This is how an MMORPG handles attempts to hack

Blizzard has locked the Battle.net account <email has been deleted for protection> due to an unusual change in its access pattern.

If you recently changed your connection pattern, you can unlock your account with a simple password reset. Visit the Password Reset page to begin the process. The form can also be reached by clicking “Can’t log in” on any Battle.net login page.

I would hope SE implements something like this.

My SE account hasn't been hacked, but I'm sure all those who got their account compromised would have loved SE to send a warning that their account has been compromised.

What I don't like about blizzard is, their password isn't case sensitive!

SE already does this, have done so since 2002. Using a token bypasses this lockout and people you know you let use your account can add their IP to it and bypass the lockout.

I got an email similar to this when I first logged into ff14 arr, it locked me out the account and sent me an email telling me to reset my password on the site. This was due to suspicious activity, aka, I changed my pass because I forgot, totes suspish. But in all reality they have a similar system with the system blocking the account from logging in and sending an email to the account holder to reset it.

Se is doing this since 2002.... nothing new learn to get better information

Yeah, seems like SE already has that figured out. This happens every time someone in my family accesses the game outside of my house.

I know this is the case if you do not have a keyfob. Hell using different IP's in the same state triggers it. But then how the hell are accounts getting hacked? Does the IP lockout not work on trial accounts?

It does - Which means people that get hacked are either Phished, gave out info (bought gil) or have an infection of some kind. This is why every site you register for says very clearly: "A strong UNIQUE password."

I received one of those emails from Blizzard a few years back and I haven't played WoW since beta.

Do you know what Vanilla WoW's response to getting hacked? Too F'n bad.

After the first time my wow account was hacked and lost everything they restored it and i bought a security token and changed my password. While the token was on it's way in the mail my account was hacked again and they told me they would no longer be restoring my account. I told them since they couldn't keep my information secure that they needed to delete the account permanently and they said no. I said fine, at least delete all of my personal information, credit card and email from the account. They said sure. To this day i get weekly emails from blizzard that my account is showing suspicious activity. This was all before Cataclysm came out.

Totally how a business should be run.
