BLM Crit for 1.2k+ ??

So i was only hit 50 last night, i'm playing a BRD.
I was running through AK all day today, got like 1k tomes and during my travels i came across few BLMs (fairly geared i guess, 3-4 DL pieces and primal weapons).

I'm obviously pretty gimped, gear wise, im aware of that. I dont have a single DL piece, the best stuff i have are these greenies that drop in AK.

So i was playing Foe for our BLMs all day long, and when i asked one of them "do you feel the difference with my song enabled?", one of them replyed "yeah, now it's 1235 crit instead of 1029".
I was like wtf, my bard can barely hit the 600 mark. And even that, with all my buffs up.

BLMs really that OP?? I did notice the target's bar fly down like crazy, is that because they are much more geared then me and i will dps like a mofo once i get my stuff going or am i to roll a BLM now ? >.<''''

Im afraid to imagine what relic blm dps like...

Do I really have to be the one that points out 600 damage twice in 3 seconds is the same as 1200 damage once in 3 seconds?

This is an example, you can extrapolate from it.

1.2K is an average darklight+relic crit against titan. I've seen a relic (non+1) + demagague BLM crit for 1.8+ on titan, now THAT was an eye opener. Meanwhile the BLM in full darklight and a relic was only critting for 1.2K so we couldn't figure out why or how that came to be but suffice it to say 1.2K on a BLM is not that big a deal.

In regards BLM vs BRD it should be pointed out BLM dps is highly variable and inconsistentdue to it's reliance on thundercloud and firestarter procs to freecast thunder IIIs and Fire IIIs wheras BRD have a pretty consistent, and i might say, very high DPS output. If yo uare being out dps by a BLM you are probably playing BRD wrong. Ask other BRDs what thir highest DPS skill rotations are and try to find out wether you are using your skills in a wrong order.

The difference was probably one mage using raging strikes.

Anyways, BLM is pretty good stationary damage. It takes a hit in mobility but it's not always that bad because oftentimes you'll have a proc and scathe to weave in between movement.

The problem as was said already was the RNG nature and how Firestarter procs are so terribly designed where they will trigger when you are already in the middle of another Fire I cast.

Nevertheless, you have the best burst aoe dps in the game as BLM, you've got best burst tied with dragoon, and you've got really useful CC like Freeze and Sleep.

Honestly the only class I feel doesn't bring as much raid utility is Dragoon tbh.

As a blm with about 5 DL + raging strikes I have hit crits as high as 1.8k dmg. Its all about int n crit rate. But the crit rates aren't Consistent. I would bank more on reg dmg. Sometimes ill crit 3 times in 4-5 casts, while other times ill get a crit once over 15 casts.

This. Also my DRG can crit up to 1k, Jump and Full Thrust can pull it off while bursting, most of the time they just hit for high 900s. :(

I find that if I really know a fight (like done it 8+ times), my damage as BLM goes up substantially.

For example, on Demon Wall, the first time I did it, I felt that I was dragging down the group. Now I can put on damage on par with Archers. I'm not sure if it's the same with other classes, but with BLM I feel this is particularly important.

You learn:
1. When to move (saving miscasts)
2. When you can raging strikes(getting better fire cycles)
3. When you should use your procs (a well timed shortly saved proc can give you more time to move)
4. When to swift cast (same as 3 but on some batters it might be a good idea to save swiftcast for flares/fire 3s to get into cycle earlier)
5. When to flare/convert or just flare (you never want to get caught with your pants down w/o mana, but flare does do tons of damage)
6. When you have to unload everything because a break is coming up
7. When you're going to be interrupted because of unavoidable AOE (use a proc or sure cast)
8. When to kite/scathe or ice in mana regen cycle.

Plus probably a lot more. When I'm going in without actual battle experience, I feel like I'm doing about 60-70% of my full damage most of the time.

blms do more damage depending on which boss...if its something like titan you should always have the lead on dmg.

but in turn 1 coils for example i have seen blm in top. dont let the QQ army misslead you.

Tonight on Garuda, I can't wait until I get my BLM Relic Weapon ^.^

My BLM does insane dmg, but most ppl I see doing silly rotations w/o firestarter and DoTs, Scathe is not something to ignore


My Scathe proc Crits are around 1k, and I can weave those in when jumping, so really there's a lot of possibilites. RNG is in effect for Thundercloud/Firestarter, but when the luck is with you omg it's crazy.




One thing I see A LOT of people ignore, is Flare's AoE potential,
In speed run tonight I hit a group of 6 mobs all for 1.2k~1.5k Dmg, so yeah 7k dmg+ in one spell

I'm also really good now at timing Flare for Garuda's Feathers, I can one shot all the feathers with Raging Strikes right as they pop ^.^
