It's obviously a blanket ban that that 1% of legitimate players who have made millions legitimately fall under. There will always be that crazy motherfucker who does make 8 figures legit, but the fact is, when 99% of the rest of the population is nowhere close, it's safe to say that by throwing out a blanket ban for people over a certain amount of Gil, you're going to ban more bots/gold farmers than legit players.
If these people have not used gold sellers or whatever, then they will get their account back it's simple.
But how long will these people have to wait to get their account back?
Weekend is huge for sales ;(
And when that 1% is almost all the server level 50 crafters.....uh, yeah no melds folks. Cause like, all your crafters got bansd for being too rich.
There's typically more to these stories than meets the eye, though because many players would sooner brand Square-Enix as overzealous instead of admitting that their friends may have been banned legitimately then things can get pretty awkward and confusing.
Look, the reality is that there were a lot of legitimate players who were banned. I know there are some that are claiming to be legit and probably aren't, but the chances of this many people crying out and ALL of them are lying is significantly low. Sitting here and saying "well, blanket bans were necessary because it eliminated a lot of the illegitimate players" is a crappy answer from someone who isn't actually affected by what happened. Imagine if you had put in the time and effort to get a craft to 50, get the required extra abilities to reliably HQ things, farm mats or sell enough smaller stuff to make enough to buy the mats, craft and HQ the gear, sell a bunch of it, make a profit, and then get banned for doing absolutely nothing wrong. You think you'd be angry? I suspect you would.
(1/2)
(2/2 why did I have a character limit seriously?)
I'm not necessarily disagreeing on the whole here, I really would like to clear my blacklist at this point in time (over 70 people so far), but really, a lot of legit players got banned solely for having a lot of money, while the gilsellers are STILL spamming right now. What SE did was not necessarily wrong, but it was most definitely VERY lazy. Instead of putting in the effort to look at individual accounts, especially ones that are clearly suspect (oh look, this account has a ton of cash and a bunch of characters named Kjasdfkejladfj Laksdjflkdf, maybe they are RMT), they just blanket banned and hope that people won't be too mad. I suspect some people are going to drop subscriptions as a result of this, because really, after the shaky launch, lack of effort to remove RMT (the NA/EU GM team consists of like 6 people, according to the credits), and now a blanket ban of people solely for having learned how to profit, who can blame them?
How do you get the chances of everyone crying out to be significantly low? If someone buys gil and gets banned they're not gonna sit and think 'oh I'm banned now because I breached the ToS on purpose'. They're gonna think that they want to carry on playing especially because they've spent extra money on it so they're gonna come here and lie through their teeth in order to get their account back. Gilselling will never cease until gilbuying does.
Of course it won't. The gil sellers exist solely because there are people out there willing to buy. As annoying as it is, the people who buy gil aren't really going to admit that they do, nor are they really going to stop. It just sucks that THEIR actions combined with the fact that gil sellers are not above compromising accounts to reap the rewards are having a direct effect on the legitimate players.
