When the camera system is set to "default mode" the character cannot be moved backwards at the running speed, creating huge issues when it's necessary to avoid specific enemy moves.
A possible alternative to the current backward walk, is to make the character turn by 180° and run in the opposite direction the camera is facing without changing the camera position. This would make the "default mode" an usable option.
Of course this is valid for both PC and PS3.

May I ask what's preventing you from using Legacy mode Camera?
Because that mode does exactly... what you said.
Walking backwards has it's advantages, because if you take a hit from back you will not block an attack, and you take more damage.
(or so I heard)
so certain people may prefer not to reverse themselves when going away from an enemy. -
