This game feels so behind on dealing with the RMT issue
I don't think any company has found the definite way to get rid of rmt.
But i might not be up to date on these things.
Since you make it sound like they overlook some obvious solution, what do you propose?
Setup a server side application that acts as a spam blocker, the same way a client side add-on blocks spam tells from reaching players
The spam isn't the problem, it's merely a symptom.
Well it's annoying paying customers, this game isn't free. The task force will never catchup , there shouldn't even be a task force
In a long established game, you need a special task force to figure out where all the illegal gil has gone to.
In a brand new game, they should have had GMs actually reading the complaints people filed. Additionally, all they needed to do was have a GM log into each server for 15 mins. Spend 5 minutes in each city and just perma-ban those people who were shouting/spamming gil sites.
Walk outside to where there closest nodes are. Oh, a telporting character? Perma-banned.
The economy is now so wrecked from both the RMT and the legimate players having their gil corrected, that SE has put one foot in the grave on this game.
Bad Launch = hard to recover from
Lack of responsiveness = harder to recover from
Crushed Economy = very hard to fix
All of the above = there goes 1M+ subs
This game sold some 3,000,000 copies. I figured we'd see about 1,000,000 subs. If we keep 500,000 at this rate I'll be surprised.
Yeah SE are super rubbish when it comes to RMT, to this day even on XI i get /tells. I don't think GM;s do much, but my guess is the GM/Task Force are split between several games and thus they're just useless all together.
If I can teleport to several camps, towns and see several shouts and then go to common gathering nodes and see teleport/invisible gather hackers, clearly the GM's are not doing their job correctly, tbh should replace them with a more productive team, there is no excuse for it.
Those are some great points, I'm still surprised though because I would've thought the customer experience would've been SE's top priority; to make sure all the customers are happy. With all the competition out there in MMO space taking care of the customers is the number one priority, that's where referrals come from
SE needs to do what EME did and ban China from accessing the servers. There, problem solved. Tera doesn't have any gold sellers for that reason alone.
The only way to stop the RMT spam is to make it extremely undesirable to use their services. Coming up with that magic fix is easier said than done. So long as there are people who do not want to play by the rules there will always be those service-providers who will make it possible to cheat.
Sadly, doing so is a lot easier said than done. Even with blanket bans, there will be those that live in those areas, that do play by the rules, who would be punished for the wrong-doings of others.
So our current option is to dutifully report these irksome offenders and have a little patience.
Tera doesn't have any gold sellers because players can buy cash shop items and turn around and sell it for in game gold for other players.
country's areas aren't the issue and the economy is going to stay the way it is the money is here and theres no way to take it out + the problem is not the Rtm only! Is way beyond that and more dangerous than the RTM
That's the only real method, ban the source. For so long as the source has access, they will always be there. And as for the whole cash shop bit, they're in games that have cash shops where you can do the same exact thing. There is no "true" method of removing them from plaguing a game unless you make it so they cannot even connect. Now, if you have any other useful ideas to get rid of them, feel free to post them. Aside from chat filters which they get around. As for the bots, the game has poor security, I've ran CE(Cheat Engine) and had it look at the game's data. The game didn't close, or do anything. It should have automatically dcd me, or crashed the game. (Granted I did this before early access. If it detects it now, I wouldn't know. Not going to try.)
So, if it's still not detecting CE, it would be rather easy as hell for someone with the knowhow to POShack the game with the teleporting bots you already see. Granted that's only one method, I know there's more. Naked lala mining bot, go!
Better filtersare needed, faster action. Better anti abuse systems that isn't ban.
What stops RMT's the most is gamers not using them at all, and ignoring their existence. In my opinion, you buy from them, then your name, accounts, and information is perm banned.
Now that subs have kicked in though, I expect to see a huge drop in RMTers.
This, sadly as long as lazy/stupid people buy gill, RMT will stay, If no one bought gill, RMT have no reason to be here. it is a very simple solution to fix, yet the hardest thing to fix. So in reality gill buyers like the spam and want to be annoyed all day, every day so long as they have their quick fix.
It's very easy. Stop making money critical for in-game functions or make it easy to obtain and only used for trivial matters, and you'll see nobody will buy in-game money as they don't feel obligated to engage in activity to obtain a currency they feel gates them from game content.
You really can't blame gold sellers. Most Asian games have horrendous RMT issues because they make the economy so important to enjoying the game. In games where the economy is of marginal importance, RMT has no market.
If people could obtain everything in the game by just playing the combat content and the crafting/gathering was optional for those who like the minigames, RMT in this game would go broke.
my solution :
Simply charge and extra dollar per month for the game, that would hire a fair amount of people (gm's) who's job it would be to deal with it. Give the Gms more discretion to do things ( punishment starts small so as to protect wrongfully targeted players, but starts ramping up into long term bans for repeat offenders ).
its really that simple
Short term, SE are doing what they did in XI : play the long game. Spot players whose gil jumps a lot in one day, put them on suspension, track back where the gil came from. Once they find the supplier, ban them permanently, and reinstate the suckers who bought gil - or, sadly, those who made a lot of gil in large blocks by selling Titan runs and such like. That's the fallout from getting rid of GIL BUYERS.
My thoughts:
Anyone who gets over 50 blists in under 3 hours should be muted from say/shout/yell, with tells restricted to friends list until a GM reviews them. They should also be blocked from making new characters so they can't just crap out another "Asdfadsf Ghjkjghkg" without at least breaking out another account. That should put a heavy throttle on the RMTer's ability to advertise as well as mop up the spam.
Abuse prevention: Though I personally think the idea of one troll rallying 49 other trolls to blist abuse a conspiracy theory, just in case the 50 people who blisted the affected player should have their names & FC logged. If the GM review shows no RMT activity from the affected player the people that blisted them should be flagged and disciplined appropriately. Repeat offenders get suspended/banned.
And how about limiting shards to stacks of 99 on auction? Several people have over 10,000 cumulative shards up on auction on my server ATM. How could that possibly be legitimate? If the devs aren't going to police the bots could they at least throttle the rate at which they can dump their botted goods onto the market?
Economy 101, the supply and demand. If there is no demand, who would want to supply? At the end of table, it is impatient players that is not welling to put in efforts into mmorpg that feeding these RMTs. Tera is a bad exmaple, RMT wont survive in that game is because of its cash shops.
Get it straight.
Ha... great idea for a new (sorta) topic: Show Your Necro Thread.
I have not played 1 single MMO that did not have RMT. And I have played a LOT of mmo's. I have YET to see ANY MMO company find a way to stop them. The only way to stop RMT is if rich little schmucks stop buying gil/gold/whatever. Which wont happen.
Say whatever you want. I do play Tera before it goes to to free to play. It has an interesting system to allow a player to buy an item (gives 30 game days) from cash shop, then list it on in-game AH for in-game curreny. Tera has no RMT because it is game comapny that is actually selling the in game currency. RMT cant survive because they cant compete with game company. Get your fact straight.
The real effective method to stop RMT is to report the players you know that is buying gils from RMT. This is how Japanse players kills off RMT on their server. If you havent see the flaw in your idea, let me remind you:
This game is allowing you to change the language, I can play JP client on NA servers and you have freedom to change any type of client game is offering at any given time. On top the fact that they are going to have Chinese version FF14 soon, you are asking them to block China's ips? Find a word to describe yourself.
A quick Google search shows you are incorrect. Also: the new kid on the block - Wildstar - also sells in game currency in the same way:

So .. what facts were you presenting other than anecdotal evidence.
