do you pay for each character?

If I had 8 characters made on a server, do I pay additional for each one? My sub fees won't kick in for another week, and I certainly don't want to pay for useless character slots since we can't trade between them.

You do not pay for how many characters you create. However, one account can only have eight characters on a server, forty characters total; the system won't let you create more than that. If you want more than that, you'll need a second account (which means buying a second copy and paying a second subscription fee).

You pay a sub 10-15$/£ etc and that's it you can have as many char you want.

Thanks for confirming. I just thought about it recently because in FFXI you paid for each additional character per server, so that got me to thinking about it.

They used to have that in 1.0, but with ARR they've simplified it so you can either pay the industry standard subscription fee and get 8 slots per world or pay a little less if just need/want 1 slot per world (entry level subscription option).
