It's funny.
Everyone complained in FFXI about Abyssea, about how it let you get to 99 so fast, you didn't know how to do your job. You could get there without having to know.
Now, in XIV, they do the exact same thing, making 1-50 a cake walk, where you don't need to learn how to play your class in the least. Then you've got to go do end-game content and "learn" and that's why the content is so hard, because from 1-50, you've not had to actually learn your class, it isn't required.
1-50 should contain portions where you've got to learn your class. The Dungeons done during the story to 1-50 don't help either, they don't require learning your class either.
Basically, you only learn your classic once you hit 50, and do some end-game dungeons. Then you got people, who were in the same situation, complaining about new people in such a situation.
It's funny. Abyssea is credited as killing FFXI, and FFXIV 2.0 is like Abyssea the MMORPG in terms of leveling, and the same people who bitched about Abyssea in FFXI, are now creaming themselves all over 2.0 and it's 1-50 tutorial and how you're supposed to learn your class at 50, instead of while leveling. It's a complete flip.
-
So making tutorial super hard is ok for new players?
-
How is doing Cutter's Cry, The Stone Vigil, Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale not making you learn your class? It will push the tank and healer to do their work or the group will fail. As for DPS, they learn "how to play" by just killing stuff from 1-50 anyways.
All players also get to experience moving out of danger, paying attention to what boss skills are being used, different boss mechanics and overall chaos.
Unless a player levels from 1-50 with FATEs alone, I disagree with you.
-
People CAN push to 50 fast. Is it a cakewalk? No, not even close. The leveling process is multifaceted, and only the effective FATE grinding experience process is a "cakewalk" because your contribution in a group means diddly if other people are all doing it for you. But when you're solo, or duoing, and trying to level as you progress your gearing crafting class, a gathering class to fuel that, and enjoy SOME of the story, then it does take a while. It's not a cakewalk, it's a stroll. A meander down leveling lane. It took me two weeks to get to 50, and that's longer than it takes in WoW by far, given how "streamlined" the quest process is. You can hit cap in TERA in mere days.
-
Two weeks is still so short. One month would've been the minimum I'd have liked. Ah well.

i believe the philosophy of the games are different, and im under the impression that 14 is meant to be a endgame-centric game as opposed to old 11 where it was a lvl-ing centric game.
tbh i have no problem with people who take time to learn their roles, and they are entitled to since they are paying for it, and it is a game for god's sake. the only problem i have, however, is the player's attitude. being obnoxious, unwilling to learn and a total spoilsports is what i deem unbearable - and it not only pertains to those who dont know their jobs at 50, but also those who are good at what they do but are just too unforgiving and harsh.
-
I learned how to do my class by doing story and class quests. If I died more then once before going back in I'd Google the fight. I only ran Fates as very last resort. Was it a cake walk? No. Because I did have to learn different ways to do different quests as sleep only lasts so long. And I'm sorry but some NPCs that "help" in battles are really just plain stupid. NPC that I won't say name of during a story quest woke up every single mob I had just cast sleep on. He then died because omg he woke them all up. Ugggg duty failed. So had to sleep then heal him asap lol

IMHO
i didnt found anything at endgame what i didnt met during leveling, every single mechanic what did you met at Pretorium, AK was introduced before (dungeon or main story). The option of opt-out from leveling throught dungeons its not bad, it only make you spend few seconds on "describe how to kill this boss" before pull..
Becouse ENG isnt my native language I make few macros where i explain what to do and how to do on every single boss ,its so much faster and it makes wonders

It is not that Abyssea is considered bad in itself, but that it was a 180 on the previous content. Old players that played it for years before Abyssea dislike it because it invalidated all their "hard work". It's more of a selfish "Why should he get to max level so quickly, when I needed 2 years to max my first job? Why should he get gear so easily, when I had to slave away for weeks for 1 piece of gear?". It wasn't really even made for the old players but for new - new players would give up quickly before it because they had no chance of catching up.
You don't have that here. It's a new game and leveling doesn't take a year - it never did, so no reason to be jelous or angry. Also long grindy leveling process =/= hard game.
As for learning your class, class quests do teach you that. Too bad people don't really bother to read what and why they need to do. You have a bunch of dungeons til 50 where you need to learn your role. Ever did Stone vigil or Brayflox with a tank who didn't know his role or a healer that would sit on his hands? Exactly. The game teaches you but some players don't want to learn.

I'm sorry but this doesn't even compare to how much Aby fucked leveling in XI. At least in this game people are learning how to handle their role in a party through dungeons and guildhests. In XI Aby all you do is take your level 30 character back and forth between the page and the group until you hit 99.
EDIT: And to the person above; yeah, no. Abyssea is bad, because it's existence invalidated the entire mid level game. You hit 30 then fly to 70-99. The worst part is, there's almost nothing involved in doing such. Running back and forth is without ever having to hit attack or open your spells is not even gameplay. You can call it mechanic abuse, but it's been going on years now unfixed.
