I love this game, has been a fun time for me and the family. As of 2 hours ago, we both canceled out 90 subs because i can no longer play this game. I can only assume its from poor programming on SE side, but here we go. I build a PC specifically to play this game. the PC was right at a year old when beta phase 3 came around. everything worked fine, then in beta 4 it melted my video card, almost literally, seeing other people having trouble with the same card, and the already obvious damage, i chucked that card for a new more efficient, slightly less powerful card. worked like a dream now a month after release, 1 day after another maintenance, now my PC shuts off completely if i play the game for more than 5 min. even on the lowest settings. my card isnt overheating. and pc works fine with all other games. People are telling me its my PSU, my 600W 1 year old PSU that somehow died overnight while the PC was off. I doubt it, but hey who knows. Everytime i think i'm making headway something else . goes wrong. I for one will miss my friends and the experiences, but not the headache. So once again, thanks for the memories. Peace

Have you tried resetting the cmos..I was having problems were the game was crashing my pc and thought was my video card and upgraded to a better. Still crashed, I ended up resetting cmos and flashing bios, fixed the issue.

Sorry your not giving any tech specs to resolve the issues with the community.
But if 98% of player play without issue you have something setup wrong.
I had to Flash my Cmos,
Flash my video card.
update my video card driver and now no crashing at all.
Finally there is PS3 and soon to be PS4 support. Where if hardware fails hope you got warranty. -

This game just seems to run odd in some way, I mean before the game was released I had no issues at all and this was with my old pc before I built my new one that runs all my games fine, now FF also runs fine for me...providing i don't run it on max resolution that is, I don't get any FPS drop but instead I get a hell of a lot of stuttering to the point that as I'm trying to run forward for example...I seem to skip forward ever so slightly and it happens too much to the point where it hurts my eyes.

It's not SE's fault you melted your card. all you had to do was set the framerate limit, which you should have, and you probably needed to dust out your case. No video card under factory settings should be melting even under constant 100% load unless it's coated in dust/airflow is blocked or you overclocked it.
Sorry you're quitting, but it sounds to me the problems are yours, not SE's. You shouldn't be suprised that this community is mostly smart enough to know you're not telling us everything, and it's probably because you know deep down that this isn't SE's / the game's fault. -

As others have said, games don't break hardware. When you build a computer you need to do proper stress testing to see if anything has issues under full load. PSUs are indeed extremely common issue in custom PCs because it is something people tend to try and save money on to get more expensive GPU/CPU, but that is the worst mistake you can make. I've seen more than enough PSUs breaks after just 1-2 days of use, and it can easily happen while your computer is off. If that occurs it likely just means that it cracked when you hit the power button, as that moment uses up a very large amount of power and in a poor unit can easily cause failure.

Haha, OP reminds me of the time I replaced 5 different GPUs back in 1.0... This game does do horrible things to your video card if you play on max and don't have appropriate cooling installed sadly. =\

I know for some people this is a touchy topic but may i suggest as you love the game so much that you may consider another option.
Get a PS3. It is cheap the game will run on it without all the headaches. I know it will not look as good and it has a few drawbacks but it is still an option.
I play on PC and my wife plays on PS3 she uses pad to play, you can use kb if you prefer so i have heard but you can't use the PC UI, She uses kb to chat and uses a mouse on menu's and the odd other thing here and there as needed.
I am not sure if you can use a PC account on PS3 so you may have to pay for a new game and start over.
Also when the game comes out for PS4 people on PS3 will get the game for free to play on the PS4.
Just a thought. -

No software can "break" fully working, and properly configured hardware, simply by using it to 100% of it's capability. Unless it is changing firmware/bios settings and changing the voltage and overclocking the card etc... Which FFXIV is not doing!!! ¬__¬
A properly designed system CAN run at 100% full load and still NOT overheat - if it has been tested/built properly!!!!!
If your system breaks while playing a very demanding piece of software it is simply because it could not handle being used to it's full potential. The software can't be blamed for this. The PC would have broken / crashed any time you ran it at 100% load. Many games don't run at 100% load 100% of the time.. (which is what a stress test does) this game is just very demanding on the GPU. It basically pushes your GPU to the MAX. If there are any cracks in your system, this game will expose them. -

Hey man, I had the same problem in the past with a different game after upgrading everything except my psu, which ironically was 600 as well. Pc kept shutting down etc. As the beta phases move forward they end up optimizing their game and bringing it up to the graphical and processing standards its meant to be at. During beta phases theyre never at full optimization. I honestly suggest if you can afford to, pick up a 750 psu and I can almost guarantee you wont trip out on overload. In the end this is your choice but I suggest giving it a try as im speaking from personal past experience as well.

Before buying a PSU, why not try running a GPU stress test app, and see if it can pass that without crashing / restarting. Also a CPU stress test would be a good idea also. This will confirm if the hardware is fully working or if it's something else software related. FurMark & prime95 are good ones.

Most of the video tech support problems are one of the following
- unsupported video hardware
- extremely underpowered video hardware and user is complaining about bad performance
- Overclocked their card too much

None of these problems would be SE's fault. No game can make your card melt, only your configuration or lack of maintenance can. Even in 1.0 when it had no frame limiter, your card can't go over 100% load, and if your card can't handle being at 100% load there is a problem with your setup or you aren't maintaining your PC (blowing the dust out). -

People seem to think bigger numbers is better and unless you are planing on going crossfire or sli you do not require a 750 or 800 or 1200 PSU. This is one part that quality matters, people need to some research on their PSU as a junk PSU can cause all kinds of wanky problems from restart to card damage etc. You especially need to be wary if you are buying a prebuilt pc too.Quote:
