alarmingly flimsy. If you're accustomed to using a staff, it really grabs your attention how fast that durability percentage goes down after switching to a brand.

Aside from the aggressive responses, I am indeed aware that these items degrade quickly. My point was that they shouldn't. I have actually decided to level Goldsmithing up to at least 30 now as tonight, through 3 Behests, my new Anathema broke 3 times. I am one level under the required rank for it, and it was actually going down 2-4% per shot fired (with whatever the bolt thing is called that builds TP).

Honestly, this is just silly, yes I was 1 rank under for this weapon, but it still has no reason to fall apart like a soggy tissue.

i think after the last patches the repair system is just fine. It used to be horrible imo but now its a thing everyone can live with and it keeps crafting valuable. If that gets changed crafting gets as useless as in all other mmos.

Well, yes it was ^^: One of the requeriments for lower equipment damage is being at optimal rank or higher. But still they do break way too fast. They are like accessories and underwear were at release...

Hopefully we will have some adjustments at damage rate of DoM weapons so they can break at same rate other classes' tweapons do.

If that is the case it seems wierd to me, I have repaired my fists of the sixth sun twice or thrice leveling from 35-45

they should just take the degradation thing out of the game. or at least make the npc's fully repair items for you to 100% for some gil. this is one of the very few flaws i don't like about the game. i just came back to the game a few days ago after not playing since the betas, so i haven't tried repairing my own gear yet with crafts. i don't know how crafting really is now but it wasn't too fun in the betas. it was like playing a minigame within ffxiv, since you had like 3-4 options to choose from. to craft 1 item it took several minutes! another is, allowing you to equipped pieces of gear in which your rank is lower than the rank of the specific piece of gear. some people like it, some people don't. other than that, i'm having fun playing! :D

Ok now that I have overlevelled the item, it does still seem to degrade very quickly. The case in point:

Standing in Ul'dah - Someone repairs my Anathema to 100%
Run to Nanawa Mines with a friend, and we do 3 linked leves
Item has now hit 38% durability
Run to Nophica Wells (damn it give us Chocobos!!!!)
Do Levinshower
Weapon is now 0% durability

My rank is 37, but I do use Phantom Bolt alot, still this is a ridiculous amount of degradation on a weapon.

have you reported this as a bug vahzl? because to me it seems to be a bug with your character, No one in my ls is getting this anywhere nearly as badly as you

Ok just to report in, now that I have hit R39-R40, the weapon seems to survive alot more. Maybe optimal rank is like a minimal rank, and as you go further past it, the durability drops lessen. Who knows, but not really much of an issue anymore, as I can repair this stuff myself, and make the mats for it too now. :)
