Am I crafting wrong?

I've gotten to about 39 GSM, and I've resolved to the same steps for pretty much every craft: Great Strides > Standard Touch > Great Strides > Standard Touch > Great Strides > Standard Touch > etc.

Throw in a Manipulation in there somewhere, and that's pretty much every synth for me.

first get the lvl 15 alchemist skill <Tricks Of The Trade>

try

inner quiet > steady hand > manipulation > basic touch > basic touch > basic touch and so on. and if u have enough cp always keep up steady hand
(if u have enough CP u can use standard touch or mix basic and standard)

if u get good befor or after manipulation always use trick of the trade

this way really keeps your cp up if u get some good

Depends on what the intent of the craft is. When I was mass producing ingots or yarns to prep for leves I would use a similar macro because going for 100% on everything takes 5x as long and requires more attention. But this isn't going to get you HQ with any regularity, so it's not the best way to craft when it matters.

Inner quiet is a great ability and you should generally be using it. Also, steady hand will reduce cp and durability wasted due to misses.

Eventually you will want to invest some time in getting some cross class skills. Rumination(crp) is a great beginner skill since it can provide you with an extra 50-60 cp at the end of a synth. Careful synth (wvr) is also pretty great even at 90% efficiency, as you will never miss a synth again. Hasty touch (cul) and tricks of the trade (alc) are also extraordinarily useful for getting to 100% quality, though they do slow down the time/craft significantly.

I'm leveling all crafts at once, but not necessarily evenly. I finally got all my crafts to 20 last week (so I could clean up my armory chest), and discovered Hasty Touch and Tricks of the Trade. I always use Careful Synth, and I use Tricks of the Trade whenever a good (orange globe) pops during the first part of my synth. Once I get to the last few steps of my synth, I use a touch for any good pops for the extra quality. I save Hasty Touch for when I have 1 or 2 steps left, but less than 14 CP. A 50% chance of increasing quality is better than 0% by finishing the synth.

From what I've seen, it looks like EXP gain is directly related to the total quality you've added before finishing a synth. If this is true, going for the highest quality on every synth will yield the best EXP overall.

There are times I don't even need to worry about crafting HQ base mats because HQing a 40/40 can be tough. But it's much easier to HQ a final product than the mats themselves. At least that's what i've ntoiced but I only have a few mid30's trades.

To use the Great Strides method well, you want to be popping Standard Touch while it's up on a Good or Excellent. You have three steps for that to occur after you pop Great Strides. I throw in a Steady Hand and then either a Waste Not (if it's a 40 Dura synth) or a Basic/Careful Synthesis (if it's a higher Dura synth and using that won't complete it) to try and coax a change in condition out.

Mjollnir hit in on the head. Pay attention to your condition and try to line up your Standard Synth+Great Strides with positive conditions. The other option is to level leather and cook to 15 and try the Hasty Touch spam method.

Can you describe this? I find that when I try to spam hasty touch, I run the risk of running out of durability and I really have to keep my eye on it. If you use LTW (waste not) you get 2 extra steps, but if you use one of them for a Tricks of the trade when Good pops, you lose a step, unlike Manipulation, where it will give you back 10 durability, but of course at the extra cost to use.

What is the best method to spam hasty touch? I only do this method when I'm trying to HQ something otherwise very difficult and have no HQ mats to use...

Inner Quiet -> Steady Hand -> Hasty x3, while using TotT if it pops -> Master's Mend -> Steady Hand -> repeat. Depending on luck, I may get to a high HQ rate, or I might not. The game is finicky and can have you fail 3-4 Hasty in a row, which is ridiculous considering 70% success on it with SH. Using this method I ALWAYS use TotT if it's up, where on a normal synth, I only use TotT if I'm at a transition point where my SH has worn out after my first rotation, or I'm in the process of building progress.

In my experience, Waste Not is not the time to be using Tricks of the Trade.

If it is a 70 or 80 durability recipe, what I do to start out is pop Inner Quiet, then use Careful Synthesis until I am one Careful away from finishing. Gamble with a Standard Touch whenever Excellent pops up during this phase.

At that point, pop Steady Hand and start using Hasty Touch, hitting Tricks of the Trade whenever it pops up as Good. Refresh Steady Hand as necessary, hitting Master's Mend 2 when it gets to 10 Durability. When I get back down to 30 or 40 Durability, I start to play with numbers in my head - trying to replace the 20 Durability Touch with a Great Strides->Advanced Touch combo, that is still covered by Steady Hand. That playing also tries to make the 30 Durability Touch from Hasty to Standard, or at least Basic (which is more likely to land than Hasty, even if it is the same Quality).

If it is a 40 Durability item, that is when I may break out the Waste Not, and will forego the Tricks of the Trade. If the IQ->GS->SH->ST->GS->ST->GS->ST method does not work (and it won't always work to HQ) but I really want the item to be HQ, I'll IQ->SH->WN->4Hasty->SH->WN->Basic Touch->BT->GS->ST. Same idea as before, getting as many Great Strides->Standard Touch combos at the end covered by Steady Hand, just with less CP (not using ToT) and less Durability to play with.

WN, IMO, really stops you from using ToT for those turns, as it really loses its cost-efficiency if you are not using Durability in those four turns it is active.

To be fair, the Great Strides+Standard Touch over and over is perfectly fine to do on lower materials that you'll still need later (around level 21 or 22 as a Weaver, I started being able to 100% cotton yarn like this and use a Careful Touch to finish it). I'm one of those leveling all crafting/gathering classes at once (now going up by 5 levels at a time for each, though from 1-20 I did it in 10s), and do use the Inner Quiet->Steady Hands->Hasty Touch (till a durability is 20/40 or down by 30 for higher durabilities unless it's Good) with tricks of the trade used on every good (unless durability is maxed) and using Steady Hands everytime it drops. Of course, I tend to increase progress till I'm within one step at first so I don't screw up at the end without enough durability (though I still do at times). And usually for the initial increases I use Steady Hands with the normal synthesis first (till I get Careful II anyways).

If you're patient, one way to do it is get the lvl 15 skills from other Disciplines then level what it is you want to concentrate on, There's also plenty of guides out there on how to use these cross skill abilities properly. This gets even easier if you can level culinarian to 37. Steady Hand II is just so so good.

For me Hasty touch is useless. I get it to hit 5% of the time. Sadly that's about right in an RnG based 50%.

I use Inner Quiet, Steady Hand, Waste not and four standard touch. If I need the other 20 for Dura it's there, if I only need 10 for Dura I can use Rumination and apply steady hand again, use a last Standard touch, then knock out the dura.

Because I have Weaver 50 I always use careful Synth II for the durability and depending on how far over I am it can cost me 3 tic's to get 100 progress on durability but if my gear is HQ and up to date, one or two tic's from 0 to 100. I never fail a synth. It's a matter of how much exper will I get making this or that. That said, I could apply the same process with a standard Synthesis. I always have the CP when using Rumination to get the steady hand and insure a synth.

Forward note: With Weaver and Leather to 50, Waste Not II (making 40 in to 80 by effect) and Careful Synthesis II I can't imagine I will have much trouble making any part HQ. Throw in Innovation and I will be doing it with NQ ingredients.

If you're not using Mom's SHII + Hasty touch method, you're not crafting to your maximum HQ potential.

SHII+Hasty Touch+Tricks of Trade+ Manipulation is the best means to consistently get your HQ% up.

You finish the synth with SHII + Great Strides + Innovation + Ingenuity + Byregots Blessing + Synthesis Actions

This is ESPECIALLY applicable in HQ'ing 40/40 synths with NQ mats.

Anyone who says Hasty touch is no good probably does not have SHII. Hasty touch cannot be consistently beneficial to RNG unless it is functioning at 80%, that 10% makes a HUGE difference for HQ2star synthesis

I"m not sure Mom should get credit, but Hasty Touch is key for making the most of durability and stacks of inner quiet.

I agree even with 80% you will have those combines where Hasty Touch fails four out of five times, then again, there are a lot where it's successful all of the time too.

I have had this happen as well. Hasty Touch failing a couple times times in a row at 80% happens, but the more cross-class skills you have, the less variation you will have in your synths. Tricks of Trade seems to be the hero here, where on longer synths will net you enough durability for a free manipulation. The problem comes when you have hasty touch failures AND no 'good' conditions pop-up, then you might be in trouble. The goal is to get your synth at 16-19%, and then set up your Byregot gambit, which should take care of the rest no problem, especially on a good condition.

SHII -> Great Strides -> if good or excellent, pop byregot's if not, continue gambit by adding Innovation and Ingenuity, which will reduce variance even more.

After some research I've found that comfort zone is especially useful in these synths, which will net you another 60+ durability to work with, enabling a waste not or another manipulation if need be. This will be the next cross-class skill I will be picking up.

Reclaim is an unsung hero here. If you do have those synths where your durability has been shot due to hasty touch failures, you can always reclaim for the 90% chance of recovering materials. This is especially prevalent when you are doing HQ 2 star synths which can run you 500k+ in mats

That is obvious, attempting a 2** HQ craft without Reclaim is like jumping off a plane without a parachute.
