I'd say its not worth it to make NQ. The 2 star materials cost about 900 Tomes of Philosphey which is generally the price of a darksteel item. The NQ version is slightly worse or comparable with materia to a darksteel item while the HQ version is signifigantly better than the darksteel version. I don't recommend making these if you don't plan on HQing.
Im not talking about the gears (ds armor, hauby, astral chocker etc) but about the mat for it (ds ingot, rg ingot)
And yes im aiming for hq. But you sure know that making hq mats is much more difficult than making hq gear for the said mats

It's one or two synths. You may as well shoot for HQ, it's not going to hurt anything.
If you're crafting 2 star gear you should have all of your crafts at 50, or at the very least the more important ones.. I can HQ 40 dura 2 star stuff easily.
For me it's prophetic.
If I can't make the parts HQ, I can't make the item HQ.
When I can make the parts HQ, making the item is an after thought.
So far all my green and star HQ items were random flukes from the RnG. I have yet to get my suit to where I can make them because I used a precise formula.
I have all craft capped. The thing is when i check how much quality an hq rose gold nugget give, it surprised me that 2 rose gold nuggets only contributed to 200 of 2900 total quality for rose gold ingot. This is way harder than 1.0 where you can get 1/3 of quality.
I don't know how you guys have so much difficulty with making 2 stars I was able to hq 95% of my items when havinge cookoing at 37 gsm 50 and rest at 15 it's pretty easy. The 5% being and unlucky eng moments on 40durability items
Is it worth it to sell? Yes, if they actually sell on your server.
Is it worth it to craft a 2 star item that requires the item...it helps
It also depends on what item you are trying to craft. If you are trying to make a vanya robe then you have to make vanya silk robe lining first. That has 80 durability which is easier to HQ than the 40 durability mats (at the least it gives you a second chance to hq the item). On the flip side if you were trying to make a vanya sash then it straight up requires a vanya silk so it's better if you do HQ.
I have a lot of trouble HQing the 40 dura ones because RNG is a bitch. No problem HQing the 80 dura items though.

Note 2 - If you are doing a 1 star and are higher than 15/20 durability you can add in another Hasty Touch. On a 2 star, you want 25/30 so you have 2 steps to finish the item.
At this point you prep for the finish, what you do depends on your remaining CP.
Your remaining CP = Current CP + Remaining Comfort Zone ticks. Its 8 per tick, so if you have 3 left, for example you would need 111 CP for a 1 star @ 15 Dur, or 96 for a 2 star @ 25 Dur for the Super Combo (Ideal)
135/120 (2 star) CP - Super Combo: Steady Hand > Great Strides > Ingenuity > Innovation (If good, Byregots early) > Byregot's Blessing, Standard Synth or 2 Careful Synthesis II (2 star) = 100% Quality. If an Excellent Pops after Great Strides, Take it. Guaranteed 100% and less stress.
127/117 (2 star) CP - Mega Combo: Steady Hand > Great Strides > Ingenuity > Byregot's Blessing, Standard Synth or 2 Careful Synthesis II (2 star) = 100% Quality.
105/100 (2 star) CP - Risky Combo: Great Strides > Ingenuity > Byregot's Blessing, Standard Synth or 2 Careful Synthesis II (2 star) = 80-100% Quality, with a 10% chance to fail.
103/83 (2 star) CP - Mid Combo: Steady Hand > Ingenuity > Innovation > Byregot's Blessing, Standard Synth or 2 Careful Synthesis II (2 star) = 50-100% Quality.
85/70 (2 star) CP - Low Combo: Steady Hand > Ingenuity > Byregot's Blessing, Standard Synth or 2 Careful Synthesis II (2 star) = 50%-89% Quality.
