Tanks with Ifrit/Garuda weapon...or even less?

Do you find it hard to tank a party with relics/+1? I do.

For example, I had a party with sch, blm, smn, for AK a couple hours ago, all with relic weapons/+1 while I only had an Ifrit scimitar. It was already pretty shaky before the first boss and by the time we worked our way through gargoyles, it was clear that the blm is hell bent on front loading all his spells on the first target I mark while the smn would throw every single aoe/dot he can on to every mob. I had to choose between barely winning aggro over the main target with focused combo with flash in between and still lose my threat on the other mobs or lose my main target if I push for more spread out enmity to keep up with the smn enmity.

At the second boss we killed the boss before the gnats appeared. The sch mentioned that this is the fastest demon wall kill he's had yet. However, past this point, it's clear the party doesnt care about any form of party anymore. The blm never slept so far so I opted to go for the lights monsters first but my marks were ignored. Blm would target whatever he please and the smn would still go full force on aoe while still attacking my mark. Halfway point I just gave up on running back and forth and refused to chase after things if they peel if off me.

Now, the kicker part. We were at anantoboga and I chose to tank it at corner instead of parallel to the starting position with tail pointing to a wall because other than me, everyone is ranged. Soon enough, my health started going past half health even after I used mitigations and I started looking at the healer sch. He was casting ruin over and over (I'm guessing due to being hyped over that demon wall speed kill). At this point anantaboga started casting catastrophe, I got some reprieve..right? Wrong. I get no heals and I immediately died seconds after he finished casting. The sch raised me but at this point I was fed up. I just ran around avoiding things and letting them deal with anantaboga until we wiped.

At this point they started insulting me and how I did so far through out the dungeon. I finally talked and mentioned what killed me but they denied it and blamed me for eating catastrophe (I was already at 1000/5200 when he was casting and i was already behind the pillar due to corner). It wasnt catastrophe that killed me. The summoner started saying his titan could tank better than me. So I said go ahead and do that. They closed the boss room as I was walking towards it and fought without me. Long while later they wiped. I asked them if they still wanted to do that again and they were adamant. This time I was infront of the boss room and saw how the battle went on. "Watch how I position this titan you bad tank". And then they proceeded to put titan where I was.

The titan still died and they still had to dance around with anantaboga with 20% hp left but they won. Total time so far was 55 mins taken and they felt like they won over me and one of them mentioned that they will tell others.

It's essentially impossible to hold aggro over relic+1 DPS with Ifrit weapon if they aren't helping you a little. If they're AEing immediately/attacking different targets, etc., it will be physically impossible for you to tank everything.

Majority of your post seems to be about stupid people being stupid rather than anything to do with gear levels.

But as for your original question, it's easy with single target relic users that can focus fire. Aoe/split targets though and things can get messy, especially if they unload right at pull. With ifrit weapon I could usually manage aggro well enough, though there are many times when you'll lose threat for a second (and due to stupid hate lag the enemy may run away only to immediately turn back to you once reaching destination). Since you're WAR liberal use of Overpower usually saves the day, and in my experience it's often not worth trying to go for Maim/Storm's Eye combo because you really need the threat from BB/Overpower going constantly. With a geared out group things die fast anyway.

DPS are responsible for managing their threat even when they outgear you.

If people are so confident that they aren't paying attention to your marks, then mark 1 enemy and tank it. Let them kill the rest. If someone dies, tell the group to start following your marks and managing their threat.

It sounds like you were pretty frustrated and weren't having fun, but since the healer raised you (after letting you die), you could have resumed tanking. Sometimes you encounter party hate, which is people saying or doing stupid things that destroy the morale of the party and can cause you to fail the dungeon. You're a tank, so you can tank party hate if you want.

If you don't want to take it, then tell people to manage their threat, follow your marks, and let you tank. If they won't, quit the dungeon. A 15 minute penalty is better than playing with people who aren't fun.

Maybe the infinite hate button we have only works on other party members.

Seriously tho, managing hate is as important for you as it is for them. I've tanked AK plenty of times with my +1 friend and he never pulls aggro off me because he knows how to manage it. The only reason you can ever lose aggro and it be your fault is if you literally have 0 idea what you're doing or a healer pulls the mob off you without overhealing (which is basically the same as the first). If DPS is unloading all over the mobs, especially ones you don't have marked as #1, then let them tank it. If they start complaining, leave. The 15 minute lock-out is worth it when the rest of the run will take so much longer and you won't have any fun doing it. I've sort of given up DFing AK and just run it with 3 people from my FC whenever I need to, helps a lot since it eventually becomes second nature how to do your job in that dungeon and how everyone else does their's.

If someone with their +1 isn't giving you any time to establish threat there is very little you will be able to do plain and simple. Best suggestion I can give is to form a premade group or run with your FC and make them aware that you need a few seconds to get threat.

Sadly you won't be able to hold aggro off of Relic +1 with an Ifrit weapon if the DPS are half decent.

All of our threat mods are damage % based, so the more damage you do the more threat you hold. Since there's no static threat mods besides your raw damage output, having a weapon with 7 less attack severely gimps your threat generation. If those people have relic +1 they might even have AF+1/allagan in which case you're just screwed on threat. That armor adds a lot more +str and +int than AK greens or Darklight gear, which ups their damage even further.

If they're not willing to watch their threat and tone down their damage, then it's up to them to deal with the mobs.

Geared dps can pull off most anything but the exceptionally talented/geared tanks. My BLM is barely into DL gear and with a good run of procs nothing can keep hate off of me. You know what happens? I throttle back and let the tank do his job. People do not understand this is not WoW. Tanks actually have to work for it in FFXIV.
I have leveled a tank just to understand how tanking works and the frustration they experience. Anyone who bitches about tanks not holding hate needs to do the same and learn why they are having problems holding when you are going all out before a tank gets anything off but a shield lob/tomahawk(Bards come to mind......).

As I first read your post it seamed like a group that was trying to farm AK decided to take you along with them. But, it seams that they are a bunch of jerks.

I usually just leave. In my younger years I would just do dumb sh*t and hope the others would leave, but that ends up hurting you as well in the long run. Leave, and be done with it.

I have Garuda and vs relic +1 I don't really have any issues holding threat vs them. I definitely notice that I have to be more on my game in tab-target threat generating but its really not to terrible.

Though a BLK who front loads his dmg is just a dumbass and is someone i will let die.

Also if they are running relic +1 then i would assume they are in full DL + Mythology gear in which it should be zero problem to three man that dungeon. The fact that they died in there is pathetic.

I'm currently rocking my Grand Company weapon (I've had terrible luck with primals) and my FC BLM has his Relic +1. It's not EASY holding threat with him constantly trying to steal it (a gentleman's game we play) but for the most part I perform admirably and we have smooth and fluent runs. In addition to this we sometimes run with a SMN who puts DoTs on every mob and so on. The best way to deal with it is to experiment with a rotation that works. However, the people you were running with were purposefully sabotaging your attempts and relying on their gear to carry them. Honestly they were probably laughing it up in vent or something just having fun messing with a random tank. I wouldn't worry too much about this incident. But with an Ifrit weapon you should be able to tank for Relic +1 DPS who are cooperating and attacking marked targets, letting you hit first, etc.

I leave 'lolleet' groups like that to find a new tank, if they don't want to (focus target) or burn down mobs correctly, why should I waste my time? I couldn't care less about winning the instance if it means having to put up with dopes like that. You don't want to play a party how its supposed to be played, GL tanking Mr. BLM! How's that wait for ya? Long enough? I hope it is~ cause you're gonna wait a biiiiit longer :P

Read over some of the butthurt baddy dps saying 'l2tank' xD Probably don't even realize there is a hate meter. Just leave if you encounter people like that. Well, give em a few chances, but odds are if they haven't bucked up by the first boss, they'll be baddies through and through.

The only thing I can say is go into sword oath instead if you can't hold aggro there is no reason to be in shield oath
