Heavy Darksteel (tank) gear too cheap to craft

The 2-star crafted tanking set is too cheap to craft compared to other sets. The tank set has two items that count as two pieces of gear; the Heavy Darksteel Armor counts as both Helm and Chest slots and the Heavy Darksteel Flanchard counts as both Legs and Feet slots. Both of these items only require one Darksteel Ingot to make, which needs 9 Coke, one the 125 Tomestone of Philosophy materials.

Meanwhile, there are pieces in other sets that require 18 Tomestone materials to make just one piece (Darksteel Mitt Gauntlets and Gryphonskin Kecks just to name two) in addition to still needing more Tomestone materials because other sets don't get the two-for-one item deals the tank set does. So even if the Heavy Darksteel pieces I mentioned were changed to require 18 Tomestone materials each the tank set would still be cheaper to make than other sets.

To really even things out both two-for-one items should require 18 Tomestone materials to make since they cover two slots of gear and one of the tanking set items should require an additional 9 Tomestone materials since every other set has an item that requires 9 extra to make just one piece.

That's all I got. Valid points. The Darklight equivalent costs double, as you would expect, so it's odd that these do not.

So lets try to make the problem worse shall we?

Better Idea would be to put the coke cost back down to 2 like it started as in ARR before they make it take 2 ingots. Not going to lie tho, both those pieces should take more materials IF they undo the damage they did to the base material cost first. The system needed balancing and neither your idea nor theirs would balance anything. The only thing that will happen is that Heavy darksteel armor and heavy darksteel flanchard join the "unviable to craft" club.

I'm talking about an entirely different problem than you are. The number of Tome materials needed to craft gear may be too high but that doesn't change the fact that tanks still have a large advantage crafting gear compared to other classes that should be balanced out. If you want to make a thread saying the number of materials for crafting is now too high, fine, more power to you. I even agree with you. But please don't come into my thread about a different issue and try to derail my thread because you're looking for another soapbox to stand on.

And one being lower is not the problem. The rest being too high is the problem, and what you desire is that they escalate the problem by making the only 2 pieces that cost the proper amount also cost too much.

Whether you agree with me or not, this is not the solution. This idea has as little thought put into it as their "balance"

They should lower the cost of other items.

I didn't have this at the front of the OP in my thread like I should have, but THIS is a real balancing solution with some extra things added, with thought.

Change the base recipe of the mats for some to require 2 and some to require 3.

Metals (darksteel ingot, rosegold ingot, flawless astral eye): 3 coke or whatever the particular mat uses
Leather and cloth:2
Alchemy products: 2

Adjust the required materials of items that require only 1 item.

Heavy darksteel armor: add one darksteel ingot, one rose gold ingot, and one hard hypogryph leather. Same with legs.

heavy darksteel gauntlets add one rose gold ingot.

Vanya robes add one more Vanya silk and one rose gold ingot.

Vanya hats one hard hypogryph leather

Do similar for other items of the same slot.

Pants and belts are fine.

Then reduce the cost of coke etc to 100 tomes.

Doing some simple math with this change, heavy darksteel armor does not make any significant change in price, only - 25 tomes, but now everything else drops down to not only be fair in how much you have to grind, but also more difficult to craft for most pieces. Most pieces will also require more than one crafter class geared enough to mats to make it.

Another possible way is to think back to the beginning of 1.0 and how crafts were then. They actually had WAY more parts and were more tedious to make than even these. Instead of simply adding an extra mat, they could make a new part for that mat instead. EX:
Heavy Darksteel Armor
1 Darksteel breastplate = 1 darksteel ingot + 1 darksteel plate
1 Darksteel backplate = 1 darksteel ingot + 1 darksteel plates
1 Hypogryph leather padding = 1 hard hyppogryph leather + 2 twinthread
1 rosegold engravings = 1 rosegold ingot + 2 rosegold nugget



You don't get balance by ninja changing the cost of everything by the same amount. That is what they did and that is why the system is currently jacked. If they do anything, they need to do this.
