Any tips for MP issues?

Heya healers, normally in other mmo's im a tank or a dps class, but I decided to start off as a CONJ/WHM. I have been doing pretty well in dungeons up to Brayflox and Titan story quest. I am able to keep heals up on the party except I run out of MP really fast. Titan took a few tries (10), and im not sure if it was due to my inability to keep heals due to MP or because of the group's formation. We used the edge strategy and that is what got us through, but even so it was tough to keep heals up with little to no mp @_@
I use Ethers a lot whenever I can, but they only keep up 1-2 more heals for me.

WHMs have a lot of issues with mana. In endgame content it helps to be running with at least 1 BRD for their mana regen ballad. Unfortunately it won't get much better for you. :(

Big thing is to avoid overhealing, you want to use mostly Cure, and keep Cure II to Freecure procs or emergancy. Make use of regen, for a tank taking damage, or for dps that has taken damage but shouldn't again for a while.

Use shroud of saints earlier in a fight and you'll be able to use it again later on.

Don't use Medica unless 3+ people need healing, or 2+ and its time sensitive for hitting both.

Shouldn't need to depend on bard, I tell bards I run with to only mage ballad if I'm around 1k MP

With Eithers and Shroud, it will actually get easier if you just keep an eye on things.

Thanks for the in depth tip, Nailkita. I have been using CureII rather than CureI but once I got to those two dungeons, i found myself learning to use CureI and waiting for CureII, but I still get the MP issue because I'm trying to Esuna everyone in the party. Should I keep Esuna to just myself and the Tank? And what would you consider a good time to Medica? During the Titan instance I only use it when people were 57-70% hp.

A few tips:

Cure 1: Your main healing spell, always. This should be your go-to spell for normal damage being thrown around the party.

Regen: Your 2nd main healing spell. Should always be kept up on the tank, and occasionally tossed onto DPS or yourself in fights that have random single target damage being thrown around.

Cure 2: Should be used in heavy damage situations against the tank. However keep in mind that most bosses will have spike damage followed up by something that gives you a little downtime to heal. You must gauge the right time to use this. Most of the time you can cast Cure 1 instead. Also great to use when Cure 1 procs the free buff.

Medica: Good for your first AE healing spell, not great, but will get the job done for the levels you receive it and actually need it. Keep in mind the range isn't very big.

Medica 2: Your best AE healing spell (imo). Has a bigger range then Medica and adds a Regen type effect to it as well so you don't have to worry about topping people off after some nasty AE damage.

Cure 3: Situational. The mana cost is only worth it if you actually have people stacked up. Typically not your go to spell if you happen to be running with random people. Great for specific AE fights where you know people will be stacking on top of each other (such as Garuda for example).

Benediction: Your O-**** button, saved for the tank most of the time, and sometimes yourself. Should only be used in extreme cases.

Shroud of Saints: This is your mana regen buff, and should be used accordingly. It also reduces your current enmity by half, but for the most part should only be used to regain your mana back. You must get a feel for this spell, as the amount it regenerates will vary with your gear/level/etc. Use it when you know you will not waste any of the mana it gives back. For example if you are sitting at 4000/4500 mana there's no point in using it, you will waste the buff. However if you have maybe 3000/4500 mana, now would be a good time to use it, so you can start the cooldown, and have it back up when you need it again.

If someone keeps getting a debuff on them like a poison every time I remove it, I just toss regen on them. It's much more cost efficient than spaming Esuna every 2 seconds. If they get slowed, then yes please Esuna that. Also if they have heavy and are trying to run from something... xD everything else you don't have to worry about so much, unless you're just bored. I use medica when 3 or more people are below 70% HP. Other times I'll just cure the lowest person and toss Regen on the other, then go back to healing the tank.


I use shroud once I'm below 65% or so of MP. By the time the CD is off I'll be around 25% mana left, and bumped back to 40% :p

Depends on the debuff being thrown around. Debuffs such as Paralyze, Reduced Movement Speed, or Reduced Healing Effects should be removed on the tank first, then yourself, then any dps.

As for Medica it depends on how much it heals and how much you feel comfortable with leaving the party's HP at. You mention using it on Titan at 57-70% HP, is that enough to top people off, or keep them at a safe amount for the next big AE that hits? If you feel comfortable, make no changes, but if you aren't comfortable with leaving people a little low on health, you may want to reconsider using other options.

For Medica as I stated before, because the MP cost is about 3 cures worth, you want to make sure it's doing that much healing. Also keep in mind it heals each person a bit less than a cure.

Here's what I put in my WHM guide for debuffing: In brayflox some of the issue is more people grouping up too much and being needlessly poisoned, if they're not dying I would just prioritize on self and tank.

Silence (Self) - this should be a no-brainer, but have Echo Drops on hand in case of silence.

Disease - Disease doesn't come up much until the lvl 50 dungeons but it sucks, your heals that usually do 1k+ will be doing only around 100 HP so cleanse this before curing.

Poison - It hits REALLY hard at lower levels, on the tank however, you will want to cure and then hit esuna as soon as you can that way you are at less risk of the dot and the mobs from taking him/her out.

Paralyze - It’s annoying, and on top of interrupting actions it can also stun you as you try to run out of fiery death.

Pacification(On the tank) - Pacification prevents weapon skills from being used, which for the tank means no cooldowns and no enmity gains. (Note Warriors using Beserk will have Pacification on them frequently so this can be hard to judge)

Pacification/Silence (Damage Dealers) - Keep in mind Silence isn’t as important to cleanse from Pugilist/Monk or Lancer/Dragoon, the same goes for Pacification for Thaumaturge/Black Mage and Arcanist/Summoner.

There are a few other Damage over Time debuffs that you can cleanse if there’s not a lot of other damage going on. (Depending on the fight they may be same priority as poison).

Blind - While this hampers the dps, you may want to cleanse this on the Tank to help with Enmity, otherwise low priority.

Otherwise, prioritize curing over cleansing.

When there are multiple healers in the group you should discuss who will focus on Esuna, especially on high debuff with high damage fights.

Once you have Medica II becareful with it for threat but it's a better option than Medica, Medica will then be best used during BIG hits where you'l use Medica II and then Medica right after.

#1: Don't over heal. Let the tank take a few hits. Sit there and let your mana regen a bit.

#2: Use freecure whenever posisble. You should have it by now, or very soon.

#3: Get hi-ethers when possible. You burn through them, but if you use them rather early, you may be able to get one more in a battle to help your mana pool.

This does get really hard, but later in end game, it gets easeir when people are geared, and more importantly, you become geared. Bards help out a lot as well.

You'll get the Shroud skill later on which is a life saver. I think somebody already mentioned it but use a pot early on. Later you'll use shroud but in Brayflox i was having the same problems and i started using my first pot at 90% MP then i'll always have my pots off CD when i need a boost later on. And just don't overdo things though this can be hard with some groups. Use regen mostly on the DPS and make use of stoneskin to reduce damage and your healing output.

Later on you have less MP issues since you can use shroud at 90% then again at 70% then a pot at 90% and shroud again at 80% and so on. If you plan timings for mana regen over using it when things get desperate you should have no MP issues. Of course Bards in your party make your job easy since you can request Mage's Ballad from them to boost MP.
