Two new players looking for help

Hi!

My friend and I decided to give FF14 a try, but I think we will run into a problem.

I rolled an Arcanist and he will be rolling an Archer. I think he's going to get a different starting city then I got, so what is the easiest way to get to the same area to group up?

yep, two different cities. You'll have to wait until around level 15 to meet up

Until level 15 it's impossible. Because you start in Limsa Lominsa which as far as I can tell is impossible to leave/trave to until 15. You're also going to run into a problem in dungeons since both of you are rolling DPS.

One of you could bite the bullet and play a class in the main city. Conjurer and Lancer both start in Gridania. Only Marauder starts alongside Arcanist.

Either way once you get to 10 you can always switch classes so by 15 you can learn whatever class you want to really play.

When you reach lvl 10 you can travel to any city you want.

Just seen the post above 15? i was told by an npc it was 10, but could be wrong.

15 is the minimum but if you're doing quests around your area and everything you come across you'll likely be between 16 and 18.

You can still group together but, in order to be in the same area the best way is to follow the story line quests.

Ok, so either he picks Marauder or we wait to level 15. Also, why is two dps a problem for dungeons? Aren't dungeon groups 4 or 5 people? Or am I be trippin'?

Edit: Also, I rolled Arcanist so i could easily switch between Scholar and Summoner, is that a good idea or is White Mage just hands down better then scholar?

I agree. Or, and bear with with me, have a another player escort you to that city. Yes its a long walk but I escorted one player to another city so they could attune early on.

the light parties (tbh most dungeons) are 4 people.
Thing is though, for every group you need 1 tank, 1 healer and 2 dps. Tank and healer are by far the rarest classes played, which means you 2 being both dps, will spend a lot of time waiting to find a tank and healer ( with the duty finder, or shouting in the zone ) to be able to enter a dungeon.
If 1 of you would play a tank or healer, the waiting will be much shorter.
fi i am a tank, and if i hit the duty finder, i get a group within 5 mins max, and usually instant. If i play a dps alt it can take 30 mins easy.
But play what you think is the most fun, after all that's what a game is all about.

Yes, Brutallyn is correct. The wait time for 2 DPS characters is going to be astronomical. I haven't queued as a Tank but as a Healer, before level 30, I get instant dungeon groups.

Thanks for the info. Might alter our plans and tank healer combo it much sooner. I can switch to Arcanist anytime later if I want to to get Summoner and Scholar.
