Useing too much MP?
I often notice in dungeons I'm useing too much MP. I'm a White Mage, and I abuse the crap out of Freecure, but if its a long fight or a boss battle, I'm often tank'd out before the boss is dead and have to resort to Ether or waiting for my MP. I always try to keep the tank/party above 75% HP, because normally if they get hit with a critcal AOE they die otherwise. Any remedy for this? I could use the help. After all, once a mage runs out of MP they are kinda screwed.

I forget what level you get the ability, but Shroud of Saints will solve many problems over the course of long fights. Not only will you dump half your aggro, but you'll get about half your max MP back over the duration of the refresh.

MP management is the biggest battle for WHMs. Part of the responsibility comes with making the choice of who lives and who dies. It's up to everyone to avoid AoEs when possible, and if DDs are making no effort to do so, you are going to find yourself taxed. As a healer, your main priority is to the tank. That doesn't mean you should just let everyone else die, but what it does mean is that you have to be constantly assessing the situation. If the party is taking too much avoidable damage, or your MP reserves are running low (pot and shroud on cool down), then you might have to let one of the DDs die to alleviate this stress.
Also be sure you're not over healing and wasting MP that way. If a simple regen is enough to keep a party member alive while another is taking some big hits, drop that regen and change focus to the more pressing matter. If your tank isn't taking a ton of damage then you can use regen and just stand there regenerating MP while the fight is calmer.

There's a few factors:
- Your gear isn't up to par for the content you're attempting, thus your stats are lower and your cures will be more inefficient.
- Your tank isn't geared well, thus is going to get hit like a truck and will require more heals.
- You simply overcure too much, wasting MP.
Above all else make sure your weapon stays up to date, as that's the item that has the most effect on how much your cures will do. The more your cures will do, the less often you'll have to do it and that'll save your MP.

I had this problem a couple times during that level range as well. Universally, it was because either people were taking too much avoidable damage, or the DPS was having issues.
It was not always their fault - I synced to 32 for Braflox two days ago, and ran out of mana because our DPS were both casters and had to run around too much to dps efficiently.
Once you get SoS, your mana problems disappear.

Mana problems don't disappear, but it helps a lot.

I had problems healing in AK, my FC members that I was running with gave me some good advice, one being use SoS everytime it comes up during a boss fight, 2nd use regen as much as possible as well, on top of Medica II and it gives you a few moments of respite.

the above, and also, if the fight drags on for waaaaaaaaaay too long, it will burn u out too.
try to:
1. use shroud of saint when ur mp drops below the 80 percent mark, u it coolsdown when u r at around 30 percent
2. use stoneskin often. i remember relying almost solely on stoneskin from early to late 40s
3. use regen. not many mobs hit extremely hard from what i remember.
4. most importantly, understand the mechanics of the fight. sometimes, many times, a regen is all u need because the same person wont get hit twice and/or you know nothing fatal is coming anytime soon.

Stoneskin can be a very useful tool and extremely efficient on the high health war tanks, and even good for pally's but I feel a little less efficient. I seemed to struggle a little bit in the 3 levels prior to getting SoS, and then got a little nervous right before you get its traited upgrade that doubles the mana regen potency.
Like the others mentioned, regen is your friend, melee dps typically will take constant damage, or ranged take some moderate hits of 30% or better use a regen, it becomes extremely efficient and does a good job. Sometimes I will regen the target, and stay attentive to them as much as the tank ready to switch over for a fast cure II if I see that player get hit again, but typically the regen heals them to full.

There's only a few tips I can think of that might help you:
1) Adding to DPS is slow and mana costly, so you may have to really think about where and when you want to do it
2) Abuse Esuna and don't heal DPS right away
3) Talk to your party! Get one of them to help with ghetto cures when you start to struggle on certain fights. After DPS gets Esuna'd...let your help top these guys off
4) If no one wants to help you, try anyway. You never know just how much you've learned since last attempt.
5) Reattempting fights only works as long as somone is learning something...sometimes it's best to just walk away if nothing is working.
6) Overhealing is a mana sink & healing generates hate regardless how much of it gets used, so only do it when your party gets the biggest benefit.
7) Free cures are just that. Only pass these up when the hate gained outweighs the benefit of a manaless cure.
