Amdapor Keep - Demon Wall - WHM tips please!?

Hi guys/gals,

OK so I have ran through AK a few times now however despite completing AK I still have a hard time with the demon wall.

I have no problem at all healing until the bee's come, at that point it becomes crazy as I AOE heal > get aggro > die...

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for the second half of the fight?

During his cast time where he is about to push the group back take that time to cast stoneskin on yourself and as soon as you see the bees aggro you cast Shroud of Saints.

Also your tank should be tanking the bees, and at least one bee should die within 5 seconds.

Try and figure out whether or not your tank will be able to keep the bees off of you beforehand. If you think they'll have things under control, you can be a little less liberal with your heals for the first few seconds of the bee phase while the tank grabs them. If you're not confident in their ability to pull them away from you, resign yourself to the fact that you're the new tank.

What I liked to do when I was starting AK and knew I was going to tank the bees was to pop Divine Seal and Medica II right before the second Repel. Then, as I was running back out of the poison after the repel, toss a Regen on myself. The Medica II + Regen heals a decent amount per tick when augmented by Divine Seal, and then it's a matter of spamming Cure on yourself as soon as the bees decide that you'd make a delicious treat.

AK is my favorite dungeon to run as whm. I just strafe left then strafe right and keep the heals going. During bee phase i just keep strafing rotation rotating SS/cure1/cure2/medica2/regen, and pop shroud of saints. I do not know if this is the best way, but it works for me.

Consider a Medica2 early; you get two repetitions of the pattern before bees come. As you hit the end of the second pattern, start using single target Cure spells, if you can. That will allow others to pick up initial threat. Move into Medica (no regen ticks) and use Shroud to lower threat.

Beyond that, Medica or Medica 2 every time you move back to center; you should be fine.

Or you can just go with people who are geared and kill the wall before the bees even spawn ;)

When i first ran this dungeon i was having similar problems. When the bees spawned i started to panic and forget where i should be standing and well it never ended well. The other party members will normally be able to pick up the bees even if they initially aggro on you. I normally pop a medica II and then hide from the bees on the side where the bee will be LB'd and killed fast. The other bee has to move quite a bit to get to me so i have time to notice it if it does come for me. After that just the odd cure and regen when needed and watch the floor.

I agree with the precedent comments, and I add one advice:
I've been running quite a lot AK recently, and the only issue in that dungeon for whms is aggro during bosses.
For every single health point you heal, you get 1 aggro "point". The tank gets aggro only by attacking a mob, the new adds are not hating him, but the whm gets aggro from all the mobs by healing anyone, so a new add will aggro whm if he heals, but won't aggro the tank if the tank doesn't hurt him.
When the bees spawn, don't spam Medica-Medica II, just go on healing with Cure, using Cure II as few times as possible, just when you can Freecure.
Don't overheal (don't heal when HP is full) and don't use Regen. Regen is the most useless whm skill, I've never used it, not even with Garuda HM.
When an adds spawns, try not to heal until the tank gets to hit him a few times, unless he is under 50% HP.

I only have trouble healing at the bees if I have a regen on someone or screw up and use Medica II right before the 2nd push.

Right before the bees, at the pushback I Medica to top everyone off then reposition after the push. My pally tank sister uses whatever that is that prevents her from being pushed back and then flashes the bees and maintains hate as the DD uses LB on one of the bees and they burn it down and switch to the next. I then just do the purple line dance and medica II and DOT the wall.

If we have a good enough damage setup we ignore the bees completely and burn down the wall.

You're doing it wrong. Regen ticks for 150 potency every three seconds for 21 seconds. That's 1050 potency over the spell's duration. Cure1 is 400 potency.
Regen doesn't do as much burst healing as Cure1 or Cure2, obviously. But it heals for way more.

I didn't say "it's the most weak", I said "useless".
This is because you'll never need Regen, if the situation is bad you use Medica II.
Regen takes too much aggro, you lose far more than what you gain.
I never use Regen, never used against primals HM, nor in dungeons.
It's simply useless.
If you use Regen against primals you'll raise the probability of being hit by Ifrit's Eruption, by Garuda's little whirlwind or being closed in the rock by Titan.

Another idea to consider:

Put regen on all 4 players right before the bees spawn: then rotate between medica 2, holy, medica: the stun actually makes it easier to heal and you don't have to worry about moving out of a red circle.

(and you're doing a little dps to the wall to help out/kill bees aswell)

I tried it already, but stun is like sleep: the first time it lasts several seconds, the second time something like 10 seconds, then it lasts like 2 or 3 so it's useless, and when mobs recover you are really really really really dead XD
And you'd also have to do Medica II - Cleric Stance - Holy - Cleric Stance and so on, wasting lots of time.
And, Holy takes something like 500-600 MPs and Medica II 400-500, a full DL + Relic whm has something like 5000 MP maybe (I have 4000-4500, don't remember)
It's not possible.

I cast medica II and wait until tank grabs aggro before popping SoS. If you pop it immediately, it wont do you much good because you would be the only person who has aggro. :)

Whitemage guide ... That I used when I had bad gear (few days ago)

-Right After the Last Sides purple AOE ... Use medica I till you have all ur party members with full hp

-After the repel that is followed by bee's spawn ( DON'T HEAL \ DON'T AOE HEAL\ DON'T REGEN - because if you do any heal on tank\DPS in the same time Bees spawn you'll have alot of aggro) ! for 2-3Seconds till tank\off tank has aggro ..... this also will help you at Garuda ( When Sisters phase Starts )

-Start casting Medica II Followed by Medica I As much as you think is enough ... try to Regen\Single heal the Tank if he's taking much damage!

-You need to pre-move to the place that will have no AOE Attack ... ( Like immedately after repel stay at the Sides ... after MID AoE go to the MID and continue your job )...
After Bee's death just return to your old rotation of healing ! The hard part is done

If you do exactly what I said you won't even need the Shroud (-50% Aggro) ...

That fight is really easy: Don't heal, if you dont need to.

You start the fight in Cleric Stance and you are not going to leave it, until the 2nd Repel.
So you DPS all the time, just before the 2nd Repel comes heal everyone to 100%, without Medica2.

Now (still in Repel cast time) pop Shroud, because you need the MP since you have been dealing damage until now.
Be patient now, everyone will have around 80-90% HP (Repel +max 1tick of purple fun) its not your time to heal.

Once DDs and the Tank have the Bee(s) under control Heal them up (Shroud should be still up at this point), it shouldnt even matter how you heal then, I just cast medica2 followed by swiftcast medica1 what is basically the worst thing you can do enemity-wise but it doesn't matter anymore.

Bees are dead now, get everyone to at least 80%, finish your healing up with medica2 and start the cleric stance fun again until the wall is dead.

You'll want to rethink that. Regen is, without a doubt, the most useful skill that WHM has. It's extremely cheap in MP. It allows you to top off people with relative ease. It helps negate non-dispelable DoTs like Firestream. It helps regenerate HP between your casts. So on and so forth.

Additionally, no, using Regen will not raise the probability of you being hit by attacks. It's always a random target that is not the tank (and in the case of Eruption, not in melee range), unless there are no applicable targets available, in which case it will go for the tank (or in Eruptions, melee).

As for OP, realize that HoTs cause threat, whether the person is at max HP or not. If you're using Medica 2, you're causing a HUGE amount of threat on yourself the second those Gnats spawn. Try to use abilities such as Medica and Cure until the Gnats have been picked up by the tank, and then you can begin using HoTs.

This is exactly what NOT to do. Regen is the most useful spell whm has WHEN USED PROPERLY! i.e. regen on tank before pull or adds spawning is going to result in a bad time and prolly what this guy did so he completely avoids using it.

If you time regen properly it is the best spell whm has. Do not use Medica 2 unless its absolutely needed when shroud of saints is ready.

Yeah, don't start aoe healing off the bat, make sure everyone is topped off before the bees come out. Heck, cast a medica 2 a good time before and start your stoneskins on everyone. Limit break one of the adds and have the tank pick up the other one, otherwise give it a bit before you try to aoe heal at all.

you realize that medica 2 pulls agro also right? Eruption should be interrupted, whirlwind is random? and so is rock on titan? Maybe im wrong but saying regen is useless is very foolish.

anyways, if ur tank isn't la suck..

just keep regens on people, ensuna if needed, time the heals...left, mid, left, mid then med 2 and repeat, when adds come up instant cast holy for stun, tank picks up bees, ur DD LBs 1 and instantly kills it, 1 bug left, keep the wall focused so u don't get blown offT...

shoot a few times I had really good groups, wall was 1/4 hp before bees popped, we ignored them and just killed the wall lol

Ive done this fight with nothing but regen and medica 2 spam after repels. SoS is your friend when bees spawn. Aggro has never been an issue on boss fights in AK. The idea is to dps as much as possible on demonwall while also healing....the person saying regen is useless has no idea.
